Exactly why I made my shelves the way I did with a dowel at chest height in front and a decorative trim piece across the back - keeps everyone on the shelves even if they tip. I used to have them on those tiered spice racks back before I really made MU customs and the amount of times I had to pick up a "plastic avalanche" nearly made me chuck all of them into a box and call it a day.

Anyhoo. Got some more lovely customs from Pilk...

Oh yeah, MB and Howard are spoken for. Still have the box until tomorrow, then it's going into the recycling bin (cardboard and all that).

I wear cats too, but it never helps darken things.

Oscarv 07-06-2018 03:38 PM

I will admit, all that yellow is a bit much :D

The display is normally fine, when I went in there daily. Couple of bits to sort, nothing major. I haven’t been in there for weeks and weeks though!

Mordi;

First, cant remember the name, but a demonic marvel villain

Second, Lady Taskmaster, from a Deadpool comic I read

Third, again, forgotten the name, but he was a villain in the heroes for hire comics.

Fourth, you know already ;)

LordMudd 07-06-2018 05:20 PM

I just cannot understand why anyone would want to wear a yellow costume, especially with the way people keep hitting school buses...its like painting a great big target on yourself.

Only thing worse that I can think of would be a red shirt.

It's so when Thor throws a lightning bolt spewing hammer at you and your piss your pants no one will notice. It's strategic!

Saw the new deadpool rainbow color pack at Target, total pass though...at 65 for that set no way...The blue one looked cool though but here's hoping it'll shelf warm and drop in price.

These will definitely go on sale. If your area sells out, let me know. I don't think any of the Targets I've been to has even sold one.

What would be an acceptable price for that set though? It's pretty firrmly in the "not at any price" category for me.

How big is the tallest? Say Ghost for instance, how big is Ghost in that set?

The Universe is expanding.... (pics to follow in next post)

I actually bought something new for the collection. I picked up the new Wolverine along with Jessica Jones. I almost wrote that I finally got something without the intent of customizing it, but then I remembered that not only is Jones for sure getting a custom redo, but so is Wolverine. Actually Wolverine is already in pieces; I started working on her almost as soon as I opened the package. However, they're for next time... In comic news I started dipping back into the cosmic realm again. After seeing Infinity War in theaters I re-read Thanos Quest and Infinity Gauntlet to start. All this reignited my interest in cosmic characters and I decided to do another batch of space faring customs. I've got a lot more cosmic stories to read too. Psylocke & Jean Grey are there because I had to fix paint issues - Psylocke: I redid her outfit lines and gave her the right cut. Beast is a QEC that I gave a quick repaint to bring out the sculpt texture. Came out well considering it's not a full custom. Firelord is there because I finally, finally, got around to making the flame blast end of his firestick. (Bah, I actually omitted him from the group shot by mistake, but he's in the Heralds pic.) And lastly the Silver Surfer could be considered a full custom with everything that went into him. I completely reworked the head to even out some issues and repainted the silver on the figure and board completely. To finish the redo he also got a complete full body gloss to really make him shine. I even made him a base to hold his surfboard - two notches to hold the board either at the middle or the end. Right now the board is set in the end notch so the Surfer can stand on the back of the board. I'd been wanting to redo this custom for a while. This was the perfect time with the other Heralds getting worked on. So, anyway, onto the rest...

Morg - I didn't have many Surfer books back when I was actively collecting as I only ever seemed to pick one up when it tied into a larger cosmic event, but I did run across Morg at some point. Morg was one of my favorite Heralds, back in the day, design wise. Along with a really cool design he had a nasty personality. I always viewed him as a taller, bulkier character, so putting him on a Herc buck made sense, but I had to change out the legs to give him a height boost. The sculpting was a nightmare, but it had to be done. And since I had to do it anyway, I was going to do it right. So I sculpted over the entire upper body and head. I also had to sculpt the boot spikes, part of the gauntlets, the raised bits on his waist and finally his hair. I made cutouts for rest of gauntlets and the knee pads rather than sculpting those bits. For his weapon I just painted over a lightly sanded down Executioner axe. I was going to do a bit more to the axe but it was really unnecessary. The Heralds are coming along nicely. I'll try to knock out a couple more the next time I do cosmic characters since there's not many left that I want in the collection.

