I watched The Thing last night and tonight I'm thinking Alien. AMC has been playing the Halloween and Friday movies from what I've been watching all month, I already watched Texas Chainsaw Massacre earlier in the month with a friend (it was his first time, I get the impression he liked it), and Nightmare on Elm Street just doesn't feel right at this time. I didn't even play Silent Hill 2 this year, the past couple of years I made an effort to do so. Maybe I'm just too crapped out from everything else right now.

En, I notice the day after you mentioned that AMC wasn't putting Halloween III in it's marathons they re arranged the line ups to include it. it's odd though that they played all of the original Halloween continuity except H2O. not my favorite, but I like my marathons in order.

Like most franchises,everything after II is unwatchable.

I liked part 6, "Ant Man Vs Michael Myers". plus the abrupt ending due to Donald Pleasants passing.

Except for 3 and 4, especially 3, which is amazing. Great cinematography, atmosphere, music, and mood.

Same thing with the Friday The 13th franchise. While a product of hokey 80's 3D, part 3 was when the series really started to get into full swing, while part 4 (The Final Chapter) hit it right out of the park, and is still one of the best slasher films of all time to this very day.

The Nightmare on Elm Street series was the same way as well. Part 2 was mostly forgettable, but man were parts 3 and 4 good...

i wasn't a fan of how they changed his hand, but i thought it was a pretty cool movie.

i'm not the biggest horror fan, but i definitely enjoyed that one, i really liked the premise.

Hail to the king baby! Ash Vs Evil Dead was great, especially as a big fan of the films. It definitely made good use of its TV-MA rating and I feel like it couldn't be done on any other channel (except for another premium channel like HBO which also would have given it a bigger budget but Starz works well). My only nitpick is that some of the CGI they used looked off (too blatantly easy to point out) especially when there were some good ol' practical effects at play too, but it didn't hurt the overall episode. Spartacus was another show on Starz where season 1 had some poor CGI effects compared to other shows but then it got a lot better as the show continued and they got more attention/budget so hopefully AVED will either get better CGI later or continue to use practical effects more often. There was a notable lack of acknowledging Army of Darkness which felt weird, when he recounts his tale to another character he goes over the first two films with the cabin and all of his friends dying but neglects to share about that time he got sent back into medieval times and had to fight an army of skeletons and an evil version of himself. It just seems like something he would've mentioned. Maybe there's a legal reason behind this but story-wise it feels weird. Overall there was gore, a small jump scare here or there, and of course goofy/ridiculously implausible moments of badass fighting, I'd give episode 1 "El Jefe" a 9/10.

It Follows - A nice little way to celebrate the day after Halloween. This movie was actually really well done. There was a lot of suspense build up, the jump scares were done right and were not over done, the acting was pretty good, the music was f'ing awesome and fit with the tone, and I love a lot of the camera work. I'm really impressed. The only negatives is that the ending was abrupt and the movie was kind of about 10 minutes longer than it should have. Nevertheless, a really solid movie overall and probably the best horror movie released this year. I'm giving it an 8/10.

Friday the 13th part 6 is the last one in its franchise that I can throw any appreciation at, and even then it's not too much. It introduced super-zombie Jason, which I like because it fully embraces his condition. Visually it never made much sense that his body was so well composed considering how he died and how long he had been dead prior to his resurrection. Part 6 also felt like the first Friday movie to embrace being a cheap sequel as Jason's kills got a little bit more inventive and things were done very tongue-in-cheek. He smashes a girl's face into the side of an RV and it actually makes her face indentation on the other side :D That shit was funny.

I actually don't mind 7 and 8. In fact, I do enjoy the 7th one quite a bit. Manhattan depends. It's an enjoyable good bad way. Plus, I'll take it over any of the movies that came after. I don't know why, but it seems like all of the 80s slasher movies took a major turn to crap once the 90s hit. Not to mention some of them suffered a change in studio, which didn't help matters.

I love every film in the franchise, except Jason X. I'm not blind the faults in the series though. The Friday the 13th franchise is the focus of my collection.

I think X is a point better than Goes to Hell because at least it isn't boring.

goes to hell was the worse, because of the weird "Jason is a demon" premise out of the blue, plus most of the time he was possessing people, then when he "possesses" his dead long lost sister (a bit too soap opera for me) he's all of a sudden Jason again torn clothes, old wounds hockey mask and all. just poof no explanation? and there is an ancient dagger to kill a mutant zombie rage machine that was born in the 50's? it just made no since. A do agree though, when your franchise has gotten to the point where you have to go into a sci-fi future for stories (I'm looking at you Leprechaun) you should either re-boot, or shut it down for a decade or so.

So we watched the first episode to the Evil Dead tv show and I found it to be mediocre. It had some funny bits, and some good horror moments, but overall, it is just trying to rehash the same jokes over without the spark that made them funny in the first place. The CGI is down right terrible and there is way too much of it. The effects in the original Evil Dead look far superior. Overall, meh, unless you worship everything with the near mention of Bruce Campbell and must see this, there's not point in really going out of your way to watch it. Hopefully it gets better quickly, but right now, I'm not sure I even want to watch the next episode.

They didn't want to use so much CGI but there are time restrictions with television that didn't exist with film, and he CGI bits were not that bad. The doll was a little dumb, but other than I had no problems with the premier. I thought it was great and captured the fleeing of Evil Dead 2 while still being modern. I'll be watching every episode.

Jason Goes To Hell never seemed confusing to me. I understood it as a kid, and while it's definitely 11/12 on the list, I can rewatch it without a sour taste being left, where Jason X I can't even have fun with.

Actually, I was referring more to the CGI blood. There is no need to waste money with CGI blood when you can go to a dollar store and buy fake blood. Not to mention it is cheaper.

Yeah the CGI was terrible, but it didn't take anything away IMO. I liked all the make-up it seriously looked very Evil Dead-ish. I like that they are "remaking" something with today's technology, but following through with what made them stand out back in the day. I especially like that the "badguys" were on screen. So many horror stories these days leave too much to the imagination and most of the time badguys are in the movies/show for less than 5 seconds.

I also felt like the comedy and jokes were rightfully placed as well, it is meant to be campy so if the CGI is bad to overshow a river of blood flowing from someones head it felt like it was intentional, more than bad CGI if that makes any sense.

As I previously noted, Starz's previous big show (Spartacus) also had pretty weak and abundant CGI blood early in the show but it got a lot better as the show progressed and the budget seemed to increase. Bad CGI or no, I'm sticking with AvED all the way.

If you have seen the Leprechaun reboot (Leprechaun: Origins, which was produced by WWE pictures and starred their own leprechaun Hornswaggle) you might rethink that statement, or at least be careful with the word reboot. That movie was AWFUL, bore no similarities to any of the original films (with the exception of the line "F U Lucky Charms..."), and before the argument comes up, yes...it was proclaimed by both WWE pictures and the director to be a legitimate reboot to the series...

As a huge Friday the 13th fan, I can say with confidence that Jason Goes To Hell was definitely a black eye to the series, especially due to all the mystical and magical elements they added to the series. In it's defense though, t's been long known that the reason that they decided to go supernatural with Jason's story was because the movie was the first under New Line Cinema, who had just acquired the rights at the time, and that it was initially just supposed to be a 90 minute set-up (or excuse) for his eventual fight with Freddy, which got stuck in production hell for over 10 years because they simply couldn't come up with a story that worked.
