And FYI, Iceman has been gay in the comics for a while now. Every since the young x-men were pulled into the future (the All New X-men comic) years ago. His younger self came out and then the older Bobby realized he was hiding the whole time. The current Iceman comic is exploring the whole concept.

I'm going to actually be lazy and just do one top 10 list for this year for my top 10 figures overall. There were a lot of great figures and a few misses so this is actually kind of difficult past the top 5.

10. Songbird - For one of the "brand new" characters I was excited for the figure was really great, but the accessory was just okay. Her face is decent but I'm really glad to have her finally done.
9. Mr. Fantastic - Pretty basic design but so on point for what Reed Richards should be.
8. Punk Storm - Yay a Storm figure! Even if it wasn't one of the two outfits I would have chosen, this is still a really great figure.
7. X-23 (Sasquatch wave) - Bonus award for most improved over the Toy Biz version.
6. All New Wolverine - I can't think of a time a character has made my list twice in one year, but given it's two different code names, it's okay. This is a really well designed figure and between this and the new X-23 I don't think I ever need a new Laura Kinney figure.
5. Thing - I don't even have this figure yet, but I can tell it's going to be awesome, by pictures and reviews of those who do have it. In hand he might rank higher but I think 5 for a figure I haven't even gotten yet is fair.
4. Apocalypse - really great figure though I still prefer the Toy Biz giant version, but infinitely better than pre-diet plan single carded toy biz version. Don't need another Apocalypse figure ever I think.
3. Madrox. Maybe sort of a bland figure but I'm putting him up this high because I was really wanting Madrox to get done. So more a placement for "finally!" than the actual quality of the figure.
2. Psylocke. So much better than her Toy Biz version (though not as good as an improve over the Toy Biz as X-23). I will definitely want more Psylockes, but for her iconic Jim Lee figure I'm very happy.
1. drum roll........SAURON. I can't believe that it wasn't until NYTF we even knew this wave was coming. And I thought he looked great, but it wasn't until I got him in hand that I saw how amazing he is. Yeah he was my most wanted BAF but the figure is just awesome. I don't think I've ever placed a BAF as my #1 figure for the year, but I can't not in this case. I can't wait to have a place to display. So many poses potential. Kudos Hasbro, this is your best BAF ever. I challenge you to make a better BAF!

Honorable mentions to Cull Obsidian's wave Thor and Black Knight, as well as Bishop.

ilikeguitars 08-14-2018 11:07 AM

Anyone know how the Sauron wave has been so far in regards to paint apps and quality?

SO much was wrong with it. I actually don't think I cared for ANYTHING in that movie. On on paper (and subsequently the big screen) that movie should have been EVERYTHING!!!
I don't even want to talk about it, nor did I ever want to see it again.

I'm hearing no mention of the Cull Obsidion BAF. I though that was done very well, though still not the best.

Days of Future Past would’ve been the perfect ending for those characters in that universe. They could’ve still done Logan, but the main story should’ve ended with DOFP, which I consider to be one of the best comic book films ever done. Full disclosure, that movie frightens me to a point of no return. The horror of being a mutant, very slim hope, and the future Sentinels.

I also count DOFP among the top comic movies ever. loved that one so much- was super excited for the follow-up... and then... BAM! Apocalypse was sooooo bad. There were some good bits in it- but after DOFP it was just such a disaster (Magneto's family being killed stands out to me as one of the worst moments ever seen in a comic movie- lol)

I disliked many many many things about APOCALYPSE...and I pray Dark Phoenix will be better (but I've got a bad feelin about it)

I would have liked to have seen real evil horsemen and the extra heroes of Storm, PSYLOCKE and Magneto recruited to defeat them.

The wolverine part was just an excuse to throw blood on the wall.

I like the younger heroes being cast but I'm ok with Fox/Disney scrapping the whole thing and starting fresh. We need a new Wolverine! He does not have to be the center which everything revolves around...but the X-men without he and Storm are kind of bland.

Putting aside how things were in the comics it was the most solid film out of the X-Men movies. DOFP was pretty good too but I really was never a big fan of the X-Men films mto begin with.

I agree about the original X-Men movies. The first one in particular has not stood the test of time well. I also prefer the younger actors for the most part. And I appreciate Apocalypse as a villain, and for how different he was from the other villains. I also loved the 80's vibe and I really loved how Moira McTaggert was brought back from First Class. Wolverine's cameo was amazing. And I love that we got to see them in their real costumes at the end, even if it was only briefly. I've been waiting to see everyone in those outfits my whole life!

I thought that was one of the best scenes in the film....

CAN YOU IMAGINE AN MCU APOCALYPSE DONE PROPERLY!!!!!!!!!
basically the mutant's Thanos...

Boy Blunder 08-14-2018 01:51 PM

It'll never happen.

Just two hours of T-O-A-D.

Captain Nash 08-14-2018 01:55 PM

XM:A isn't all that bad. It just isn't all that good either. It's not like The Last Stand. I think they bungled every storyline they tried to cram into that movie. The only good scenes were the scenes in the Grey house and Magneto moving the Golden Gate Bridge. On the other hand, it does have my favorite soundtrack of all of the movies. The Phoenix theme is pretty awesome. I just wish the rest of the movie could have been awesome too. And let's not even get started on Faux-Psylocke.

Man that’s exactly what I said. It should have been the x-men universe’s Infinity War. But it turned out to be their iron man 3. Not terrible but definitely not good. It’s just there. It had some really good scenes others not so much.
All I’m hoping from the Disney buying fox is. Some great Mcu fantastic four and X-men movies. And some badass Mcu x men figures haha

MCU X-Men figures would be cool. What I love about the MCU movies they proved that movies with people dressed in actual superhero outfits (rather than just leather jackets and black spandex and whatever they thought that thing Jean was wearing in TLS was) could be done and done well. Granted they took a few liberties but man, much as I like the X-Men movies, their outfits were distinctly lacking. The only other character in an actual superhero outfit who didn't come across as campy (at times anyways) before the MCU was Batman. Joel Schumaker movies and Batnipplegate aside.

Hey. Crapfest that it was, don't sell those actors short. Given better scripts and direction, a lot of those actors have proven their chops in other projects.

Honestly, as long as they keep The Gifted going, they can do whatever with the movies post-transition. The Gifted has the best "mutants are hated and feared" vibe in any X-Men adaptation ever, hands down.

I only have Laura and Omega Red so far, but no complaints here in that regard.

I didn't hate it, but it was somehow far less than the sum of its parts. Like you have to work at taking inspiration from a mythology that rich and create something so uninspired. I'm almost impressed by how bland it is.
The standard has been elevated after several years of these things, and you can't just put comic book characters on a screen and expect us to be impressed any more. People have to be able to connect with it. This is something the MCU is mindful of and has largely tried to cultivate, and owes much of its success to.

Spyne98 08-14-2018 03:57 PM

I ordered a Silver Surfer from Walgreens and he arrived today. I like him, the board is a bit thin, but its not awful. The interchangeable hands are great for various posing. Here’s hoping for some other cosmic characters soon!

Nice! She's the next figure on my current list to pick-up. I've seen some shots of the alt. head on the X-force version, and it looked really good.

It does. The alt head looks a little off (at least to me) on the Wolverine body, but it's now my default head for her X-Force figure.
