I have to do that with silver paint especially. It always looks great to the naked eye but when I take a pic it's easy to see if it needs more coats because the underneath color, or sculpt compound, will show thru. Finish up those Mew Mutant kids, LM!

Then too, once I put the pic up, I can see what I need to fix. I have a body for Sunspot now, just need a head. Same with Moonstar.

CREATOR OUT!!!!!

That would be cool and I’d be game. Really dug that Spiral, if you couldn’t tell from my previous comment. Looking forward to your next batch as well.

I’m happy to see this thread kicking with everyone’s customs. Great jobs all!

FYI, I read that the Skittles Pool pack had shown up on Amazon but sold out quickly a couple of weeks ago. Unsure if they will be restocking but I don’t see why not given the sequel movie this summer.

Prem1x 03-29-2018 07:43 PM

5 more days and that Jabba barge hasn't reached 5000 people I'm actually considering baking it just do it happens so maybe a Helicarrier gets made. Seems like quite a gamble.

Dude it would be cool, and thanks for the spiral love Sender. We need to do more projects together on this site. I am like you sender totally
game and ready and willing to put in some work. Dude do you have a simple request because the Creator may have a little free time to create something for you sender, and thanks again. Guys we have a ton of talent on this site so lets show these people what this team can do.

@Mordi - thanks for the kind words

@Creator - Spiral is indeed a badass. She's been in my top ten wants since 2009. That's her best look, with the blue and fur boots. A couple hands swinging weapons, a couple more casting spells, and a couple more for backup, who's going to beat her? Nobody!

Thanks Prem1x for you're support, and I will make you guys proud, or at least try to.

My approach to making a figure with zero paint rub consist of ::

step 1 : break the figure down
https://i.imgur.com/mu33YdRh.jpg

Step 2 : 320 sand
https://i.imgur.com/RknN0H3h.jpg

step 3 : minor acetone bath and rinse
https://i.imgur.com/cAAJafBh.jpg

step 4 : basecoat paint ( I prefer black )
https://i.imgur.com/PZOU4kGh.jpg

end results no paint rub no underlying paint, and gives extra definition as shown

Its happening my friend! 5245 Yay!!! The 3.75 figure is on the cusp of resurrection! We all should celebrate / talk of this. If the SW Vintage Collection can succeed with HasLab = then a MU 3.75 "Vintage Collection" can also succeed. How cool a Hellicarrier would look in a "Vintage Collection" Toy Biz box!

I'd be on board with a Punisher van, and a "Vintage collection" if it was as good as the Star Wars one looks, but I'm still iffy on the Haslab Kickstarter model. Sure, the Sail Barge is FUNDED, but whether or not it actually gets here remains to be seen. Not that I don't admire the ambition of the thing in terms of scale and paint, it's just got some eyebrow raisers here and there.

After all your various customs in the last six months, i can't think of any requests, so thank you Creator. And thanks for the step-by-step custom tutorial. In truth i haven't taken apart many MU's so much as i have JOEs. That's some serious commitment though.

If any of the Arkers have any theme requests that we can all work on, i'm more than happy to collaborate together. It really does sound like fun even if many don't reply.

Coldblood. I have yet to see anyone tackle him in either scale. Poor bastard is probably one of the most underutilized characters to come outta marvel presents where i first read about him then in a few issues of deathlok. Also Dakota north.

So, everyone is loving this has lab thing? And don’t get me wrong I love the sail barge, but 2,500,000$ +? They’ve gotta be making some serious profit there. I defiantly think they’re going to do more stuff this way, in fact I’m kind of worried this is the way the collector market is going to go. Why mass produce anything when you can presell everything and cut it off at a pre determined number to ensure maximum profit. But the downside for collectors will be the fact that the secondary market will be pure scalpers.

I have said before, the key to a successful line is 3 things, Figures, Vehicles and Playsets. With rising costs, playsets become the hardest part of the equation to justify. The best basic plan so far has been to make modular sets and include the pieces with the figures, BUT, the only attempts at this so far have been miserable failures and nobody seems to be poised to master this process any time soon. Alternately, some small private companies could design some basic sets useable with multiple lines and become successful, as you would buy only as many pieces a you need. You would buy your Hasbro SHIELD agents and then your SHIELD HQ in pieces from and indie toy maker, cutting Hasbro out of the loop and forcing them to adapt to stay competitive.

I’m with you on this one... I just stopped by Ross and saw the 6” enchantress for $6.99 with a giant dormammu torso and accessories. What hasbro has shown me with the 6” line is that you can do pretty much anything you want as long as you produce enough of it to take advantage of economies of scale. Heck even the 12” figures are deeply discounted and they already tried 6” scale vehicles like the tie fighter and the moon car deal on tattooine. Too bad they don’t give a shit about 3.75” figures anymore. For $500 you could probably make your own custom sail barge and make it better. Hopefully those who did buy it get their money’s worth

I miss the old Hasbro Star Wars vehicles.

I just think it’s a bit... I don’t know “tenacious” perhaps to require an over 2,500,000 dollar advance on an item? That’s the kind of funding you get to build a flying car for god sake! They’re making hella profit on this one, and it’s up front! For all the people who complained about what loosing TRU will do to damage the toy industry, just wait and see if this trend catches on... “ just pledge 45$ and Neca will produce the perfect predator figure” or “ Mattel will do a full set of highly articulated 3.75 justice league figures... for your pledge of 800$” high end collecting will become relegated to the super rich, and the rest will have to settle for poorly articulated 5” crap.

To be fair, they're putting a LOT of paint on something that is almost twice as long as that 2008 Millennium Falcon(judging by the Hasbro Pulse Instagram) plus they have to ship that crap securely since no one wants to get it broken, plus they might have to make more than what is ordered for the sake of replacement parts, theft in shipping, or even to just make it available for late bloomers, so needing that much money isn't all THAT surprising.

Still think the Kickstarter stuff is kinda suspicious, though.

MU should have done stuff like this but they doubled down on questionable comic 2-packs.

Me too, but mostly I miss the old GIJoe vehicles. I don't know why romanticizing the military worked so well in the mid-80s but it did. I actually have a hard time envisioning a toy-version of the modern military.

Agree. If it comes as well painted as the one they put in the video, I think that's where a lot of your $500 went to.

kylactus 03-31-2018 10:09 AM

The gi joe USS Flagg retailed for 109$ in 1985, if you figure in inflation that’s 247$ in 2017. If they were to reissue the Flagg for 250 I’d buy 2 in a heart beat. Plus it wouldn’t take much to design some mountable turbines and make it a hellicarrier.

Agreed, but the only Helicarrier Stahl will do would be for 6" scale and probably $500+. Of course given that they tend to make playset just a bit small to save on plastic it might end up being perfect for us, but not so perfect at that price.
