Does anyone want my extra Amazon Spidey pack?
|
For anyone who didn't get the Homecoming Spidey/Vulture or Spidey/Shocker two packs, they're turning up in The Entertainer - not bad value for the £12.50 they're asking for them.

The Universe is expanding.... (pics to follow in next post)
I wanted to do a batch of just "good guys" for a change, so I went looking for some characters that aren't done too often and that filled a couple of holes in my collection at the same time. Even though this batch was full of problems and setbacks, the end results are pretty good, IMO. I picked up the Enchantress/Executioner 2-pack. I had to fix the awful eyes on Enchantress of course, and glued the skirt in place. I also lightened her hair so that it actually looks blonde now and not sand colored. Ironically enough, after fixing the bad eye it made me realize that the other eye was off too. It just looked better in comparison to the one they practically painted on the side of her face. Anyway, I repainted both eyes so she no longer looks like she should have had those coke bottle thick glasses as a kid. Annoying and could have been worse, but I shouldn't have had to do it at all. And I have a feeling that I'm not done messing with this figure yet. Executioner goes straight to storage. I like mine better. Picked up the Amazon exclusive Sinister Six set with it being dirt cheap. I couldn't justify spending $80 since I really only wanted three figures from the set: Kraven, Sandman & a fixed up Mysterio. So I only took those out and left the rest in the package. I also got a Groot/Rocket 2-pack. Unfortunately none at my local Five Below, so I got these off Amazon because I really wanted an in uniform Groot. I have the EE exclusive one, but it's huge and I'm not sculpting a uniform on it. No way! So since I'm in the red trim Guardians camp I painted up Groot to add to the team and will dump Rocket somewhere. Lastly picked up the comic style v1 Iron-Man - been passing on this figure for a while now as I just didn't need it. It finally dropped to a 'too low to pass' price so I got it, and into storage it'll go. In comic news I've been reading a bunch of scans lately. Everything from Siege (was really good along with all the Thor issues) to Spider-Verse (just finished this. Enjoyable. Makes all those alt-Spider-Man customs make sense now). Vostok, Destiny and Peregrin are there because they needed paint fixes/touchups. Sunfire needed a factory error-paint fix and some over spray removal. Elsa is there because when I made her I forgot to attach her head so it wouldn't fall off. Not sure how I missed that before, but it's fixed now. So, anyway, onto the rest... In Groot's branches are two Wasp's for the collection. They're not full on customs so just to mention them briefly: the white and blue outfit is from the "Darker than Scarlet" storyline when she was with the West Coast Avengers and the yellow and black is for her outfit when she was leading the Avengers during the "Siege of Avengers Mansion". I've been using the Wasp body a lot lately so buying them gives me extra mini-wasps. So, every time I get an extra I'm painting it up to match one of her outfits - only the important ones. Then there is Kang's Time Chair that I picked up from Pilkster. For those of you that were on the fence but didn't get one, you missed out. The quality is very good and after some sanding, assembling and painting I had a nice chair. But something was missing...so I went back to work and made a "floating" control panel to attach to the chair. I did have to make a hole in the chair for the peg to slide into, but it's in a very inconspicuous spot. I've got more painting to do on it, but it's done enough for the picture. Moira MacTaggert - Moira was a big player back in those early X-Men issues I was reading back during the last batch. She was so vital then (and of course going forward) that I just had to get the character into figure form. I went with her lab tech design (Uncanny X-Men #125) and specifically went out and bought two new colors just for this figure. Other than the sculpting she was really easy to make. The sculpting wasn't difficult, I just didn't want to do it. Her hair design is functional on a page, but not so much in the real world. Like Rogue's Flock of Seagulls type hairstyle from the 80s. But, I sculpted it anyway. The bangs look a smidge too big to me, but, I'm ok with that since I'm not sculpting her ridiculous hair over again. I went with the Scarlet Witch spell casting hands since I figured if I had the figure in a diorama it'd be a Danger Room/Muir Island lab dio and she'd be sitting at a computer terminal, and these hands fit best for looking like they'd be typing. Now that I have her made I'm going to be keeping my eyes open for a soft goods lab coat I can pair with the figure. Brother Voodoo - For years I had no idea that Brother Voodoo was a heroic character. I always thought he was an evil witch doctor counterpart to Dr. Strange. He debuted before my comic time and showed up again after. I only found out he was a hero upon stumbling on him during my read thru of the New Avengers series when the Eye chose him. Prior to that I've