The reason I say this is that while the newer characters solo films are popular, I wonder how audiences will react to group movies that do not have the MCU tentpole characters in them - assuming that Thor, Captain America and Iron Man are not serving/do not make it out after Avengers 4. The question is will the market interest be sustained in seeing a movie of second stringers? It very well might, but I think it's also possible it may not.

I've already heard on some radio stations, articles online, etc that some people feel there is just an overload of super hero movies.

While everyone obvisously doesn't feel that, it is apparent that some people are starting to feel that way.

Me personally, keep em coming. I love seeing them come to life on the big screen.

I fully disagree. I've never understood the love for Blade II. It was all action and no plot. The first movie was the only one that actually had a plot.

^^ Personally I'm burnt out on the MCU stuff that hits the theatres, as they all have felt like the same movie over and over again, with only Homecoming, Guardians 1 and Winter Soldier feeling any different. The stuff on Netflix though has a better grasp of my attention, although they have been a mixed bag of late. (Cage had a great first half but sputtered in the end. Iron Fist was awful. I loved Defenders though but was only to be let down again by Punisher.) Here's to season 2 of JJ to get things back on track.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but it seems there may be a white headed variant of Mysterio floating around out there. Not sure if it is a factory error, or an actual variant like Shocker was, but I have been seeing a couple of auctions as of late showing him off.

Weapon X 02-21-2018 11:13 PM

I actually like that variant a lot more.

Yeah that’s the point, don’t get me wrong, sometimes you want to Sit down and read war and piece, or dissect complex multi level plots of cunning and intrigue with deep rich characters with intertwining motives and internal emotional conflict.... but sometimes ya just gotta switch off the grey matter and spend 90 minutes watching Wesley snipes kick everyone’s ass...

EvilMonkeyPope 02-22-2018 12:36 AM

I prefer the green-head Mysterio, which seems less available on ebay.
What Shocker variant?

What Shocker variant?

There was a variant to Shocker last year that had a lightning bolt painted on the crotch, a nod to his time in the Thunderbolts. The original release of the figure did not have this.

1. Does anyone have any Okoye BAF parts they don't need that they can sell or trade or gift? The only part i do not need is the body. PM me please.

2. So i started my Marvel Movie Marathon yesterday with Blade.
First.. Holy shit at it being TWENTY YEARS OLD ALREADY...DAMN!!!
Second..If you haven't seen this movie in a while...DAMN.. you definitely need to check it out again. Decent plot without being convoluted. Frost was a decent bad guy.
Action-wise (recent comic style) this movie was wayyyy ahead of its time.
I realize a lot of this IS ACTUALLY because of Wesley Snipes. This M*ther Fokker is soooooo bad ass in this movie its sick. I swear I feel like he would fit in SO WELL in current MCU. My man was straight NO NONSENSE. NO GAMES..

i'm not sure i can give every movie a number rating..i'm sure at some point some will be so close. I may group them in tiers. like A class, B class, C class, etc.
for now Blade is my #1 (since i've only watchd one movie). and definitely in my A Group.

what does that even mean??..lol..if you don't like a genre...don't go see it. Go watch the Notebook or Blue Earth or go to the opera or whatever uppity folk partake in these days.

You definitley contradict yourself from time to time.
Yes...this movie was def more action than plot (my review of it later as it is second on my marathon list)
But how can you say you don't understand the love for it. It was sick as Fugg from beginning to end on the action. That's what lots of comic based readers want from time to time.
a BAD story and action is one thing. But an average to non critical story and tons of action..well that just works.

I agree 100% with you on Cage.
I agree 100% wiht you on Iron Fist (unwatchable)
I don't agree with you on Defenders. I actually though it was so-so at best. It felt rushed and it felt like they used "normal Television writing and action" instead of the formulas that made Daredevil great. (It felt far removed from the way DD was filmed and written)

Plus if you lived in a universe where aliens were invading New York, inter dimensional portals were opening up in Europe with gods flying through them fighting, cities were floating sub atmosphere and dropping to the ground, giant alien masses were popping up behind Dairy Queen’s and eating small towns, and giant ants were walking around. Some dude poping claws or blasting eye beams wouldn’t make the evening news...

