Man, I wish you guys could come to SDCC this year and have some drinks with me and Symbiote, lol. I really don't get upset over these things, but I do like to shoot the shit with everyone about it. I will match the intensity of someone else's argument/discussion because I find it fun but otherwise I love these threads and enjoy the majority of the fans discussions on here.

Part of the fun reading comics for me is being able to bitch/moan/complain or hype/praise/commend about them with you guys.

bmorr 06-08-2012 01:24 PM

i just wish we could dust off the general marvel discussion thread so we can talk about all comics that have come out in every week. As long as there's enough comics readers on this site, itll make for interesting discussion.

Completely agree. I think with prices going up, continuity reboots and overall writing quality these days, more and more fans are staying away from monthly pulls and just waiting out the collected HC/TPB instead. That's completely understandable to me, but also means less discussion during the heat of a story and less participation from those who don't want spoilers.

So I picked up #5 today. I also managed to get a avx: VS #1 reprint. Damn marvel skimped and didnt have free digital copies with it. Oh well. Im really loving these avx: vs comics. As far as#5 goes, I really didnt see that ending coming. I think If wolvie got powers too it would have made for an interesting twist. I guess the phoenix really is coming for a reason. I really liked hopes narrative through it all, all the stuff she said was a really nice touch. Those first couple of panels where shes telling logan to kill her were pretty awesome as well. I thought #5 was great, I cant wait to see more.

I'm that way. I can't afford to read everything that might be interesting and TPB is a much cheaper and easier way to do it. Only book I buy regularly is X-Force but I even sold most of the issues I had not too long ago.

Yeah I'm slowly but surely straying away from print for the same reason. What's more is that collected stories are almost 50% cheaper on digital apps then they are in stores, in some cases and they don't take up shelf or storage space. Hell, 2 days ago Marvel had Uncanny X-Force 1-18 on sale for $.99 per issue. With deals like that its tough not to see myself going full digital in the future to save money and space.

I can see where you are coming from, but MOST readers prefer to have the book in hand...

I am on the fence, as I had the digi sub last year (because it came with XFAA), and I dont really have a preference, the digital stuff is nice because you are right doesnt take up space...

But its always nice to have the book in your hands, and flip through the pages....

jaybird7072 06-10-2012 08:03 PM

i like both books and digi.. only get the ones i want on paper back and the rest is digi :). i like that i can read my comics and not have to worry about having a light on ...

I'm part of that MOST category. I have a huge Hard Cover/TPB collection. If I grow it any further without selling off some stuff, I'm going to have to invest in some additional storage space. And then at that point, why bother having the physical copies if they're just going to be locked away, is my logic? I like having access to my current bookshelf to pick up one of my favorite stories and flip to a favorite scene to either read or recreate with my MU figure display or to share with a friend.

however...

^this is currently me right now. Even the recent prints that I have been buying, I just got them because they now come with a free digital copy so I figured why not. I actually read the stories digitally though once I redeemed them.

I never want print to stop. It's bad for the business in general I think and I like the option to buy print for those issues or stories that I just need to own a physical copy of. I can see majority of my future issues purchased digitally though since that is my preferred method of reading on the go, which I seem to do often.

Anyway...So where the hell is Cable in all of this? I didn't read X-Sanction (I'm a Loeb hater, pity me, lol) but my understanding is that he's supposed to be all healed up of his techno organic virus now? When the hell is he going to play his part, I wonder?

Ya I'm old school I like the physical copy in my hand, but yes it does save space going digital and even collecting for resale value has gone down a lot now...so it's like hmm...

bmorr 06-11-2012 02:02 PM

i cant read a comic from a computer screen. i refuse to.

Greenskar 06-11-2012 03:13 PM

Soon...back to my last comment. Seriously, what the hell happened to Cable?

bmorr 06-11-2012 04:50 PM

I have no idea. But, he is back to normal, without the techno - organic virus. Things will get screwed up if he ends up killing cyclops and ending his own existence.