never read a comic that had the character in it at all - not even a name drop. I had an extra reaper body so this figure has no areas of paint rub to worry about, except on the lower right arm I had to swap in, but I'm not at all concerned about rubbing/chipping there. His paint scheme is ridiculously basic so I put more time into him to get an accurate design for the art piece I chose. I almost regret this because the amount of sculpting I had to do on this guy was pretty insane! All the beads and skulls were bad enough, but sculpting his dreads was a chore and a half. And then I had non-stop cape & bead issues. And then I had to sculpt the staff and add the straps to that! I'm really underselling how much of a royal pain in the ass this guy was to make. This is another figure suffering from bad QC in the neck peg area. It's completely fubar but, again, didn't discover that until well into the custom so there was no chance I was going to start over or try to effect an after the fact repair job. Sucks, but what can you do? All-in-all glad to have the character added to the fold. There's only one Sorcerer Supreme in my collection and that's Dr. Strange, however, if I feel like it later, making a new head and cape for this guy to have him be the Sorcerer Supreme is an easy task to accomplish. Miss Marvel (Sharon Ventura) - I don't know anything about Sharon Ventura as Ms. Marvel at all. Way before my time. But when looking up some art for Ms. Marvel (Danvers) this outfit popped up so I took a close look at a character I'd seen here and there but was never really exposed to. Long story short, I decided to make one as I didn't have a Sharon Ventura character in my collection in any fashion. Design wise she was really easy to make. However, being a Red She-Hulk she took a full repaint which was time consuming. Came out well and I only had to add the sash with some flexible straps and she's good to go. Now that I have her I don't really know what to do with her. I guess I'll just stick her into a random spot on the hero shelf for now but maybe I'll stick her in with the FF. Although, unless I make a She-Thing figure - when she got hit with cosmic rays - this one doesn't quite fit with the FF. Hmm, She-Thing...now that sounds like an interesting custom to take on. Meggan - I decided to look into a few small teams recently and see what wasn't complete; X-Force, Inhumans, original New Warriors, etc. There's a glut of them but I wanted to focus on the mutants and looking at my display noticed I had most of the original Excalibur team set up together already. At that point I wanted to finish the team which meant making more female figures since Captain Britain, a version of Kitty Pryde and Nightcrawler already exist from Hasbro. Meggan was up first. I really liked her original green outfit design and it was pretty fun to paint. I used a Jim Lee style art design from one of the card series he did. Also repainted her face since Hasbro gave the original head a really lazy eye. Other than the paint work I had to sculpt her ridiculous hair style. That sucked! This lady was a sculpting nightmare. By volume I used more sculpt on her hair than I have on the last 20 figures I've put sculpt on combined! Now I'm even more glad I didn't make a comic style ponytail for Elsa. Once more, what works/looks cool in art doesn't necessarily translate to a workable "real world" design. But, that's what I enjoy the most about the customizing aspect of this hobby, making the hard-to-do into reality. So, she's done and I'm happy with her. Now I just need to make an accurate Kitty Pryde/Shadow Cat from this period in her history and a Captain Britain in his first Excalibur costume. The Hasbro figs are useable stand ins until I do. Rachel - Rachel is an interesting character but her backstory has been changed so many times I have no clue what era or alternate reality or whatever she's supposed to be from anymore. But I wanted to knock out the original Excalibur members and she had to be done. That said, this was one aggravating custom. At one point I accidentally sliced her left hand completely off as part of a paint mishap (don't ask). Normally something like that wouldn't bother me too much, but in this instance, since the female parts are so small, I had to get the drill to get the damn peg out. Everything else just jammed the damn thing further up into the forearm. After five annoying minutes I got the last of the peg out and could put the replacement hand in. Luckily I had a second one since I really wanted to use the open hand that came with the Wasp body. It just works well for my vision of Rachel. After fixing that stupidity I eventually had to work on her heads (all from Rogue). The normal head wasn't too bad, but after removing the mohawk I had to fill in the rest and then add sculpt and give her an accurate hairstyle. So far sculpting short hair has been harder than sculpting long hair. For the Phoenix powered head I had to again chop up the mohawk then sculpt up her flaming hairdo. Finally I had to sculpt some spikes onto the figure. They're bigger than I intended, but there was no good way to make them as small as I wanted on a