Exactly, look back to what Vision stated in Civil War, comparing the amount of world events in contrast to how many “enhanced “ beings that are showing up. Mutants could easily be overlooked as another new enhanced human incident. Remember in their world it’s still a new discovery, meaning that in our real life continuity it’s been like 10-11 years of MCU since the first IM, Thor, Capt America movies, but in the MCU it’s all taken place in a matter of what?,..3-4 years tops ( not counting CA, TFA ). Even include the Netflix MU in the MCU and they still refer to the alien invasion from the avengers as the incident in NY and that they are still rebuilding, recovering from it.

X, I’d have to disagree bro. It would no more awkward than introducing Black Panther, Wasp, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man etc. etc. like my other post, in the MCU enhanced or super powered beings are relatively new to society.

People have been talking about superhero film fatigue since Avengers. Some people might be getting sick of them, and fair enough, but it's clearly not impacting the box office.

Panther 02-22-2018 07:37 AM

I love it when people talk about superhero film fatigue as if it's the only genre known to the public. The superhero genre is still a very small genre, however, with massive results. I'm not a big fan of the rating system on IMDB, but I challenge anyone to go to the IMDB website and look at the films being released this year. As far as superhero films we have Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2, Ant-Man & The Wasp, Venom, Aquaman, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Unless I'm missing one, that's 7 superhero films. Now look at all the rest of the films being released. I don't hear anyone saying there's drama fatigue, horror fatigue, or comedy fatigue. Personally, I just don't get it. Contrary to popular belief these movies are different, but it seems like they just keep getting singled out simply because they dominate the box office. I can't speak for Warner Bros, Sony, or 20th Century Fox, but Marvel Studios has changed the game. They are making good to great movies and are breaking the bank while doing it. Everyone in Hollywood is trying to copy their model, and no one can quite figure out how to do it right. I'm enjoying this Golden Age of Superhero films, and by Fall of 2019 I will have 22 films in my collection that signify story telling at it's absolute best.

Your crazy... you didn't like netflix punisher series? I thought it was great! Bernthal portrayed punisher very well. The whole story and everything else with the series kept me wanting more and more.

Honestly while i watched all the netflix marvel shows. To me personally only daredevil and punisher were the best ones. Luke cage was decent, iron fist was ehhh, Jessica jones whatever, and defenders decent.

Im with ya on punisher. While i wasnt initially good on bernthal as frank ( i didnt feel he looked like a good punisher ) his performance as frank sold me and now i cant see anyone else pulling it off. He really got into the role and pulled of the punisher essence perfectly. Booody, violent and lotsa guns and good story. Now if they can get finn jones to ditch his stupid hyde from that 70's show look and get him into a yellow mask and green long sleeved shirt and pants and yellow boots and hell even yellow fingerless gloves with a yellow belt then maybe ironfist season 2 might be better.

See, I shouldn't have to turn my brain off to enjoy a movie. I'm not saying Blade II is a poorly made movie, as it has a lot of great production values, but I think it is just as bad as X3 and Spider-Man 3, just without the poor acting. Ron Perlman is the only reason I can sit through the film anymore. I feel like the movie gets a pass because Del Toro made the movie.

I'm not saying I expect a comic book super hero film to be as deep as something like Double Indemnity or A Clockwork Orange, but I find myself bored through a lot of Blade II.

I know I'm repeating myself at this point, but there is no such thing as super hero fatigue. Black Panther just proved that. Some people might get sick of them, but I hate it when people seem to single out super hero movies yet ignore all of the romantic comedies, dramas, and horror films that come a year. Comic book adaptations have become their own genre at this point, so saying they need to release less of them yet have no problem with there being 200 horror movies a year is very hypocritical.

If someone feels like they are tired of them, they simply don't need to go see them.

Now if someone said they were tired of super hero movies that were constantly banking on you seeing the sequel in order for you to get a completed story, that I can agree with as every movie has been doing that these days. Studios are so concerned with setting up the sequel that they forget to make a movie. Alien Covenant did this. Batman vs Superman did it. Even Iron Man 2 and Age of Ultron did this.

lordbest 02-22-2018 08:30 AM

Yeah, that's my point. People have been talking about it since Avengers, superhero films are still dominating the box office so it's clearly nonsense as a phenomenon.

