I'mnot counting the black panther wave because even though it'll probably be available in December it's officially a 2019 wave, if I understood that from SDCC.

Archangel 08-13-2018 06:30 PM

Scored Scream and Ham at GameStop. One of the managers didn’t want to hold Scream for me, but I found another store that would. He said something about that one being first come first serve. I screwed up and chased one way out of town when they had it in stock too. Their inventory tracking is a little screwy

I think I’m going to hunt Ock, Cloak, and Electra, then wait for the other figures to tank on Amazon.

The rest of the Cull wave showed up today too.

I also found a guy selling the old All New X-Men box set on Facebook for $50.

To me, the peak of the franchise is The Winter Soldier. No other movie outside of Black Panther has come close to capturing the story telling, the tone, and excitement The Winter Soldier featured. Even Spider-Man Homecoming and Infinity War.

However, if you just mean a general peak, as in where the quality is and how much money it makes, then it is still reaching for the top. There's been a few downward climbs, but the summit continues to rise so the franchise has to climb back upward again.

Frankly, I don't see why people are constantly harping on these movies. If you are tired of them, or don't like them, you simply don't have to go see them. I would rather go see the next MCU film than another generic no name action movie with a Mary Sue character that is supposed to be human. Or hell, when the MCU films cover other generes, it does it better than most genre films.

For example, I just watched a movie called Red Sparrow last night which is hands down one of the worst spy thriller movies of all time, if not the worst (and the worst movie of 2018). They forgot to put the espionage and suspense in the film. Black Panther did the spy thriller theme so much better and it's considered a super hero film.

The "superhero" genre is so broad that it can encompass a wide variety of tones and styles. That's how we can end up with a gritty crime drama like The Punisher and then go onto a sci-fi comedy with Guardians of the Galaxy. Because functionally speaking, there's no difference between something like The Winter Soldier and something like Mission Impossible....the only difference is the main protagonist is Captain America.

I really don't get how people can say they are sick of superhero movies but still tune in for the latest non-superhero action movie, unless they're referring specifically to the hype surrounding. Because how would something John Wick be made any worse if John Wick happened to be a comic book character?

Both of you have my respect. Very well thought out point of views. Marvel Studios set out to tell a grand story, and has done so with different types of films in 10 years. It's because of their quality of filmmaking that I am able to display my own Infinity War...

Because no one else is offering the case of 8 at $165 with free shipping. BBTS wants $155 for only 7 figures plus shipping (not that they have any instock right now either). Entertainment Earth wants $168 AND overpriced shipping for the case of 8. Of course, they also don't have the wave instock. Who else is there to buy from?

Boy Blunder 08-13-2018 10:27 PM

Target?

Also, do you need the case of 8? I mean, all you get is a second Wolverine.

I guess either way, you're gonna have to eat some cost or some time, no matter which route you go. It just seems that waiting on Dorkside is causing you no end of frustration.

I actually think they had a pretty solid lineup for that movie. Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Nightcrawler, Quicksilver, Storm a little bit later on. That makes for a solid X-Men team without Wolverine to take away from their character development.

Then they just shoehorn Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique in there and make her the focal point and she's just not interesting. She literally drags the rest of the cast down with her. And it was so obvious at that point that they needed a leading star after Hugh Jackman's departure and they gave it to JLaw strictly based off of her role as Katniss Everdeen. But it was just so forced.

I'm like the only guy I know who really liked Apocalypse.

I did too! I mean there will always be some affinity for the earlier ones but they're very much a product of thier time. Putting aside how things were in the comics it was the most solid film out of the X-Men movies. DOFP was pretty good too but I really was never a big fan of the X-Men films mto begin with.

DarthKamen 08-14-2018 01:28 AM

Well at least I'm not completely alone on it.

SymbiSpidey 08-14-2018 02:43 AM

Now that I have time to compile my full list:

Top 10 Marvel Legends (Single Releases)

1. Tiger Stripe Wolverine
2. Silver Surfer
3. Cable
4. Mysterio
5. Storm
6. Doc Ock
7. Infinity War Thor (Cull Obsidian wave)
8. Psylocke
9. Walmart Exclusive Comic Thanos
10. Mr. Fantastic

Honorable Mentions: Elektra, Cloak, MCU Red Skull, 90s Deadpool, Spider-Man Noir (mostly because of kitbash potential)

There's still quite a few Legends I'm missing from this year, but I will say absolutely nobody's current position is safe once I get The Thing. I think he'll easily end up being Top 2 or 3.

