Just saw Joker and let me tell you it is Superb!! the whole movie you are embedded in his mind. the movie is very dark and violent. this is the perfect Origins story for Joker. His life is so sad that you kinda feel bad for him. the movie is very atmospheric and cinematic, you get that feeling like something bad is going to happen.

The role from Joaquin Phoenix will most likely get him an Oscar award thats how good his role is. His acting even competes with Ledger, yeah i said it. The back round music is also very good and there is also a twist with his love interest in the movie. Its NOT a stand alone movie cuase it is based in Gotham and there is a connection with Bats in the movie. Do not base this movie with the trailer cause the trailer was bad but the movie is Excellent.

Ad Astra, I liked it for the most part but I'm reading a lot of people didn't. So not sure that's a recommend.

Suspiria, strange 70's Italian horror, but not the strangest Italian movie I've seen by a long shot. Last the movie I'll watch on TCM because Xfinity(Comcast) are a bunch of *censored* and moved the channel to a higher priced package.

MeLikeJinx 10-17-2019 07:29 PM

^ I didn't like Ad Astra... the beginning was great, the moon stuff was amazing, but the ending was such a let down IMO.

The Breaking Bad movie was awesome IMO! I loved getting to revisit Jessie and Skinny Pete and a bunch of people from BB. Breaking Bad was the last show I ever got truly hooked on from the very first episode to the finale and it was nice to have closure to Jessie's arch.

How funny, I happened to be listening to the soundtrack as I was randomly looking through this thread and seeing your post. The remake is pretty good too.

Joker 2019 becomes the highest-grossing R-rated film, ever.

webz 10-28-2019 01:12 PM

X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Horrid movie. not worth a free rental. Last Stand was a masterpiece in comparison.

Tim 10-28-2019 03:40 PM

Sophie turner^ is the main reason I had zero interest in seeing it. She’s good in GOT but in apocalypse she was terrible. And killed me wanting to see Dark Phoenix.

I saw Terminator: Dark Fate tonight. Awesome movie. I've felt like the sequels have gotten progressively worse with each one but T: DF was a big step in the right direction. I've seen some people online complaining about one of the plot twists in the movie. Personally, I enjoyed it and the direction it took the movie in but I understand why others may hate it.

jwyss234 11-20-2019 09:14 PM

I saw Ford v Ferrari last weekend. I'd been looking forward to this movie since I saw the first trailer and it definitely delivered. I'm not a car guy but I found the whole process of them perfecting the GT40 fascinating and was astonished at how good of an engineer and mechanic Ken Miles was. I would definitely say this is one of my top five movies of the year.

I saw Jojo Rabbit tonight. Also a fantastic movie. It's a shame that a lot of people online are putting this movie down due to what they perceive as political incorrectness. But it's a great story about a boy getting caught up with the propaganda and fanaticism only to realize in the end that it was all a sham.

Vamp 11-30-2019 09:10 PM

I just saw Terminator: dark fate and it was awful and terrible. one of the worst movies i have seen. I wish i can get my 12 dollars back. the beginning was good all the way till the middle then it went down hill fast after that. Arnold's storyline in the movie is just plain ridiculous. it was so bad that I left and didnt see the ending and i rarely do that. that says alot. And there was a part that was unnecessary that came in relation with current events (train/border scene) I think after this movie the Terminator franchise is done. hey, at least the other movies were good. This was a quick cash grab for Arnold before retiring the Terminator franchise.

SideNote: Dont know if anyone noticed but the funny part about this movie is that when they promote it on talk shows and tv, arnold and sarah conner do the interviews but yet they dont have the main roles in the movie?? kinda weird, they should give the new actors some credit. The girl who did the Dani role (Natalia Reyes) did a great job.

Jojo rabbit is a fantastic film. One of the best I have seen this year(non superhero) I think film of the year for me comes down to endgame or marriage story.

Have five bro!!! Marriage story and JoJo rabbit are absolutely masterpieces imo

I saw The Rise of Skywalker tonight. For a bit of context, I enjoyed The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi (less than TFA but still enjoyed it). I found TROS to be ok. Some parts worked for me but others didn't.

What I liked:
  • Rey, Finn, Chewie, and Poe spent a lot of time together throughout the movie.
  • C-3PO has a larger part in the movie and tags along for some of the adventures with the gang.
  • We get a brief origin for Finn and the First Order's Stormtroopers.
  • Snoke's origin is hinted at.
  • Kylo Ren's arc.
  • The Cameos! I'll grey this part for spoilers: Voice cameos include Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano and Freddie Prinze Jr. as Kanan Jarrus (sadly, this also hints that Ahsoka is dead by TROS). And of course, Harrison Ford returned as Han Solo.

