As I mentioned before, I’m a fan of the idea of offering action figures (again) via dvd combo sets as another affordable retail option to collecting. Given the relative 3.75 drought in both MU & JOE, to see 3.75 inch Marvel merch that was generally unannounced was surprising if not refreshing. Plus it was interesting to know that Hasbro isn’t holding all the cards apparently in that department. A far cry from MU’s hey day, for sure. But it’s a start. Anyhow, toys are fun, even Happy Meal toys ;) |
I was never a fan of BaFs with Legends. They were usually too small. They belonged with MU. Modular playsets is also a sound idea. Mattel suffered with the YJ Hall of Justice and Playmates failed utterly with the Star Trek reboot bridge, but Jazwares is knocking it out of the park. If you only have a limited run, KISS, Keep It Simple, Stupid. (To bad Dwight still has not learned how to kiss yet.) ;) Modular walls for Avenger's Compound, X-Men Danger Room, or just an office building for the street characters like Spidey, DD, Iron Fist, etc. Cross media offerings are good too, but only if they are CONSISTENT. How many movies has Marvel given us without figures packaged with the DVD? HUGE wasted opportunity and lost profits. We could have had Jane Foster with Thor or Bruce Banner with Hulk. Imagine those sales numbers!

Hope you guys don't mind the slight plug, but I've got the second season of my 12 Days of MU reviews series going, and I need some honest opinions on one part.
https://youtu.be/29oLvAFsSmc There's the first episode for some context and comparison, but the latest episode is what I want to talk about. https://youtu.be/rEokEfi-xpE I'm doing a different style for articulation segments, and while I personally like it better, I would like some honest opinions on them. |

Whats up fellas and thanks for the inspiration to mod this guy, so that he can have better articulation. Also re-worked his hands, fingers, and neck, with Hyperion's upper thigh, and t-bar modded to fit Venom. Marvel universe Colossus upper arms almost forgot.

Seeing that sorry 5 POS Venom makes me wish I hadn’t passed on all those 4” Spidey line guys like Scorpion and Lizard because “they’ll eventually make MU versions with slightly more articulation”.
|
Earth Sentry. This is probably the easiest custom ever. I know I have said that before but when I said it, I did not even know about this guy, and something even easier will probably come along down the road to trump this one.

So I wouldn't read too much into it, and consider it a nice bone thrown to the community since Walmart previously had the spider-man 3 exclusive venom. As for Fortenite compared to the hall of justice in YJ, a lot of that had more to do with the figures themselves. The YJ figures had no real demand since they were done like the JL/JLU ones previously. If YJ had Foretnite level of articulation, they would have sold at high volume. Build-a-playset is very possible when done right. The problem is that it's been mixed in approaches so far, up until Fortenite, it's been very half-assed except for a few instances. Usually held back by the figures themselves. Like if Mattel tried it again using the new Jurassic World standard, it'd likely sell really well for DC stuff. (Which tbh, they could straight up repackage the hall of justice pieces from YJ for that even.) It's proven really successful over in mega construx too. The difference being, the success stories have all had decently articulated figures at a reasonable price. Same reason why Daretoku/Oretoku works so well over with Epoch in Japan. Price to articulation ratio plus accessories. |

[QUOTE=Snowflakian;783353]Eh, to be blunt, someone above hasbro in the food chain may have called in a favor to get that venom packaged in figure to go with the movie back before Venom itself was released in theaters. And it was a non-concern because it was a limited articulation promo item.

It's not being blunt stating another opinion unless you work for Hasbro and are stating it factually. ;) Regardless the reasons, it was still a pleasant surprise to see a Marvel figure made under the radar. Limited articulation aside, it was reasonably priced for what it was. It was obvious from the official pics that it wasn't going to be super-articulated. At best, for serious collectors, it could easily be used for customizing. Given the current 3.75 inch void in the line and no news of more MU or MCU figures announced, i bought into the future potential of offering action figures by this method as an additional way to collecting. Whether or not my support made a difference, i've enjoyed my purchase and now have a fun movie souvenir figure to play with and display on my desk. |