Best Marvel Legends BAF

Easily Apocalypse, but I will give an honorable mention to Lizard who's largely set back by the lacking knee articulation. I don't have Sauron yet, but it's gonna be tough deciding between him and Apocalypse for me.

Best Marvel Legends Boxset/2-pack

I'm ultimately gonna go with the Ant-Man and Yellowjacket 2-pack. I'm heavily biased because Yellowjacket is probably one of my overall favorite MCU designs and it translated into an excellent figure. And the update to the OG Ant-Man figure is great as well. Honorable mentions to the Cap/Crossbones set and Vision/Scarlet Witch set for some fantastic MCU likenesses. Still missing a few sets from this year, but I'm thoroughly impressed with what I already have.

Top 5 Worst (since it makes more sense to do it with this post than separately

1. Sp//dr
2. Spider-Ham
3. House of M Spidey
4. Magneto
5. X-Men Deadpool

None of these are bad, I just have no real attachment to them in any way compared to the other stuff we got this year, either due to oversaturation of character or costume choice. Spider-Ham's the only one that makes the list based purely on its merits as a figure, since it isn't worth $20.

Top 5 Most Wanted
1. Classic Dr. Doom
2. 90s Jubilee
3. 90s Beast
4. Classic Thor
5. Classic Nightcrawler

Hasbro's been thoroughly knocking down my most wanted list year after year after year so I'm hoping for more good things to come next year.

Top 5 Most Anticipated (trying to only include stuff that's been fully revealed

1. Professor X w/ hoverchair
2. Gambit
3. M'Baku
4. Kingpin
5. Klaue

Honorable Mentions are gonna go to Tactical Killmonger, T'Chaka, Silver Sable Vintage Ant-Man and Vision, all of whom just barely missed the Top 5.

MeLikeJinx 08-14-2018 04:14 AM

My main problem with the Apocalypse movie was that Magneto's story arc was just way to unconvincing... like they made him suffer again just to make him a bad guy again... then only for him to be a good guy again at the end for like no reason... so dumb... the whole movie collapses because you don't believe in his motivations for anything anymore even though Fassbender gave a solid Magneto performance again IMO. Also Apocalypse is like zero percent intimidating in the movie.

Well I have gotten a few figures from Target, but it does me no good if they don't have the entire set. Plus, I need to get a replacement Storm since mine is vastly defective and my Gladiator has massive paint issues, so I want a replacement of him too. If I can find the other 3 figures and a replacement Storm, then of course I will cancel my order with Dorkside.

As for a second Wolverine, yes, I want one so I can switch the belts with the Juggernaut wave one so I can have a yellow and brown one with the Jim lee X belt and a yellow and brown one with the Cockrum/Byrne belt.

faelon 08-14-2018 07:57 AM

Woohoo! Walked into a Target to kill a few minutes before a meeting and found the last 4 Apocalypse Wave figs I needed Storm, Psylocke, Madrox and Guardian.

I liked it also X, but I do agree with the Jlaw part,,they never should have made her into the “leader”.

Boy Blunder 08-14-2018 09:36 AM

I'm not gonna weigh in on the 'best/worst of 2018' list until we get to the end of the year. I mean, there's some clear winners already (Punk Storm is definitely in the Top Ten, and Apocalypse will likely be the best BAF, though Sauron will fight him for that once I complete him), but we still don't have all the figures that are being released this year, and I don't want to be presumptuous :D

Augustus_Cole 08-14-2018 09:40 AM

I disliked the X-Men Apocalypse movie SOOOOOOOOO much.
SO much was wrong with it. I actually don't think I cared for ANYTHING in that movie. On on paper (and subsequently the big screen) that movie should have been EVERYTHING!!!
I don't even want to talk about it, nor did I ever want to see it again.

************************************************** ***************************

I'm hearing no mention of the Cull Obsidion BAF. I though that was done very well, though still not the best.
