Starlord67: Get my PM Bro?

So many figures...I haven't been able to keep up. Here's some in hand thoughts on the recent Walgreens Exclusives...Thing and Magik.
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1925/...d60bf2_k_d.jpg Thing: I'm not going to say anything that hasn't been said before, so I'll keep my thoughts here short and concise. This is the definitive version of Ben Grimm. You'd be hard pressed to find anything better out there that's not a custom, and even then, good luck. Good articulation, great sculpt, good pack-ins with the extra hands and head sculpt, and some really good color choices. It's hard to find a flaw with him, because mine was nearly perfect out of the box. He might be my favorite Walgreens exclusive yet, just barely beating out Magik (yes...she's that good...you'll see why.) It's great to finally have a Fantastic Four that's as fun to look at as they are to play with, and while it's a long time coming, it's been completely satisfying. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1966/...015a54_k_d.jpg Magik: I'll get this out of the way...I know little to NOTHING about this character outside of her sibling relationship to Colossus. Trying to read a wiki on her made my head hurt. That said, this figure is AMAZING, and I really wish that Legends would use this as their template moving forward. Magik is well painted, well sculpted, and comes with the most accessories we've seen a figure come with since Juggernaut wave DP. While most of the accessories are re-hashes from other figures, they give you so many options for messing around with this figure, as well as providing others with options as well. The flaming skull head fits perfectly on Ghost Rider, and looks really cool in doing so. The little dragon looks great with Kitty as a compliment to Lockheed, and can perch on her as well. The lightning effects look great in dark blue and can be used with a variety of figures, and Magik's swords are also really well done, with one of them having a nice blue blade to match the flame effect (most recently seen with Typhoid Mary.) And of course, you don't need to share, you can just use them all for Magik if you'd like. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1920/...ba7381_k_d.jpg https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1963/...e2fdf5_k_d.jpg Even if you know nothing about the character, Magik is worth the pick up for the accessories alone. Congrats to those of you who held out on the scalper bait from picking her up from the Book of Vishanti. I really feel like Hasbro did this one for you. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1934/...bf1872_h_d.jpg |

Ugggggghhhhh I want Magik so bad. I once drunkenly bid $100 on EBay for the SDCC version and thank God I didn’t win the auction. While this version is superior I still want the head with no pupils.

The overuse of the term "pandering" in recent times is something that kinda bothers me, because 9 times out of 10 it's used any time a minority superhero gets an extra push from their publisher.
There's certainly good and bad ways to incorporate more diversity into comic books, but I think characters like Kamala Khan and Miles Morales are the absolute best examples of implementing more diversity into comic books. They're genuinely well-written, fun characters that don't take anything away from the characters whose mantles they borrow. I like that there's a teenage version of Spidey that coexists with the more mature Peter Parker as his big bro/mentor while still being his own person, and I like that he's a black/hispanic character. I showed my 10-year old sister that there's a young, female, muslim superhero running around in the comics that's not only an Avenger, but also insanely popular with readers and she absolutely loved it, and that's ultimately what matters. As long as it's not harming anybody, I don't see the problem. |

Seeing my once beloved Marvel Comics pander and then attack their fans is very disturbing. I theorize(based on observations) what happened was, people started being hired for their race and gender. Some of the ventures I had in media, companies would NEVER hire the best. They went after the people who filled a quota. These people inevitably ended up in human resources, as companies realized they were terrible at the "STEM" areas, and started hiring people who were like them. Scary part is, the people with the lower IQ's in any field, all seem to form clicks and groups, and that is how they keep their power. This started around 2008-10 and by 2012, it was nutty people infiltrating organizations and hiring people not based on merit, but for ideology or some mandated quota by the government. This is what has happened to comics sadly and it just doesn't sell. I have no idea how companies can pass up money. You don't get wealthy without capitalism. Capitalism is the greatest concept ever. |

That is the weirdest rant on a toy website I have ever seen.
|
Whenever I read a rant like that I can’t help but picture someone doing a full on heel turn. I mean really sit back, and imagine ANY WWE Superstar shoot that promo. LOL

Must admit, the Walgreens Magik having what looks like the Soul Reaver is pretty awesome.
https://i0.wp.com/thefwoosh.com/wp-c...9/Magik-23.jpg I guess if I came across her during a Walgreens sale I would pick her up. |
