I know we all love SW but, sometimes we have to keep in mind that to some of these people that were involved, it is just a job to them...a means to an end. And thats kind of the impression I get from Ford.

I've never once seen him be appreciative. And honestly, nobody likes actor's who just see their job as a "means to an end". That's usually when phoning it in happens, and their lack of passion is felt. If it was some low budget indie film sure, but this is Star Wars and it means a lot to so many people and he just doesn't really care much. All he wants to do is play Indiana Jones.

lordbest 04-27-2017 07:47 PM

He doesn't see his job as a means to an end, he sees it as a job. He talks about this quite a but. He does the work, he gets paid, his obligation ends there and he is perfectly right.

Well, I disagree.

If he really feels that way he shouldn't have come back at all. Star Wars has a legacy now, compared to when he was cast. There are things you have to be a part of when you sign on, the newcomers understand this. Is it written anywhere? No, but look at the others like Hamill and Fisher, they understand how much it means to people. There's an entire convention around Star Wars.

My rule of thumb is if you're not passionate about it, you shouldn't be involved.

Steve Jobs felt similarly, and would fire people who were really skilled and good at their jobs because they didn't care about Apple's vision.

lordbest 04-27-2017 11:09 PM

You should be grateful he does come back an interact with fans, not upset that he doesn't see Star Wars as anything but what it was to him. He's going above and beyond really, they all do. Some of the others might be more enthusiastic about it and that is their prerogative, not something to punish Ford over.

When Ford signed on there was no Star Wars phenomenon and many people thought the film would fail, you can't hold him to some kind of obligation of ongoing support that he never entered in to just because something he did became extremely popular.

Weapon X 04-27-2017 11:53 PM

"above and beyond" are strong words.

I don't need to be grateful. He came to Celebration once because Carrie died, and he came back to SW to kill his character.

I'm not preaching anything new here, most SW fans know he doesn't really give a shit about the franchise. He doesn't even like his character much.

So I don't see what you're trying to get at here.

Originally, back when they were making RotJ, he wanted Han dead to show that massive galaxy-wide war in space had consequences. I assume vaguely similar reasoning went into why he wanted Han killed in TFA: to give more emotional weight to the story.

I'll break it down for you (and I'm not trying to be a dick about all this):

He gets paid to do a job, act. Sometimes that involves press tours and other promotional activities. Beyond that he has no kind of obligation at all. Anything he does beyond that is going above and beyond.

This and they wanted to kill him off early in the movie to show that no one was safe.

To be honest, I would've been really surprised if Han survived TFA...you have the 2 people who championed for him to die in Jedi(Ford and Kasden) involved with the movie and the one person keeping them from killing him off (Lucas) not involved at all.

Harrison Ford is a crotchety old man who's nothing more than a glorified asshole. We shouldn't even waste the energy we have been talking about him.

305Batman 04-28-2017 09:25 AM

Way to go Hasbro, making R2 one per case, the one figure sought after by collectors who missed it the first time, those who want him on the vintage card and scumbag scalpers of course! Nothing but a sea of Obis,Lukes and Leias! One of my TRUs even had 12 early bird sets!

Ditto. I mean, seriously Hasbro?! I have already found the Luke and Ben now a teeth-grinding amount (more so Luke). Leia in my area has actually been on the less common side because no stores in my area ever got the first (not-good-looking) release so this is really our first shot at Leia. I'm amazed I was able to get Han though. Then like you my TRU also had a number of the Legacy packs, although as I bought one another guy bought two so the Vader figure might push that set more but then it is $40 and Vader is the only actual figure so I could see people hesitating/waiting for it to go down a bit.

Meh, the Figuarts R2 is going to put the Hasbro one to shame anyway.

Huh. I think I see her the most out of them all.

Probably something that will differ from area to area, she is as equally packed as Luke and Ben so it comes down to collectors in the area to determine who among those three will be harder to find.

The 3.75" SA fan poll is up on the Star Wars website

MUfan97 04-28-2017 10:43 PM

Who the heck got YAK FACE on there?

snake5289 04-28-2017 11:37 PM

Was hoping for the Grand Inquisitor but since that's not an option I went with Doctor Aphra.

I got my 6" scale R2!!!
Sadly I was only able to get one through HTS (seriously a limit of 1 R2 which is meant to be a mass retail release per household but I could get 2 of the convention exclusive figure?!) so my brother has to keep hunting.

Does C3PO's elbows not bend?

Nope, but since he can't in the movies I'm fine with it

It's strange, because the design would lead you to believe he could.

Robb 04-29-2017 09:20 AM

If anyone has an extra Luke X-Wing 40th exclusive I have an extra R2D2.

But these aren't the movies, these are toys. They should move. So glad I'm getting the Figuarts now.

No doubt, but I'd rather pay $20 not $50 for him!