Gorgon - Finally, FINALLY Gorgon is done!! I've seriously had this guy on my to make list for years, always being bypassed because I had no idea how I was going to make him properly. I had to get really creative to get his look right. If you look at his early designs, Gorgon didn't have horse legs, he had hooves at the end of rather normal looking legs that were bent in the right spots to look like a horse's legs. Get all that? So the first task was making realistic looking horse hooves on the bottom of his feet. Way, way easier said than done, but I achieved the desired results. He can balance perfectly on them (though I'm keeping him on a stand regardless). How bout dat! I don't know if he actually has horseshoes on his hooves, but I sculpted them on anyway. I had to sculpt on the bracelets, the baggy part at the bottom of his legs and the front of his headband. The worst and most time consuming part was the cape or whatever this is draped around his shoulders. Lots and lots of sculpting to get that on. The collar is, I believe, from a chopped up vision cloak. I also had to do more sculpting with the bottom of his tunic. In which I chopped up an Executioner piece and attached it to the torso, then I had to fill in the gaps with sculpt. It was a ridiculous process to make this figure! I'm glad he's done because I'll never make him again. I can't even accurately count all the hours I spent making him. Now the Royal Family is complete! Another team down.

Terrax - Terrax is not one of my favorite Heralds. So, while I was doing cosmic characters and was in a sculpting mood, I figured if I didn't make him now it'd be years before he got made. There's many ways to look at a character. For me, Terrax is less bulky than a lot of customs I've seen. Muscled, yes, but not bulky. There's an awesome Bowen statue out there so I went with that look putting a gloss over top of all the red and gold. Before I could even get to that though, I had to sculpt up the torso armor which took forever. Not counting curing time it was still hours doing the sculpting and sanding. I also had to sculpt on the glove tops, belt and boot tops. Oh, and his beard which was annoying to do as I couldn't sculpt it with the head on the body so had to constantly go back and forth checking that the beard wasn't too long and hitting the armor. The skirt pieces are vinyl cobbled together. Putting together his axe was a ridiculous chore, but I made it needlessly more difficult by doing it how I did. Trial and error, and this one didn't work out quite right. It looks ok for now, but I will eventually make him a new axe. Finally I started delving into custom bases with this guy - the Surfer moon rock base was made after this one - and I have to say, I'll be making more of these as a progression toward larger dioramas. Anyway, the 'rock' is removable from the stand and can be used for a number of other characters if I have Terrax on the shelf. I took a knife to half a foam ball and then used some hot glue in places before doing a lot of painting. All in all this guy took way too long to make, but I like the end results. Plus, now I don't have to make him down the road. That thought alone makes me happy.

Korath the Pursuer - I've been wanting to make this character for quite a long time. Since I decided to go cosmic with this batch it was the perfect time to get him off the list and expand the Kree military at the same time. I first saw Korath as a kid during Operation Galactic Storm (Cap America #399 - the sub-story is where my Crossbones custom's look came from). This was another story arc that I had tried to get all of back before 'pull lists' were a thing in my area. I had a fair chunk of the issues, but it's only now with digital copies that I got the whole thing. Anyway, I digress...I didn't use his costume from that issue. I went the accompanying artwork I found instead. I like the look more even though it lacks the external boot jets. What I liked most about this art is that his head piece looks like a hood rather than a helmet, so I worked to mimic that in the sculpt. I also had to sculpt up the arm & thigh patterns along with the glove cuffs. The crotch flap there is vinyl and a belt from...ah, that was the belt left over from Bishop that I cut the holster off of. Took a second to remember. I added a gun holster only because of the art. I did make a pair of stun sticks for him, too, but they won't fit in there. Ad even more angly the Wonderman hands are too big to even hold them properly so I need to get him a new pair of hands. Not sure if I'm going to make the full Starforce, but I have most of the members already, so maybe. Now that my Kree are really building up as a force it'll soon be time to start working on the Skrulls, of which I only have one. Time to change that.

