I'm gonna save my thoughts on the whole matter for the movie thread, so we don't get too far derailed here.

Thaaaaaat was actually Mark Millar, not Bendis, who went forward with the incest in their Ultimate incarnation. Not everything disagreeable in Marvel is Bendis' fault. Hell, Bendis was writing the least controversial title in Ultimate's oeuvre at the time - Millar was the '2edgy' one.

After all, there's a reason this is an actual comic cover:

Yeah I usually bash the crap out of Bendis for what he did in the mainstream stories but I gotta admit that he handled his parts of the Ultimate universe fairly well. When you look at the whole experiment of how Ultimates panned out in hindsight it looks much less like a way to attract fresh readers and much more like Marvel seeing how much crap they could throw in to confuse and/or upset fans. Really this was just Ultimatum (from what I remember) but damn did one bad book wreck that ship.

Spyne98 12-14-2017 11:57 AM

I'm glad the X-Men and Fantastic 4 are home. Makes me smile.

Captain Nash 12-14-2017 11:59 AM

Sorry for asking here because it is incredibly off topic, but does anyone have a clue what may happen if you've bought the digital X-Men movies (through Amazon) once disney takes over? Do the contracts have to be renegotiated and they're gone from our library into the internet ether, where we must purchase them again?

FWIW I own the blu rays as well but there's a few series I've liked having digital back ups to watch anywhere, X-Men just happens to be one of them.

At least bendis is ruining dc comics now...not that they havent been doin that themselves since flashpoint. Hell they're one book i still kinda followed, deathstroke, lost me when he went all christian holy avenger.....if theres one thing i cannot abide is turning one of their best characters from badass, ( previouslyly ) immortal, amoral assassin merc into some poormans jimmy swaggart with weapons. Ugh.

I've actually really enjoyed Rebirth so far, particularly the Batman run.

Tomax 12-14-2017 01:07 PM

LMAO...I feel the same way, Arker! Hopefully now F4 can be put back on the map as one of the best super hero squads, and X-Men can be taken to another level of greatness with Disney in control:)

En Sabah Nerd 12-14-2017 04:09 PM

I'm also hoping now that there won't be any issues with the Avengers facing Kang as the next villain after Thanos.

Sorry, but no. Disney is one of the best damn companies to work for.

There is still a chance it could be blocked, which imo, it HAS to be. Disney will own a vast majority of media companies.
It won't be blocked. First, Rupert Murdoch is a friend of Cheetoh Hitler, he will approve it instantly.

Secondly, Disney will NOT own a majority of media companies. For one thing, the deal does not include Fox's news divisions (which would have been shut down immediately if it did). Secondly, Disney and Fox were only two studios. There's still WB, Lions Gate Films, A24, Legendary Films, Sony, Universal, Paramount, Dreamworks, MGM, etc.

The only thing Disney gains is a majority of the major franchises, which considering Fox hasn't gotten an Alien movie right since 86, a Predator sequel that doesn't suck, a third good Die-Hard movie, and most of the X-Men movies ranged from polished turd to dogshit, they have little to nothing. Planet of the Apes and Deadpool are like the only things they have done right in recent years. Hell, Kingsman 2 was actually a thing.

Quote:

It scares me politically, as they have an almost limitless reach. Deep down I am pulling for the anti-trust to really take a close look here.
There's nothing illegal in this buyout.

Besides, Sieg Disney!

VashTS 12-14-2017 05:34 PM

Bendis has talent, but then he fumbles a lot. The problem with Marvel is they has a lot of untalented writers and artists. They seem to hate their core audience, and in case anyone is in a shell, Marvel abandoned hiring talent a long time ago, and now hires based on ideology. They admit as much on Twitter and various articles that get released where interviews are done.

Bendis is DC's problem, but Marvel is still a train wreck that keeps crashing. Marvel is at a point where sales do not matter; just relaunch and crash...it's Groundhog Day at Marvel every few months it seems.

The deal still has to deal with huge obstacles involving the government and I think it will be greatly looked at as this is something that in the long run is bad for consumers. When the dust settles in a week, I am very interested in all the details emerge. Fox is dead if this goes through, and will slowly wither away.

A lot of hate in this post. I will leave it alone; if you think calling someone Hitler and making fun of someone's skin color at the same-time(irony) is the way to go about dialogue, the conversation needs to end immediately as the IQ level and words being leveled are in clear cohesion of an unstable, emotional person.

kenm2474 12-14-2017 06:16 PM

Lets hope that they don't tone down Deadpool.

Fox will be perfectly fine, they still have like four or five television networks with everything from 24 hour news to the NFL and sports to the Simpsons.

All this deal really does is trim the unprofitable fat of a movie studio and make Rupert Murdoch and his son even richer.

Honestly id be okay with toned down if it means they make him less focused on sex and insanity and more like how he was when first introduced. I mean they could get away with all the violence but ditch all the mushy romance crap.

You cant have your cake and eat it too. Deadpool in an R rated personality. You cant pick what you dont like out and leave the rest. Its all or nothing it would change what we all know as Deadpool.

I just meant that , personally, id like a return to the more serious merc type deadpool like when he was first introduced in new mutants 98. I mean the fourth wall breaking multi personality horny deadpool was amusing at first but its definitely kinda worn out on me at least. And with him being more villianish post hydra cap war thing itd be nice to see the slapstick toned down. Thats just me though.
