it might not simply be in their budget perhaps for single carded figures , they might do it for 2 packs because you can spend a bit more money on the figures you get

the dark phoenix 2 pack, the main selling point for me was dark phoenix's heads , not cyclops being shaded ... though the figure does look cool. I imagine the majority of us wanted better a head for the green phoenix, perhaps.

The last single carded figure with shading was the black panther from the rocket raccoon wave, which i dont think many people liked, they way he looked. So hasbro didnt do that for a while due to feedback.

so true. I swiped that head so quick. The hair down version looks SO good on the green phoenix.

<slowly raises hand> I bought the two pack for both DP and Cyclops. Getting a better head for Phoenix was just a bonus in my book.

Shading though is hit or miss with me. Every Venom and Black Suit Spidey figure I have seen with shading looks terrible. On the other hand, I would have loved some shading on Morbius' suit as I don't like the glossy black. He's not a Twilight vampire!

Not sure I understand your point about the budget for shading. You mention that it's more likely to be there for multi-pack figures, since the consumer is spending more money on them. The DD that I was griping about came in the Defender's pack, and featured none, just a bunch of mis-matched colored plastics.

It's tough to spot in a photo due to the lighting I had to work with, but in hand, you cannot help but notice it's there. It's a huge distraction. It's especially noticeable on the arms, upper thighs, and lower legs. In addition, the torso and upper thighs have a semi-glossy finish to them, while the rest of the body is a bit more faded and muted.

The selling point for me was the character's looks in the set. The costume that Cyclops was wearing is what I think of when I think of Cyke, and the Dark Phoenix is an iconic look for Jean Grey, even more so than the green. The extra heads that came in the box set were a plus, but they didn't define my purchase. I would have been just as happy if the set came out with only the semi translucent psycho look.

Cyclops was just a really well done figure in that set. The paint shading was a bonus, as it not only paid homage to the comic, but it came out looking just great. He's definitely in my top ten figures for this past year.

There have been a bunch of figures since that Black Panther that have featured stylized shading and washes. Black Cat, Toxin, Rhino, Big Time Spider-Man, and Red Skull to name a few, not to mention a bunch of the MCU figures as well. How they've turned out is a mixed bag though, with some of them being pretty good (mostly in the cases of the MCU figures, although Toxin and Black Cat were well done,) while others, like the mentioned Panther and Big Time Spider-Man, being a disaster.

IMO......Overall its a decent looking fig.
But I actually like the CW one much more.
..and not only does the new head not really look like CB...but..WHY is it a lighter shade of brown that is clearly not his complexion.
Interesting.

Never thought I'd say it but, If it wasn't for the BAF piece with this figure...it would be a pass 4 me.

Unfortunately i don't cross county lines usually when looking for figures. As far as MY proximity of searching goes, that wave has been nowhere in sight but one time 4 months ago.

I agree with this. People shouldn't have to go halfway across a state just to buy a toy. I am the same way. If it doesn't show up at any of the 6 Targets, 3 TRUs, or 7 Walmarts I go to, it isn't in my area.

im liking the new legends version, the civil war one looks bulkier and black panther is not bulky. he is more athletic built than bulky built.
