sidenote: i can see why some would want to keep these MOC
they look damn good in the packaging

That Beast is one of the best figures from the Toy Biz line. I'm sure when Hasbro does release him, likely in the 2019 or 2020 wave at latest, it will be better somehow, but I really don't see how. The only reason I'm not personally clamoring for a new Beast is because of how well he's already been done.

Dr Kain 03-21-2018 07:27 AM

All they have to do is put Beast on the Jackal body and I'll be happy.

All good figures. My biggest issue with gambit is with his staff, you can't keep it straight to save your life.

Honestly, every Hasbro release should be better than it's Toybiz counterpart. Those figures are how old now? The one thing I do like most about the toybiz figures is the sculpting and details.

Nice! I also love the comic book look behind the figure.

Not a look, they came with comic reprints.

That Beast was a major pegwarmer around here, which always surprised me.

Thatd work for grey beast but blue jim lee era beasy needs a much more gorrilla-esque body.

sh002 03-21-2018 09:31 AM

My Deadpool wave case shipped from Dorkside.

Please. I get that there's demand for both styles, but Hasbro's (slowly) filling out the Jim Lee-era X-Team, and I think they'd be more inclined to give us bulky-Beast first.

Id be down for either. Im with you in id prefer the bulkier blue jim lee first as well. The grey avengers-esque beast could be part of a two pack with say lab coat hank pym.

Beast 5'11 looking UP at Sasquatch who's 10ft tall. News flash newbies, Beast isn't a 7ft 500lb Gorilla no matter that some new artists try & draw him as.

Hasbro just has to size this MU version of Beast to 6 inch scale with added ab crunch/biceps swivel & alternate closed mouth head & alternate open /closed hands/fists & that would be a perfect ML X-Men/Avenger figure imo.

True but while they've indicated intentions as such, that's not a rule. Look at Storm and Colossus. I would guess yes we'd likely get a JL Beast first, as redoing a Beast on a different mold is likely more costly than most figures due to unique parts. But who really knows...

I'm really looking forward to leaks prior to and the reveals for SDCC for X-Men. I'm guessing it's nearly 100% guarantee that over the 2019/2020 waves we will for sure see Beast, Nightcrawler, Gambit, Professor X, as not done by Hasbro core X-Men (well Beast was but way back in the day), and classic Mystique and Sinister as the remaining core X-Villains.

@Exodus - do we really need another Fantomex? ;)

1 - Never said he had to be big as in tall, just big as in muscular. Beast has been depicted as varying in body type, true, but he's been shown as bulky even as far back as the pre-fur days, bulkier than the Jackal body that everyone and their mother is trying to push.

2 - "Some new artists"... you do realize that, even ignoring the differing art styles, he's been pretty consistently drawn with a broad, muscular physique as far back as the late 1980s, right? Given that we're now in 2018, and he's been around since 1963, that's close to half, or even over half, of his entire existence. Sure, some current artists might be drawing him more exaggerated, I don't know. I haven't seen him in more than a guest appearance in a book for a while now (aside from young, pre-fur Hank in X-Men Blue). But he's been drawn for around thirty years as a lot more muscular.

Look, ya scalemonger, I'm not saying there's not room for both versions - in fact, I encourage it - but the style that a lot of people, including non-comics fans, are more familiar with is the bulkier version. So I'd figure that Hasbro would be inclined to go that route.

I was more basing it off of evidence rather than stated intent. Sure, there's outliers, but there's more supporting it than not.

Agreed! Just add the articulation and it’s done. And to cover both JL X-men beast fans and Classic avengers beast fans have the closed mouth head be the avengers era head sculpt.

I do agree on that. At least half of what we're getting is Jim Lee era looks. I just don't want to build up hope and be disappointed, like I think most of us were with Storm (though not just JL look but FA as well one of the two).

No thanks, I’d rather see some 90’s version of X Force; Feral, Boom Boom, Cannonball, Warpath.

This does bring up an interesting question though: which 90s/Jim Lee-style modern Hasbro X-Men do we have and which ones are we still waiting on?

So far we have (either now or coming soon):

Wolverine (Brown Costume and Tiger Stripe)
Cyclops
Jean Grey (she could use a redo on an updated buck though)
Archangel (might need a re-release though)
Psylocke
Rogue
Bishop
Phoenix (only if you're going by the 90s cartoon)

Then you have a couple of X-affiliates/villains with costumes accurate to that era, like Cable, Deadpool, Shatterstar, Multiple Man, Juggernaut, Sabretooth, etc.,

We're very close to full roster of the 90s team. Just a couple more figures, but unfortunately, Hasbro has already released members of that team in costumes from a different era and I'm simply not sure of the likelihood that we'll see them revisit these characters so soon. It was awesome of Hasbro to give us the two most iconic versions of Cyclops within one year, but I highly doubt we'll see characters like Storm, Iceman or Colossus for a while unless Hasbro decides to release them in a multi-pack (which might not actually be a bad idea for rounding out the rest of the team).

They still have yet to capture the look properly of magneto IMO.
Every attempt to do this style of that character comes out horribly.

We have or are confirmed to be released fairly close representations (they may not be perfect but are probably as good as we'll get)

Wolverine
Rogue
Cyclops
Juggernaut
Sabretooth
Psylocke
Jean Grey (though she needs to be redone because of cow eye syndrome)
Archangel, though it's been a while
Magneto (not a great one but it's fairly close)
Forge (IMO the one from the two pack from 10 years ago holds up well enough he doesn't necessarily need a redo)
Bishop
Omega Red
Shatterstar
Cable
Deadpool
Apocalypse
Stryfe

we need, as far as core X-Men and the bigger name X-villains

Colossus
Storm
Gambit
Nightcrawler
Beast
Professor X

Kitty Pryde (not really sure if this counts, did she have a "jim lee" look?)
Iceman
Banshee (because dammit that one from the first Hasbro wave should just be erased from existing.)
Jubilee
Domino
Havok
Polaris
Sunspot
Cannonball (sorry the one from the two pack does not hold up IMO)
Syrin
Boomer
Feral (blah)
Strong Guy
Wolfsbane
Rictor
Warpath

Lady Deathstrike

Pyro
Avalanche

Mister Sinister
Mystique

Exodus (he was big in the early 90's)

I'm probably missing some but that's a off the top of my head tally I'm putting in bold the ones I think we are more likely to get.

The Heat 03-21-2018 12:27 PM

Does anyone know a decent/reputable site to buy Legends scale casts these days? Specifically, I'm working on a custom Magneto and I need his forearms and boots to complete the effect.
