Everyone keeps talking about a BAF Beast, but there were people saying Apocalypse should not have been a BAF. If Apocalypse was not worthy of being one, then Beast sure as hell isn't.

Augustus_Cole 08-22-2018 11:44 AM

is the SDCC Red Skull and the 10th anniversary Skull heads the same??

Are they? I think Triv did a side-by-side of them, and there were some minor differences?

Tim 08-22-2018 12:11 PM

I could have sworn it was just the same head. I definitely could be wrong(wouldn’t be the first time haha) I debated on buying that $60 set but talked myself out of it. Especially considering how much great legend figures are coming out later this year

Augustus_Cole 08-22-2018 12:13 PM

i want it but i don't want that life sized tesseract..
i just want the skull...
anyone want JUST the tesseract??

Man. I'm not gonna lie. If they made Beast a BAF for no reason, I would seriously reconsider buying Marvel Legends.

Apocalypse is one thing, even though the scale was super disappointing. Its still a larger fig. Can understand why. Not sure why they do these standard sized BAFs. Makes no sense.

That’s the truth. I’m buying that entire wave just to get M’Baku.

On most figures, the shoulder and thigh swivel joints (common assembly points on a BAF) weren't designed to be assembled or disassembled by someone at home. So rather than retool an old figure mold to make it a BAF, Hasbro will use a new figure in the wave as a BAF. It's what Hasbro did for the second GOTG Vol. 2 wave. Most people thought that Ex Nihilo should have been the BAF instead of Mantis since he was bigger and less desirable. But Mantis was an all new figure and could be tooled so that the joints could be easily assembled.

VashTS 08-22-2018 01:27 PM

Most likely Beast BAF will use the Sasquatch body and be a repaint of have slightly different lower torso/legs or be on that simply Jackal body.

Not a fan but I will probably buy the Select and avoid the whole Build a Beast if it comes to that.

Doubtful. Jackal is more likely, but if they're going with bulky 90s-style Beast (which seems the likeliest, if they're finishing off a JL-style lineup), he'll be a new mold in the ballpark of the Hyperion body, or even the Omega Red body. Either way, they would likely find ways to get the mileage out of a new body mold without making him a BAF.

The Tesseract is actually a pretty dope piece in hand. The only thing I don't like about it is that you have to open the whole cube up in order to turn it on. Once on though, it's pretty mesmerizing to look at in a strange and satisfying way.

The head sculpts for the SDCC Red Skull and the 10th anniversary Skull are indeed the same, but, like the Iron Skull and the Mandroid wave Skull, they have a slightly different deco. The SDCC Skull has a bit of a darker wash. It's hard to tell in photos, but in hand, it's much more noticeable.

In this picture, both figures are wearing their original head sculpts, but I actually prefer the lighter shading on the 10th anniversary Skull, and it's the one I actually display on the SDCC version.

Also, I forgot to mention when I covered the 10th anniversary Skull a while back, but you can do this with the figure if you want as well.

Speaking of mods, was finally able to get around and make some things. Really happy how both came out.

Found out today that the hands for the Cull Obsidion BW works with the older Widow figures as well, so there's that also.

All this talk of a new Beast figure and I'm over here like "I want one too! And then a Dark Beast repaint... please."

Ended up deciding against it, mostly because I wouldn't have had the time to get into a debate about it anyway. Wonder if it would have worked, though. Hopefully I'll find him again, either way.

I found a Prowler figure with the B-A-F part stolen and pointed it out to the Dept. Manager at a local Wal-Mart. I showed him another figure from the wave and told him about the B-A-F gimmick and how people steal parts like that sometimes. He marked it down to $13 right then and I bought it.

Thanks Sir for the warm words!

Scar Jo's hairstyle in Winter Soldier was my favorite out of all of her dos in a landslide, but I hated the fact that it was only featured on that "good at the time, now hideous" head. It was a bit tricky to get it exactly the way I want it. The hair piece looked a bit large on top when I first placed it, so I sanded it down a bit, and repainted the whole thing to a more screen accurate color and gave it a wash. The bangs sit a little bit further out than I would like, but it's one of those things that is like most action figures, it only looks that way from certain angles. The best part is I can use it on either the new, Obsidion based body, or the original Mandroid figure without having to dremel or mod any further.

The Iron Spidey mod was pretty easy as well. I was lucky enough to find the basic Iron Spidey figure recently, and once you figure out where you want it to sit, it's very simple to get it done. The legs are a little short, and the backpack is unfortunately a part of it, but it beats having to buy another Iron Spidey figure down the line when (or if) Hasbro decides to double dip and give us a completed version.

I definitely agree with the way she looked in Winter soldier that’s probably my favorite as well with a Avengers a close second. Well anyway that work definitely paid off. I’m gonna try my hand at the Iron Spider man mod. That seems like something I could do. The Black Widow hair I’d either be too afraid to try or not qualified enough to pull off haha. I can see me screwing it up and being out a BW fig. The hair doesn’t seem to sit hight at all as far as I can tell. Looks excellent like I said already.
