In fact, Hasbro DID get away with it for a while even though we had pictures. Not EVERY repaint is a bad one - if it is done creatively. Hasbro for the last two years has reused Joe torsos like crazy, but done so with creative uses of web gear and paint that it wasn't obvious. Sure, they are going to cut corners when they can - ie, most of the "big guy" torsos, female bodies, etc. - but they usually do it well. Yeah, I'm frustrated with how many of the MU figures have painted features instead of molded - and some of them are downright dreadful - but it IS enabling Hasbro to produce a wise variety of figures and occasionally some spectacular ones that are unique molds that they may not get much future use out of. As a whole, its a great line that ties in with the movies pretty well (Thor, I'm looking at you!). Sure, you can complain about a sneaky use of an old head, but if you didn't know it, would you like the figure? It was a pass for me, as I have enough IM figures, but If this is something you wanted, I wouldn't hold this against Hasbro.

I agree with almost everything you say here, and the Iron Man head sculpt is OK for what it is, but I think a lot of us were wanting a Tony head sculpt with hair. Hasbro's choice to use the MM head only prevented them from doing what they should have done. And the Psylocke head choice was awful! Why not retool the X 23 head? I'm all about Hasbro saving money where they can, but some figures really should get a little more love...

I think if some of us were in charge of mixing and matching previous sculpts to make new figures, that we could do a bit of better job.

I love the line but I'm picky and when decisions are made that clearly show poor judgment I'm going to notice and I'm going to say something about it.

it's not quite elegant looking and one could sand down and paint the areas so they match better.

i tend to just update the older figures with swivel thighs, swivel hinge necks, and rocker style ankles \m/

It's full of awesome. Thanks for the details. I might give it a shot.

anybody else cant wait to see the Avengers Toyline? I want vehicles. I'm praying for Quinjet. Maybe the Shield Flying Car will finally debut.
Also I was thinking since Ghost Rider is coming, maybe they'll finally release a 4 inch scale Ghostrider Bike.

Do Boy 09-19-2011 08:15 AM

Re-did my setup a little bit. I still need something better then my cell phone camera lol.

That Colussus picture is sick. Is it pretty easy to pop the head off the Sentinel?

Latest Purchase. Stupidly forgot to focus the camera. I was taking a quick picture before I ripped these bad boys open. Little annoyed that the Scarlet Spider's nameplate says Spider-man. He's not Spider-man!!!!!! They're all awesome though... some more pictures later!

The non-variant right side up version has the name plate that says Scarlett Spider.

Zictor 09-19-2011 08:47 AM

I know but it's not overly annoying. I just wanted the Scarlet Spider to be honest. It just bugs me a little haha.

I think it's pretty stupid too. Why not position Scarlet Spider sideways and include and Iron Man stand with that version?

Ben Reilly, the original Scarlet Spider is Spider-Man though.
During the clone Saga it was revealed he was the true peter parker. So for temporary time during the comic run before he took the new spider-man suit, he was the scarlet spider and the true spider-man/peter parker.

Now after his stint in the new spidey costume, it came back around that Osborn messed with the results in reed richards' lab(don't ask me how), and he was indeed the clone.

The variant stand is a nod to this. Just like the Skaar variant stand also says son of hulk, and Namor's stand says something else that's a comic reference.

Spider-man has never been Ironman, so that would indeed be silly.

I know all of that, but he's not Spiderman (he briefly thought he was and so did Pete, I know, but he wasn't). I'm not familiar with whatever is on Namor's variant stand, but I get Son of Hulk and I get the Skrull thing,.. I get this too (I know the Scarlet Spidey story), but it's stupid. I toss my stands in a box and use standard clear stands, so it's not something I'm incredibly upset about.. I just think that was a dumb choice for an alt stand. Iron Patriot might as well have come with a Green Goblin stand.

Love the Deadpool pics, vampireheart. Especially the ones of him TP'ing Spidey and stealing Jigsaw's Puppet's trike.

That's all well and good, but it's off-topic here. This thread is about Marvel Universe and other Marvel 3.75" lines, not DC toys. DCUC has its own appreciation thread here.

I need to get a second X-23. I want to rip her hair off and add it to a new head so I can have Unmasked X-23. Ready for the Avengers Academy(As Solicited Today!)

I doubt we'll get any good vehicles. We never do. But I secret hope for that bike too... hmmm...

I really can't wait for the series, but I am concerned because the Comicon photos show no ankle or wrist articulation at all.

^^^ also no waist or torso.

True, but I have a feeling that the Avengers movie, being the biggest blockbuster coming out next year, Hasbro is going to go all out on this one like nothing else matters.

Boba Fettuccini 09-19-2011 11:26 AM

Hopefully these are just prototypes, and they're not pulling a Green Lantern over on us.

In that case we'll be forced to use one of the seven versions of each 3.75" Avenger we all already own :D

Too True! Although my Skaar stand actually says Skaar and not Son of Hulk.

I know all that I just want it to say Scarlet Spider. He doesn't look like Spider-man! Anyone who doesn't know this that then looks at my collection will be like "When did Spider-man wear that?" It happened before with Spider-man 2099 you see... anyway at least I have the figure :D

The shield flying car seems likely. Ghost Rider made a 4inch scale bike with the first movie, but it was one of those weird rip cord or launcher things. It's a bitch to find, and now if you do it costs an arm and a leg. I was looking high and low for it when I realized it was out there. Hopefully though you're right and they'll do another, maybe even a bunch of the bikes. I'm not fond of the new movie's bike. It's just too bland. I liked the first movie's bike and would love to get my hands on a daniel ketch era GR bike.

The most we might get for the avengers line though in vehicles is that flying car, maybe a recolored wolverine movie bike, so other vehicles repainted, and possibly the shield helicarrier from SHS repainted. I do hope they go all out and give us a shield helicarrier that opens up into the triskellion, but I doubt it.

I am digging that avengers movie captain america though. So far he might be the only one I buy from that line unless they show off some more, and have some comic series figures. I'm expecting minimum at least a hawkeye and black widow in the line as well as nick fury. All three of those I'd buy in a heartbeat since I don't already have them. Thor and Ironman I've already picked out what I want for my movie avengers team.

The variant stands are just hasbro having some fun because they want to nod the comic stories. You don't have to like it, but it is a nice nod and speaks directly to the fans of the comics on purpose. Personally I like the little touches like that, and Namor's Imperious Rex on his. It's just neat seeing how much love of the line the team has that makes them. It's a nice personal touch. As for Spidey 2099, well he is spider-man, just of the year 2099.

And it's not so much that peter and ben thought Ben was spider-man, he was intended to be so if the sales hadn't slumped so bad. They retconned the story and brought peter back because of that. BND is the second answer to the problem they were trying to fix. That of the marriage. Originally the ben reilly spider-man was supposed to be the way to make spider-man single again while still giving peter parker his happily ever after. Instead... well yeah.

As for Iron Patriot, I do hope they make a variant stand of him that says norman osborn. Maybe not Green Goblin unless they do the variant of him from the end of siege where the mask is stuck to his face.

I doubt it. Id be surprised if these are on par with the Thor movie line toys and IMO crap when compared to MU but I hope im wrong. From that first picture im not impressed at all.