Crystal - Crystal is a character that I know little about really. The first time I ever read anything with Crystal in it was during the Avengers' Bomber Jacket Hysteria phase. And of course she showed up during the X-related Bloodlines event but she didn't really 'do' anything. To be fair, it's not that great of a story to be honest and no one was written all that well. Moving on, I think she was in her black and white Avengers outfit during that time period. Can't really recall and not going to look since I didn't make that outfit regardless. I went with her classic black and yellow outfit to go along with the rest of the royal family. She was a simple custom. A two color paint job w/ a full face repaint. Had to take the mask lines off the head again, but that's not really difficult. She rounds out the last of the royal family that I have a necessity to have in my collection. I don't really g-a-f about Maximus. I suppose I'll make him eventually, but that's a very low priority.

Wraith - While researching art for Ra-Venn I basically re-read the entire Annihilation: Conquest event books. During that reading I ran across Wraith who I out and out dismissed at the time because Conquest was such a horrid read. It didn't age very well either, but in the interest of transparency I loathe Ultron as a character so his inclusion alone dragged down the story for me. I just find Ultron to be boring and annoying on every level and have hated every story I've ever read him in. But I digress...Wraith was the last to be made in this batch. His design is fairly easy with the body being straight black. I still had to sculpt the bandages on his arms and legs along with the hair. I added the hair in phases after putting in the ponytail - I sculpted the end of that last. Then I had to put his cape together which I blended vinyl and a GR cape together to get his look right. One holster later and he's ready to join the Kree on the shelf. I still need to make his whip weapon, but wasn't going to hold him up for that. I decided to make a figure of Wraith because he's an interesting and enigmatic character with a pretty cool origin story. More importantly, he's a new Kree character to add to the fold. I found even more Kree in this story that I want to add to my collection, but they're for another time.

Triton - This is another Hasbro figure that I just had to redo. Hasbro's Triton just doesn't fit in with my collection, so since I was already doing a couple members of the Inhuman Royal Family, I figured it was a prime opportunity to redo Triton as well on a fully articulated buck. I first read about Triton in a Marvel Comics Presents issue where he killed a mutated fish. Not much of a story to be honest. It was one of those filler stories that they added just to take up pages. But it introduced me to Triton's unique look and I wanted to recreate that. So, the first thing I did was sculpt up the boot and glove tops, the "tubing" up the arms and the chest assembly. Then I started on the scales. I covered the figure well, but not 100%. I took the head and belt from the Hasbro figure, adding scales to the head as well. A quick paint job later and he's ready to join the rest of the Royals.

Ra-Venn - As a character I'm still trying to figure out where Ra-Venn came from. She just appeared during the Annihilation: Conquest event out of nowhere as part of some Kree resistance. No introduction at all - to be fair she wasn't a very important character in the story either. A lot of character's looks vary from issue to issue depending on the artist. Well Ra-Venn's look changed from panel to panel in the very same issues so I picked a look I liked the best and went with that. For such a tertiary character she took way too much work to complete. I had to sculpt the shoulder pads, one elbow pad, the strap on her torso, the belt buckle and the knee pads. Of which the knee pads kept falling off so I had to glue them on. That's not even mentioning having to do her head which meant sculpting on the headband and then adding in hair. Then there was the paint job with some glossing in parts - armor and boots - to complete her. Yeah, she took a while... Anyway, she's done and added to my growing Kree army. Still planning to add Yon-Rogg, Kalem-Lo, Chell-Tek and a female Kree captain whose name escapes me at the moment but she was also in Conquest. No idea if she lived through it or not. Once I get these characters out of the way I'll take a pic with my entire Kree army.