What I didn't like:
  • The beginning of the movie feels very rushed.
  • Rey's parents are brought up. I wish they would have left this alone.
  • Leia's scenes. I know they were using cut footage from TFA but it felt like Carrie Fisher and Daisy Ridley were saying lines at each other instead of having a conversation with each other.
  • I've always suspected that Palpatine was secretly behind the First Order but his inclusion just feels...off.
  • Rey and Finn's stories don't feel complete. Hopefully they'll continue in future movies.

Like I said before, I'm divided on The Rise of Skywalker. I'll probably see it again with my family next week so it's possible that my opinion will change after watching TROS a second time.

**Fun Fact: On an episode of Retro Replay, Nolan North pointed out that Poe Dameron is dressed very similarly to Nathan Drake in Uncharted 3.

I'm surprised to hear so many people upset that the parents were brought up. It was a big mystery in TFA that was really brushed aside in TLJ, I think it was time we got an answer.

Weapon X 12-21-2019 01:03 AM

I saw The Rise of Skywalker too and felt it was okay. I thought it was the best of the trilogy but felt the whole trilogy wasn't really that good and didn't justify it's own existence. Without delving into spoilers, I think one of the biggest problems for me was the black-and-white morality. Morality was much more grey, nuanced, and realistic in the prequels for example.

BagJo 12-21-2019 09:52 AM

I saw Rise of Skywalker a couple of nights ago. I don't think it was terrible, I didn't hate it, but I thought it was pretty disappointing and not a well thought out story. It's one of those movies that just falls apart under the slightest bit of scrutiny (the dagger, underwater spaceships that were built by who exactly? Apparently evil can be healed?)

Also, Palpatine being crammed into the trilogy in the final hour just smacks of desperation. It pretty much ruins the ending of Return of the Jedi since all their efforts were for nothing apparently (not the first time Star Wars has sucked the cool out of its own stories to retread old ground).

There were some good things though. A couple of nice cameos, Babu Frik was super cute/funny, ...and it's kinda hard to say the couple of other things I liked without major spoilers.

Ultimately the story felt very unfinished. Rey seemed like she was wrapping up Luke, Leia and Han's story more than finishing her own journey. Kylo basically got a complete character arc, but Poe and Fin were pretty much set dressing for 3 movies and that's a shame, because Oscar and John are fine actors.

It won't bother me if Disney decides to let the brand rest for a few years.

Weapon X 12-21-2019 05:13 PM

Agreed about Babu Frik.

But sadly, I don't think Rey ever had much of a journey other than wondering who her parents were. This movie didn't affect that much. I think she was far too powerful from the beginning, and that left her with nowhere to go.

As someone who thought Last Jedi was okay and didn't have any expectations going in, I thought it was pretty lousy. Still not as bad as Attack of the Clones though.

I love that movie

MeLikeJinx 12-29-2019 05:19 AM

Guess I'm one of the few... but I liked Rise of Skywalker. Everything did seem rushed though... reminded me of the last season of GoT in which everything was also rushed, but then I also liked the last season of GoT too while most hated it.

I mean Return of the Jedi hardly had any story either and basically was a repeat of SW with them trying to destroy the Death Star again and tying up a few loose ends. I feel like Rise' was trying to emulate Return of the Jedi's formula. But everybody seemed to give Jedi a pass back then (probably because of the amazing space battle special effects for '83) while everyone is hammering Rise' now.

Oh, people hated RotJ too. Until the SE was released it was fashionable in fandom to trash talk it. Then it was the SEs turn. Then TPM. Then AotC. Then RotS, though to a lesser extent to be fair. Then TCW. Then...

Personally I loved TROS, and TLJ. It's a good time to be a Star Wars fan really.

It wasn't really hated though. Nowhere near the level of hate later SW films received. The general consensus was that it was entertaining but flawed, the weakest of the OT. A lot of people were put off by the Death Star retread, Ewoks and Han not having much to do. But there was still plenty to like about it. People even complained about Empire...saying they didn't like downbeat ending and the fact that it ended on a huge cliffhanger. I guess no SW film is immune from criticism.

Also, talking shit about Ewoks will always be fashionable.
