SP//dr huh? Eh. An ok choice. It’s supposed to be inspired by Evangelion apparently, so that’s cool. I do like Spiderverse characters. Maybe by some absolute miracle we can get Supaidaman and/or Leopardon one day...

Black Arbor 01-07-2018 09:53 PM

Hopefully we see some teases from this next wave at Toy Fair at the very least, a new Doc Ock would be a must-buy, especially if it's either his orange and green jumpsuit or, unlikely I know, his white business suit!

lordbest 01-07-2018 10:42 PM

I think SP//dr will be the first proper/large size female BAF? So that's a nice first for this. I'm not a big Spider-man fan but I enjoyed Spider-verse so I'm interested in this.
The backlash against Gwenpool confuses me. One of the common complaints I see from Marvel fans is that they don't do anything new, then when they do those same people usually complain about it. Gwenpool is a smart, fun comic and it's a shame it's ending after two years. The art is amazing too, especially when Gurihiru is doing it.

Gwenpool does not belong in a Spider-Man wave. She belongs in teh Deadpool wave. She is a slot that could have gone to a real Spider-Man character. Someone who is actually important to the Marvel universe. Someone that matters.

Not some dumbass bimbo who thought it would be cool to cosplay in a Dollar Tree costume like Deadpool.

Also, her comic has been canceled, which shows how worthless of a gimmick she is.

Back to what matters, real Spider-Man characters. Hell, Spider-Ham would have been a superior choice to her.

I'm thinking customizers will wait for the Multiple Man fig.

Where I am at Spidey waves are much harder to find than the other waves for some reason though. The Moon Knight wave barely hit here I think and I didn't even see a single fig from the Silk wave. Pretty much every other wave I have seen plenty of though.

Seriously. Asides from Mysterio ; this wave is gonna peg warm hard. Just not feeling that oversized prehistoric dinosaur looking lizard. And some manga looking spider robot crap over a classic Kingpin as the BAF for the following wave? Wow.

warmachine6 01-08-2018 02:34 AM

if that's the new BAF for the spidey wave then i can easily pass on him , though hearing about doc ock and elektra im going to look out for ... thinking my wallet is going to be hurt this year with announced waves ..

I'm really glad people like you don't run Marvel or Hasbro. What bland comics and action figures we would have.

hasbroherofan 01-08-2018 07:07 AM

Is there any reason people thought Kingpin was gonna be the BAF? He’s not exactly a character who can’t be done single carded.

With all of the Netflix figures and Kingpin's popularity on the show, I think a lot of us assumed that a comic version could be a BAF since he's typically shown to be quite large. However, a Netflix version of Kingpin could certainly be a single carded figure.

Wish fulfillment I think. I certainly was hoping we'd get a comic KP and he would be a BAF. I say that because I can't imagine the mold done for him could be reused that often. A few examples yes but it would not be a standard mold, thus BAF would be a better choice.

As far as the actual rumored/non-confirmed BAF, I have no idea who the hell that is, but that's okay. I'm sure there are some that want it, so I am glad they're getting it. It's an easy pass for me - also very glad then that it's not like a Build A Tentacle for classic Dr. Ock or something, as a classic comic Dr Ock, either in white or green/purple, would be a definite buy for me.

I would return things to the way they used to be in the 60s and 70s. No more pretentious characters or stories because it's "edgy." Gwen Stacy would not be dead and she would be married to Peter. Hobgoblin would now be the Kingpin. Harry would never have become GG. The Fantastic Four would still be a vital series in the universe. Jean Grey would still be dead, so Scott would not have ditched his son and wife for her.

That’s true, but I think a large buck could have done reuse potential, especially for some other portly marvel characters.

Honestly the only one I can think of is Shadow King's human form (and that's isn't even the Shadow King form I want anyways). This is not just a portly figure it's a portly figure in a suit. I'm sure there's others out there but I just can't think of them.

Spyne98 01-08-2018 08:22 AM

A SP//dr BAF? Well ok then. Kind of out of left field but I'll take it. What the heck is Hasbro gonna do when they run out of Spider Verse Spiders?
Also, my brother gave me the Japanese Spider-Man Robot, LEOPARDON, for Christmas (from the Soul of Chogokin line). Watch, he gets made now too.

hasbroherofan 01-08-2018 08:30 AM

I’d love Leopardon.

Gwenpool was actually decent but no one wanted to buy it. It was made to satisfy a certain demographic who only complains and never buys. Gwenpool comic was really made for one reason, same with America, to get awards and get mentions on certain websites that give awards.

In the end, the shift is starting and that era in comics is coming to an end. Marvel needs to hire based talent and less on ideology.

Not my cup of tea, and will not purchase the figure like a majority of collectors.

I really have no problem with new stuff. Bucky/Sam as Cap? Fine! Ms. Marvel being a teen and Pakistani? A-OK! Several Spider-Men running around the 616? groovy! But Gwenpool will always be a cute variant cover idea that spiraled outta control. I'm sure the comic is great, but it just radiates a vibe of "silly and quirky and 4th-wall shattering" that I detest, just like Deadpool!

