https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...f4504a78_b.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...fd7dc82c_b.jpg The Emperor arrived from Amazon today. I never even saw the first black series Emperor in stores but I've also seen how disappointing it was so even without his imminent return in Episode IX the guy was in need of a redo. For the most part this figure checks all of the boxes but it is certainly not perfect. Starting with the robe, Hasbro did a great job stitching the hood so that it sits right but they fumbled the sleeves. The excess material on the inside of the sleeves just sticks out and in general seems to get in the way of manipulating things. Overall the soft goods are still notably improved over the initial figure's release. Articulation matches with the standards seen in the rest of the line, which is to say he's well articulated. Palpatine comes with a total of three heads to choose from; plain serious, evil grinning, and angry with gritted teeth. From other user reviews I've seen the paint quality can vary from person to person but all three of mine came out fine. The fact that any color besides pasty white was applied is technically inaccurate to the movie but in hand all three portraits still capture the character very well. His accessories include alternate lightning hands, his walking cane, and his throne. The lightning hands are a mixed bag, they're well sculpted and I like the color of the lightning but overall the paint gets funky as for whatever reason his fingers and the beginning of the lightning share this grey color. His throne is simple but nice, it should be just a pinch taller though. He doesn't have his lightsaber and while this doesn't bother me since he didn't have it in RotJ I understand if people want it since they gave ESB Yoda his saber. In conclusion I really like how the overall figure came out but I don't really think the chair and alternate bits fully justify the double price. |

the Vintage Collection Knight of Ren figure came in the mail yesterday Saturday. Great looking figure. anyone know if the plastic hood is sort of super glued to the head and can it be removed to see what the rest of the head looks like?

Well my area finally started getting the new black series wave in. I was too late to grab a Mandalorian but already it's pretty clear people in my area don't give a damn about Cal or the Jawa as each store I went to that had any 6" figures had multiples of them. This new Rey is a solid figure but pretty familiar territory since this is her fourth or fifth figure and her look is mostly consistent. Hasbro's use of the face printing method continues to impress but overall this figure is the usual fare. The only really new thing about this figure is D-0 who is an okay little piece. It does come with a tiny stand to help prop D-0 up but since its wheel actually turns it can still be a bit of a trick to keep upright, the "head" and each of the antennae are on ball-joints so there's actually a bit of options to display. |
Grabbed the GOA Kylo. I really like the sculpt on him. I can see myself picking up a specific selection of figures. But I'm not gonna go crazy with this line. I think the Disney Toy Box has more "character" with at least some of the sculpts. I like how some figures have like emotive open hand sculpts and such. Where as here its just your basic c grip to hold accessories. You know what I mean?

^ I teared up watching the final trailer hearing Luke speak with the SW music playing in the background. Speaking of which...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Qn_spdM5Zg Such a great trailer... onscreen Daisy Ridley is so stunning. I'm just gonna pretend The Last Jedi never happened... IDK how Rian Johnson could mess up Luke's character so badly and make a SW movie that is somehow worse than Attack of the Clones and Phantom Menace combined... but he did IMO. Guess it is up to JJ to save SW now. EDITI'm also glad the Falcon has a round Radar dish again, so now I can pretend my 2004 The Original Trilogy Falcon is the current Falcon. |

A lot of people are worried that with JJ at the helm again, it'll be a "remake" of ROTJ the way TFA was ostensibly a "remake" of ANH, and while I do understand that worry since while TFA was great it did mirror ANH a good bit, that is no longer my worry for this movie. There are some locations and elements that look like they might mirror ROTJ a bit, but I do not worry that it'll be just a "remake" of ROTJ. No, my worry at this point is that they seem to be doing just way too much stuff in this one. There seem to be at least like 5 or 6 planets if not more, there's what feels like 5 different story threads, there's so many new kinds of troopers and whatnot... I don't know, I think they'll probably pull it off but I'm worried it'll just be way too packed.

And IMO the The Last Jedi haters are right for once. I saw The Last Jedi only once and absolutely hated it... and never thought about it again except for the few occasions that I was reminded about it like today. The thing about The Last Jedi is there are a lot of reasons to hate it... so a lot of people hate it for different reasons. Although from what I understand... a lot of people seem to have a problem with Rey or whatever... that I disagree with... Rey and Kylo are the best things in the new trilogy IMO. Rose was indeed awful though IMO... her getting harassed was shameful, but she was still awful. |

