Marvel Select Apocalypse arrived today. I'll start with my cons; the tubes are pretty firm so there's only so far you can move his arms before they unplug and the shoulders are restricted so that they can't achieve a relaxed by his sides position. He only has the one head featuring a fairly pissed expression, it's not terrible but it's not great either and again it feels limiting for posing ideas. Beyond the mentioned shoulder limits his articulation is pretty standard for modern Selects. On to the pros. He's a good-sized 7" scale Apocalypse standing just over 9" tall when upright and he captures his classic comic physique of large but not hulking (not that I'm opposed to the beefier depictions). His color palette is appropriately composed of varying blues, touches of silver, grey for his head, and red and yellow for his eyes. I think they should've been bolder with the red, in certain lighting it looks more like a brown. He has a pretty nice array of hand/arm options with a pair of relaxed hands, a pair of fists, a spiked-ball hand, and a claw and drill which replace the entire forearm. The weapons are compatible on either arm and have ports for his tubes. He's not perfect but considering he only cost $30 before shipping and tax I'm very happy with how this one turned out.

I'm glad I passed on him. The lack of a diorama base that every other MS seems to come with, the mediocre accessories, make this figure not worth it.

Most Marvel Selects that aren't just soft repaints of the old figures haven't come with diorama bases for a good while now. I'd argue the accessories are on par or better than what Hasbro included with their retro package version, all that had was two pairs of hands and one weapon hand versus a similar two pairs of hands and three weapon hands with this release. Continuing to compare to Hasbro's effort the only thing I give Hasbro the edge for is including an alternate head. Select has better paint, more weapons, is larger, and a $10 cheaper price tag.

Edit: I want to throw this out there, I'm not declaring this the be-all and end-all Apocalypse figure that everyone needs to own but I am defending that it is worth its msrp. If anybody is perfectly happy with whichever Apocalypse figure they already have they don't absolutely need this one too. To each their own.

Dr Kain 03-24-2023 08:59 PM

I forgot to add the lackluster articulation, but that's pretty much a given.

Picked up Scorch and Fixer at Gamestop since they're doing pro week sales which knocked them down to just under $20 each. All of my nitpicky problems from the Boss figure still exist here but overall they do have their unique flourishes that make me appreciate them. They still had Sev too but he just looks too removed from the way he was in the game for me to want.

I thought the same thing. The card art has changed and shows KARR but they couldn't update the name on the card? I am hoping for a revision card with the correct name to be released in the future.

I totally agree. I didn't care for the Mustang model either. I would love for this concept model to be used for any new Knight Rider media. Hard to explain it, but they nailed it on how to modernize KITT and KARR.