This! When characters that are basically created as parody characters become popular it sort of makes a joke of the entire medium. I can only take so much silliness in my comics. It's kind of why I don't like Squirrel Girl, Gwenpool, and to an extent Deadpool as well, though he's not nearly as bad.

Mind you, that's just my opinion. If someone likes the characters that doesn't hurt or effect me at all, aside from the character getting made instead of possibly other characters I'd rather see. But I don't want to "have it all" because that's way too much money to spend, and I'm not entitled to feel like Hasbro should be focusing only on characters I want to see made. I wouldn't complain of course but it's not going to happen.

I'm actually okay with Squirrel Girl, but I think that's mainly since she wasn't made to be a marketing gimmick to sell variant covers :D

hasbroherofan 01-08-2018 10:19 AM

I also dig Squirrel Girl. I’m surprised she still hasn’t got a figure.

Boy Blunder 01-08-2018 10:26 AM

I think a lot of the complaining, as evidenced by some people in this thread, comes from people not even knowing anything about Gwenpool before they start lighting into the concept. Yes, it spun out of a variant cover thing, that's true. But that seems to be the only thing people who haven't even given the series a shot know about her.

- She's not an alternate Gwen Stacy, despite her design's origins being from the 'Gwen version of heroes' cover event Marvel did. Her real name is Gwen Poole.
- Hence, she's also not connected to Deadpool (hell, she mentions that she doesn't even like his brand of humor all that much) - the name and costume come from her getting a costume made on the quick by a tailor who thought her name (Gwen Poole) was actually her superhero name (Gwenpool), and given all the guys running around in Deadpool costumes at the time (the Mercs for Money), just rolled with it.
- Her fourth-wall humor, likewise, isn't the same as Deadpool's, because hers is intentionally meta, due to being a comics reader from (an approximation of) the real world. It's a lot less "hey, this reminds me of issue number 77, remember that?" and a lot more "because of how comics works, I can actually call out this backgrounder's name and it'll give them a certain amount of protection from the events currently happening because now they're a recurring character". So a hell of a lot less 'let's be wacky because we're Deadpool!'

I'm sad that the book is ending (yes, ending - unlike the other books coming to a close soon, the writer hasn't actually said the book was cancelled, AND it's closing out on #25, a milestone issue, not some random mid-run issue, not to mention that it's actually getting an ending, for pete's sake), but it was an actually fun comic, which is in such short supply in a comic industry. It was parody like "The Orville" is a parody of Star Trek (IE in a way that's more loving than lambasting), had serious stakes, character growth, a relatable protagonist when you actually read about her backstory and motivations, and... Jesus Christ, it had Batroc as a regular supporting character. A longtime jobber actually getting some spotlight outside of a single Captain America story! How about that, huh?

I don't think Gwenpool failed, tbh, because it made it to the two-year mark, which a lot of comics right now, especially Marvel books and definitely new-character Marvel books, can't seem to get to. Which means it found an audience who loved it long enough for Marvel to give it a sendoff, rather than a mid-run cut. We're losing a number of books with more established titles and characters, some before they even hit their first/second year mark, but Gwenpool did something right enough for Marvel to keep it around until a proper finishing point. So that's gotta count for a lot.

W-o-o-o-w. Lotta ignorance of the character here. I'm not going to try and sway you, since your mind is already made up, but I am gonna nitpick one point here.

Gwen has as much reason to be in a Spider-Man wave as Misty Knight, or White Tiger, Daredevil, Moon Knight, or Ghost Rider. Or Ares in a Thor wave. or Death's Head II in a GotG wave (Hell, more reason than that last one). She's interacted with Deadpool on one, maybe two instances, while she's had a number of stories with Miles Morales, both in her own book and over in Champions (maybe more, I don't know) Heck, the lines seem to be tailored to certain characters - Spider-Man waves often also include street-level and non-Avengers characters (though now that we're getting some Defenders/Marvel Knights waves, that may change a bit), GotG waves often include general cosmic characters, X-Men waves can include pretty much anyone under the mighty mutant umbrella (unless they're anchored to a different hero/title), etc etc.

And worthless gimmick, huh? She got a figure, and Spider-Ham is still in action figure limbo. Go figure. But hey, either way, here's an idea - we know you don't like a lot of the newer characters. Like, we all know. So just avoid them, and avoid the conversations about them, and it'll relieve everyone of a ton of stress, huh? It's like I already posted, "It's okay to not like things, just don't be a dick about it."

And please, don't use the word bimbo. It's just not cool. It's really not. Grow up a little.

Her tailor making her look like Deadpool may be the kayfabe reason, but the reason in OUR WORLD is to snag some of that sweet, sweet Deadpool merchandising money.

ANYWAYS!

Hoping we see a new Future Foundation Spidey on the pizza Spidey buck eventually...

Harbinger 01-08-2018 10:45 AM

I just wish Deadpool would go back to his more serious style of being, ala new mutants and early xforce days, and theyd end the fourth wall breaking schtick. I mean go ahead and keep the annoying quippyness and all thats fine. I just would just like to see less slapstick and more seriousness in the book. I know its unlikely to happen and all but I can hope.

hasbroherofan 01-08-2018 10:51 AM

Hasbro probably wants to kiss whoever came up with Spider-Verse.