Just saw the cover to AvX #11 and, while covers are never fully indicative of what actually will happen, it was Cyclops vs Emma Frost in their Phoenix forms. So apparently AvX might revert back to Schism part 2 if that cover was to be taken seriously, lol.

bmorr 06-11-2012 05:47 PM

yeah covers are terrible at showing whats inside, its all to entice you on buying the comic

not quite sure how that would end his existance Nathan Christopher Summers was born circa X-men 200 and sent to the future in X-factor 66(?) so the timeline would have diverged already to create Cable's timeline and it wouldn't be anything more than patricide

bmorr 06-11-2012 06:36 PM

the more you know.

shortysben 06-13-2012 08:07 PM

Gotta say I really like the the Avengers #27 book that came out today...

bmorr 06-13-2012 08:24 PM

im gonna have to avoid this thread like a plague until i get back from vacation lol.

bmorr 06-20-2012 02:57 PM

hey guys big week for tie-ins this week regarding AvX.

Avengers Academy #32
Avengers Vs. X-Men #6
New Avengers #27
Secret Avengers #28
Uncanny X-Men #14

I need to address and issue ive been having regarding continuity when it comes to the Kree side of things. In Avengers #27, he just got kicked off the team and left behind platoon style to fend for himself, where in Secret Avengers #28 this never happens. WTF, its two completly different stories. Captain Marvel doesnt even freakin exist in the Avengers Tie-in. Like, what the hell am I supposed to follow as true? Fucking Bendis....

Greenskar 06-20-2012 06:17 PM

Ok, while the first act of AvX (#0-5 specifically) main storylines left much to be desired and seemed like nothing more than a gimmick to pit heroes against each other, act 2 or issue #6 of AvX starts much stronger for me.

The Phoenix 5 have come into there own and have changed the world for the better it would seem. Where the was hunger there are now feasts, the world has free unlimited energy (in your face, Stark!), water is fresh and plentiful and Utopia is huge now. They've even abolished war against human and mutant alike. So what is there left to bitch about? Well everyone still remembers with the Phoenix, everything goes dark eventually so Avengers are searching for contingencies in case that happens while Beast is starting to believe the Avengers are just paranoid because from his perspective the world is now a better place to live in thanks to the Phoenix 5 and yet the Avengers are still looking for ways to stop them.

Cyclops has a conversation with Hope about how she's not a prisoner and can go wherever and do whatever she wants, however, she still hears the Phoenix calling to here. He offers the Phoenix power to her and she accepts...only for Cyke to deny it to her because she rejected it the first time and now he doesn't see her as worthy. He said she's a kid with no experience and asked her if she thought she could change the world like he just did given the power? As he walked away she yelled that she can still here it, the Phoenix wants to burn brighter and hotter, that what he's done wasn't enough.

There is some great artwork involving Namor ridding the sea of Warships, Sentinels being destroyed by Emma's will and nuclear warheads being gathered by colossus to be destroyed permanently. PoTUS is still not convinced the X-men have any accountability and asks Cap, Tony and T'Challa to find a way to stop them.

Meanwhile it is revealed in the mystical city of K'un Lun that a former red haired Iron Fist defeated the Phoenix. Two equally charged souls cancelled each other out (Dragon and Phoenix). The Thunderer is told the Iron Fist is needed to stop the threat (potential status quo change for Iron Fist?) The issue ends with Scarlet witch having a vision of the Avengers being incinerated by the Phoenix.

All in all I was satisfied with this issue and i haven't even read the free infinite comic yet.

shortysben 06-20-2012 06:22 PM

yeah things seem to be interesting for sure, but I am still not convinced...

panel of the week goes to....(spoiler)

Doom fighting megalodon sharks in the beginning of man! that was freaking intense...should I start a dark avengers thread?

Exodus 06-20-2012 06:23 PM

Cool can't wait to pick it up.