figure this size and still have them be viable, so I did what I could. All in all, she came out well. I don't intend to make any more Rachels at this point. Maybe I'll make one of her modern X-Men outfits in time, but that wouldn't be anytime soon since I'm generally not a fan of that period in X-Men history. Daimon Hellstrom - I don't know much about Hellstrom as a character. I'm vaguely familiar with his classic outfit, but never read anything with him in it, and frankly his older outfits are pretty bland. So, I went with his modern art design from his appearances in the New Avengers series where he had his pants tucked into boots with straps and buckles on them. Thought it was an interesting look and design. I used the Namor base for this guy but didn't feel like changing out the waist piece. So that meant I had to sculpt over the scaly trunks and make them into a pants design. So, not only did that mean completely covering the scales, but I had to sculpt four pockets (fronts and backs) and also a zipper portion. In addition to that, I cut off Namor's widows peak and sculpted up the hair a bit including adding the two longer tendrils. You know, his 'devil' horns. Topped him off with the waist chains to complete the modern look. Having him in the collection adds to the heroic mage pool. Still plenty of spell casters to get to though. I added another one in this batch, but I've got at least another four I can think of off the top of my head that I still want to make before I have to go actively looking for any more. Paladin - My first exposure to Paladin came many years ago during the same Captain America arc that exposed me to Superia and Diamondback. Since it's been so long since I've read those issues I don't remember what Paladin was doing on the ship with Cap but I've always remembered his pretty interesting design and color scheme. I hadn't planned to make this guy now, but with all the issues this batch was giving me I just decided to make him now and hope he went better than some of the others. Once I got going Paladin came together pretty easily if not exactly quickly. Paladin has one of those designs that, while they might look good on paper, don't translate as well in 3-D. So I had some work to do when it came to this guy. For example; I could have sculpted his chest and shoulder armor onto the torso just like the art design, however, in doing that I'd have had to sacrifice the entire ROM that the torso has and that I won't do. So instead I made the design in a more practical sense. I sculpted the padding on the forearms, the shoulder pads and along the chest plate - parts of it are off but couldn't fix them without destroying the entire thing. I wanted his armor to be removable (incase I found a workable way to sculpt the armor directly onto the figure later) and that worked best with sculpt on a Marauder vest. Finding a good head was it's own challenge. I used a Hawkeye head because the 'smirk' is perfect for Paladin. After picking the head I had to do even more sculpting (and cutting and sanding) to get the look right. Some weapons (pair of Tech-9's and a gun suitable for his stun pistol which is holstered) and pouches from Marauder were added to complete him. For a figure I didn't have planned for this batch, he came out really nice. I'm actually really glad to have this Merc off the list. He'll fit in nicely along with Silver Sable on the shelf. Blue Shield - I don't recall what I was reading that brought me to a wiki page about this guy, but talk about obscure characters. Blue Shield is as obscure as they come. He debuted in 1981 in a Dazzler book no less and, according to the wiki, has popped up from time to time over the years. I vaguely remember his brief appearance during the Initiative but I had no idea who the character was supposed to be and he showed up so briefly that he was instantly forgotten. But I digress...After rediscovering the character it gave me a chance to finally add a member of Project Pegasus to my collection, thus I went with his more classic look. Thankfully this guy didn't need any sculpt work so it was a simple, very simple, paint job. To me he comes across as a poor man's version of DC's Guardian. He'll go up on the SHIELD shelf as in my Marvel Universe SHIELD encompasses Project Pegasus along with various other facilities like the Vault in addition to SWORD and ARMOR. |

Hmm...not sure why some of the art is cropped. I'll see if I can get those to show up later. There's a few more pics on flikr that I didn't post here. You can click any image to get to the flikr album.

Great as always, but that Brother Voodoo is next level.

CREATOR OUT!!!!!!! |
Thanks guys. Don't have a plan to make Kingpin yet as I can't get the parts choice right
The torso for blade I bought a long time ago from slayer design studio ( now named Angel forge) The blade head is from glassman customs The daredevil head is mu ironfist with the eyes sculpted over. The punisher head is a shrunken a bald Shane from walking dead, I sculpted the hair. The recipe is mostly rise of Cobra figures (breaker arms, hawk torso with crotch painted, snake eyes legs and mu ironfist head with eyes sculpted over) |