Truthfully, I haven't. The last superhero film I saw in the movie theaters was Homecoming, which I was dragged to. It was alright. Had Michael Keaton not been as awesome as he was though, I would have hated it.

Here is what I skipped out on at the movies:

GoTG Vol 2, Dr. Strange, Civil War, Justice League, Wonder Woman, X-men Apocalypse, Logan, TMNT OotS, Deadpool, Ragnarok, Ant Man, Suicide Squad, F4ntastic, Lego Batman, the last two Transformers films and a few others I'm sure I'm forgetting. Unless I am dragged to it, I most likely won't be seeing Black Panther. Venom I do have a admittedly biased interest, as he is one of my favorite characters of all time, however that teaser trailer did no favors to help my curiosity.

While I have missed many of these films in the theaters, I have caught up with a bunch of them. I have a wife who still enjoys them, and a young child at home as well. Many of these films are also on Netflix or have since debuted on television as well, so I've caught them at some point. Put they no longer peak the "must see" part of my brain. If I had to pick one that I liked the most, it would probably be Lego Batman. That flick was so off the wall, and the musical number at the end was the shit...

I loved Defenders, but mostly because for the first time in the Netflix universe, it actually all felt connected. The show had fewer episodes, which helped with the pacing of the story, and it was fun seeing these characters Netflix has spend the last two years building interact. Elektra was awesome. Plus...less of Claire.

My only real gripe was how The Hand was turned from ancient ninja clan into multinational terrorist/"second coming of Hydra" organization.

I thought Bernthal's Punisher was on point in DD season 2, but was WAY off point in his own series. He was whiny, boring, and too bleeding heart. For a character who is most commonly associated with being a lone wolf, he carried on way too many relationships. The forced romantic elements from Karen and Micro's wife were bad as well. I'll be castrated for saying this for sure, but Bernthal's Punisher ended up making Lundgren look like DeNiro in the Godfather 2.

The show itself was a confused mess of agendas as well as they tried to tackle everything from PTSD to gun control. Madani was beautiful to look at, but the show spent too much time with her, and ultimately, there wasn't a whole lot of punishing criminals with the show. Actually, outside the last two or three episodes, there wasn't a lot of action period...

I felt the story arc leading up to Jigsaw's origin was good, but that was about it.

Don't get me started on the ending...

It's cool if you liked it, but what I wanted was something more on key with Garth Ennis's Punisher run. Instead we ended up with something far more weak.

On a final thought, I've been screaming for Blade to be rebooted into the MCU for years on this forum. Under careful consideration though, it has to be someone other than Wesley Snipes. Wesley was fantastic, but he's also pushing 60 years old. Like many other action stars his age, it's starting to show. I'd like to see them bring in someone fresh, (preferably a British actor, since Blade speaks with a British accent in the comics.) Keep Wesley in tow though with a major supporting role...(maybe as a re-imagined Whistler or better yet, Jamal Afari, who was Blade's original mentor in the comics.)

Wesley as a re-imagined Deacon Frost? It's a pipe dream, given Wesley's supposed ego and eccentricities, but come on...how bad ass would THAT be?

As a huge fan of the horror genre, I can say that I definitely suffered from fatigue of the horror genre from the last 3 years or so. There are only so many found footage/demon possession/ghost films one can take. These films though have also dominated the box office, but I have stopped watching them altogether.

When 47 Meters Down was scarier than the last few Paranormal Activity/Insidous/Conjuring movies and their offspring, it's easy to tell you're burnt out.

All you poseurs thinking that Blade was the best pre-MCU Marvel movie obviously never saw Peter Hooten's riveting performance in the 1978 'Doctor Strange' film! :p

Back on the topic of toys, are there any out-of-package photos of the white-headed Mysterio variant? I'm probably going to go with the green anyway, but I'd like to better see if how the white looks, both with and without the helmet.

Is the difference just in the color or are they 2 different heads?

Judging from the picture that Triv posted, it looks like they're just different colors. Though out-of-package photos would clarify this better.
