So the above was what I posted in the "in stock" thread (just so you understand my rant), but I HATE scalpers that don't touch MU EVER except the day a variant hits the shelf.. wanted to punch him. SO I think instead I need any and all of your help and knowledge of the rare hot wheels so I can start scalping those right out from under him! Fight fire with fire.. let him know how it feels.

And before anyone says maybe he wanted it, we have spoke many times. They are there every single morning of the week and have said they only collect hot wheels. I let them know I want nothing to do with anything except MU. He knows very little about the line from my experience, but clearly knows a variant when he sees it.. because he was quick to snag and carry that around. I even politely asked if he was definitely going to buy it because I actually don't have either Blastaar and this was the first time I'd seen it. He just said "yep" and walked away to look at the hot wheels. end rant.. moving on..

I hate catching scalpers in the act. It definitely gets your blood boiling.

Nice touch. You did well on the lining on the front.

fosterlager 04-09-2013 09:59 AM

Damned scalpers. You'll have to just get up earlier now if you want to keep finding toys at that store.

DogFashionDisco 04-09-2013 10:04 AM

I checked my local Walmart in case they had new stuff (I would've hooked you up with Blastaar because I only want Prof. X). As soon as I got near the toy aisle I noticed a guy with cut off jean shorts checking the MU and Star Wars stuff so I just left. Sorry man, collecting is a huge hassle in STL now.

uggh, hot wheels collectors, you'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

kylactus 04-09-2013 01:45 PM

uh not to be a dick or condone uh... dickery, but you could just go bend the cards and leave a crease on all the hotwheels every time you go in there. kids arn't hurt, scalper looses incentive. and its easyer than learning the ins and outs of a new product.

bmorr 04-09-2013 01:48 PM

the only time i go in that isle is to look for batman or those tv show cars for myself. I hate every second looking through the racks.

ultraman zoffy 04-09-2013 02:46 PM

So... how exactly are you guys classifying folks as scalpers aside from they got to a figure you wanted before you did? I mean, if you got there first and had the figure in hand, and another collector rolls up, how are you all going to look any different from scalper guy?
Just asking because these rants are looking pretty... unfounded. lol

fosterlager 04-09-2013 03:04 PM

Uh, because he said he talked to the guy and he said before he didn't collect Marvel Universe?

Or, y'know, reading is for noobs I guess.

Yeah. Read that. And it doesn't account for someone who maybe just likes a figure or is starting a new line of collecting. I've bought figures that caught my eye in lines I ended up not collecting before, and I'm sure that's not an unheard of thing. So, y'know, it all ends up looking like rage that someone just didn't get what they wanted. But go ahead, punch a stranger in the face while accusing him of being a scalper, and let me know how that works out for you?

JamzMan 04-09-2013 03:25 PM

Why???

I am an MU collector and a Hot Wheels collector and how would you like it if someone went in to your house and bent your stuff or to the MU aisle and bent all the cards. I AM NOT A SCALPER, believe me being in HW and MU, they are the scum of the planet but your just as bad as a scalper to me!!!! Also this is supposed to be about appreciating toys (MU in particular) not destroying them.

DogFashionDisco 04-09-2013 03:31 PM

Haha, this conversation is ridiculous. Not as ridiculous as a grown man wearing cut off jean shorts, but pretty close.

quinten182 04-09-2013 03:38 PM

I am the OP of the post from the HW guy this morning and I never said anything about destroying toys. I only wanted to scalp away the rare things from him because he did to me. He knows I collect those, like I said, we see each other almost daily. I even spent a while last week talking about how they haven't ordered a new case of MU at this WM in months and I can't wait when they finally do if they ever do. He said he understands and blah blah about his hot wheels the same things sometimes. I assure you this guy only picked it up because it was a variant. He spends hours every morning in this wal-mart, he knows the toy aisles inside out. He has nothing else to do, he is older and presumably retired. There is nothing wrong with this, but my point is that he knows when something changes in that aisle. He stopped at them because something was new/different. He looked at the cards, seen one was different than picture on back, picked it up. I very politely said that was the only thing I was looking for and if he was for sure getting it. And this normally polite and easy going guy suddenly became cold and quick to snap "yep" and quickly walk away. He knew this was different, he knew he was screwing me over, and he wanted to get away asap because it was awkward for him.

