At the same time, i think marvel might be telling them which characters/costumes to do figures of (likely to promote their own books), which is how we end up with stuff like the red goblin instead of the classic thor and loki everybody's been asking for for years.

I guess my beef with some of the modern figures we get is that those looks really don't last long. By the time we actually get the figure, the character is either dead or in a different look, rendering them obsolete in a collection. (Incidentally, Walgreens doesn't always get the same case layouts, according to the manager in charge of toys at our Walgreens - sometimes it will be a standard wave case, sometimes it'll be a random assortment of figures, which is why a lot of Walgreens suddenly started getting figures from the Abomination wave, but mostly just multiples of Wonder Man and Captain Britain, rather than the whole wave)