RJ didn't mess up Luke at ALL. It was a fantastically interesting Luke story. That said I'm really looking forward to 9 because 7 is my second favorite Star Wars film |
^ Okay, I only saw TLJ once, but this is how I see it. IMO no one but Rian Johnson would have turned Luke into the person he was in TLJ... not JJ, not Lucas, not Gareth Edwards and not Ron Howard. IMO Rian Johnson tried way too hard to make a different type of SW film from the one people were expecting. Luke who never lost hope in the good in Vader and was willing to die believing in that goodness suddenly gets scared about his nephew's power? So he creeps up on him in the middle of the night like some pedo uncle... that was such a badly shot scene IMO. Luke became so cynical that he would let the locals die instead of trying to do something just because he didn't want to give them false hope or something. Luke became so afraid that he would kill his own nephew in fear of the future? What in the OT foreshadows Luke becoming like that? IMO OT Luke would always believe in the goodness of people and fight for what is right no matter the odds and would never abandon his friends in need.
But again... I only saw TLJ once... and may be remembering OT Luke with rose colored glasses. |

So apparently Hasbro officially sells Black Series figures through my local Amazon website. I skipped out on them for a long, long time because they were only available for scalper prices around here, but since I got them for retail price I decided to check out a few. Starting with some Mandalorians since they actually had the new guy and the re-release of Boba Fett.
Gotta say - I vastly prefer Boba. Much nicer figure all around, and very impressive for its price class. Yeah the gimmicky-looking tissue he has for a cape is kind of laughable but once posed in the right angle it looks quite nice actually. But the paintjob is impressive, lots and lots of tiny details painted and not too many screw-up’s altogether. And the few he does have blend in rather well with the battle-worn look his armor has going on. The Mandalorian... not bad I guess. He's way too short though. Did the scale change over the years? I know the Boba Fett mold is like 6 years old by now, but it’s still a bit off-putting that the difference is so noticeable. Paintwork is okay, not as many details as Boba but that's most likely due to his design not being as elaborate. I like his weapons, the Proto Boba rifle especially; it gives him a nice presence when holstered. Not too hard to do that either, the peg doesn’t fit even when the belt piece is lined up, but it holds well enough. The plastic cape though - not very good. I hate these. Soft goods would've gone a long way here, and I'm holding out for a Japanese company to do it eventually. Considering the price I paid though? Really not bad all in all. Just wish he was a bit taller really. http://www.toyark.com/attachment.php...1&d=1571751335 |

Dont take this offensively, but being that you only saw TLJ once I think you're completely misremembering that whole scene and by extension misunderstanding it. But before we even get into that lets really think about Luke's character. Luke spent all of ROTJ talking about how he wont kill or even fight his father. When he's brought before the Emperor he refuses to fight him too. He only draws his saber and fights after Palpatine threatens his friends and tells Luke how doomed they all are. This completely enrages Luke and he forgets everything he's been preaching about not fighting and lashes out at the Emperor. The fight begins. After he calms down a bit he stays on the defensive, eventually straight up hiding from them. Then Vader threatens his sister and Luke is enraged again. After preaching about not fighting or killing his dad for the entire film he maims Vader by taking off his hand and almost kills him before he regains control of his anger. So Luke has anger issues and darkness inside of him that triggered by threats to his family and friends. He his this instinctive drive to protect his friends that often gets the better of him and taps into his darkness. Fast forward to TLJ. Luke tells Rey about this darkness he senses in Ben. Luke's worried for and about him. Luke tells Rey he went to Ben's hut that night to CHECK on him. Not to kill him, or threaten him or do anything to him. This is consistent in both Luke's first story and the full truth he tells Rey in the second story. Hey peers into Ben's mind and, in his words, sees the death and destruction of everything and everyone hes ever loved. Because of this Luke has an instinctive reaction to to it (his words again) and draws his lightsaber to protect his friends and family by possibly ending this all right now and then . . . Nothing. Luke has grown as a character. This is character development. He's in far more control of himself and his darkness than he was 30 years ago. He doesn't lash out at Ben in anger or maim him or almost kill him like he did with the Emperor and Vader. Of course Ben wakes up and from his point of view, as we see in his vision, Luke walked in trying to kill him. He's not necessarily wrong from his point of view. Snoke already twisted his mind and he wakes up to his Uncle standing over him with his weapon out. Thats all Ben saw, that's all he knows. When Luke wakes up and goes outside he sees his temple on fire and the dead bodies of all his students, minus the ones Kylo took, in front of him littered across the ground. Theres a LOT of dead bodies. Luke is overcome with the shame and guilt of not being in even more control of his darkness leading to Ben becoming Kylo and all of his students who trusted him to guide them and keep them safe dead in front of him. Ita a very human Luke. It's such a great story. We get to watch Luke climb out of this dark place and become, once again, the hero we know him to be. He literally inspires the galaxy with hope (and shown by broom boy) with his sacrifice at the end. |