I don't condone destroying his things or anything like it, but man do people like this bug me to no end. I honestly thought having previously shared what I was interested in would help me, but no..

Unless you've been to this guy's house and seen his collection or ID'd him as a seller listing stuff at ridiculous prices, all you have is a "feeling" that he's scalping. Polite or not, it's really not any of your business what other folks in the toy aisle are doing with their purchases.

I know a scalper like that. I use to go to a local Thrift Store to get my son Legos. Scalper was very friendly when he met me and I even helped keep an eye out for the stuff he so called "collected". About a month or 2 ago, I keep going and not finding any Legos. Turns out he was taken them and putting them in his car before I showed up and blaming a lady that buys for her grandkids. To make the story short, I complained to the Manager that things were being held for him, he got ticked off and I let things be. Now he argues with everyone collecting figures/toys of any sort before he can grab it. So a bin of Legos I use to buy for $25 now gets sold for $150 due to the mess he continues to cause. As far as HW, movie/show cars, vehicles with rubber tires and vehicles with a circle with flames is what you want to look for...

wylde bil 04-09-2013 07:04 PM

well this place got a tad bit tense

bmorr 04-09-2013 08:06 PM

I've been here roughly three years, and have seen the scalper/collector discussion come up every once in a while. Its always pointless, like trying to sail a sinking ship. but it always ends up with heated discussion.

point 1: I said nothing about going to dudes house, that would be a crime.
point 2: i said it would be a dick move, in dirrect retaliation to this guys dick move, not that it would be right or just, or that I would do it.and no I wouldnt like it, but I try not to assume the stuff on the toy asile is mine before I buy it.
point 3: I buy alot of stuff off of scalpers on Ebay, It sucks, I pay more than its valued at(Bag Head Spidey) but its worth it to me, otherwise I wouldnt pay. Besides the secondary market makes collecting more fun to me. I enjoy raceing to find a rare figure, or finding something on a shelf thats going for 50$ on Ebay.
point 4: define appreaciation.... if you open your toys you probably dont care about the package....if your "investing" for resale...well good luck with that.

ChuckSass 04-09-2013 08:44 PM

so yeah, still looking for that Bag man

wylde bil 04-09-2013 08:54 PM

i buy stuff off of ebay and if i saw something worth a good amount on the secondary market i would buy it to resell it, in hopes to recoup some of the money ive shelled out for my various collections; hell it was the second reason i bought boxes of cards of the 3 card games i use to play. i see nothing bad about it, ppl will pay what they justify its worth.

now with that said i have normally sold stuff for under market value so that it can be a win win, but thats cause i believe in optimization over maximization in most things

I've seriously traversed about a 50 mile radius in the search of NOVA.

Been to every Target, Walmart, ToysRus from Lake Geneva, WI to Vernon Hills, IL

Thinking that it's almost hopeless~ :(

Holy jeebs~! How much do you think? Seriously not into the idea of paying $40-$50 for him. :(

PM if you find out for me~! Or... if you see anything in my BST we can trade.

To clear up this scalper thing once and for all.. I went back this morning to grab the other Prof X and Jubilee for a friend now. (Still have the first set if anyone needs!) and did find a regular Blastaar that had now made it's way to the shelf somehow? Either way, happily picked that up. On the way out.. in comes the same guy, we exchanged hellos, and I watched him proceed to the returns counter, which isn't a big deal, he is returning toys daily, presumably because ebay didn't give him the price he wanted, but that again is an assumption on my part. This time though, kept a watchful eye as I lingered around the self checkout to watch him bring back/return... the Blastaar variant....

EDIT: Though angry, I said nothing, never do, but proceeded to the counter after he left to ask if I could have it.. nope.. has to be reset first... ugh. So here I am at work hoping it's there tomorrow morning. :(

Where is that Ron Burgundy GIF when you need it?

Speaking as a recovering HW collector, not all of them are as bad as the denizens of Mos Eisley. (And according to Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina, most of the patrons and staff weren't that bad, either. Not to mention Ben was always a bit stuck-up and judgmental - but I digress).

Just like every collector hobby, there are good nuts and bad nuts. Unfortunately, with HW you usually see the bad nuts more often than the good ones. And yes, those bad nuts are ruthless when it comes to collecting/scalping.
