That $7.77 price tag at Wally World is tempting me to pick up another set of toon Turtles to keep MOSC, must...resist....urge....

trebleshot 08-20-2012 08:48 AM

Walmart's pricing is making me reconsider stopping at the 4 turtles, but I need to get the Shellraiser before anything else. The bros gotta have their ride.

Shredder is worth 7.77. Maybe Footsoldier depending on how forgiving you are on articulation. I'd still be hesitant on Krang, April and Splinter.

I'd agree if he had knees. *sigh*

Yeah, you do. I actually JUST picked it up at Target. They seem like $20 clearance material to me, but every single time I'd step into a Target I'd go pick one up and almost get it. I always wanted the Party Van when I was a kid and never got it, so the 5th grader in me needed to own this.

..and I just took the Bane MM and Retaliation Zartan figures I bought a while ago and lost receipts for, that were in my sales/trade for less than cost, back and cashed them in for credit. So it kinda only cost me about $3 (not really.. just using money I already gave Target, but that's what I like to tell myself).

I'll probably pick it up from Walmart to save a few bucks, but it's on the must-buy-eventually list.

Heh, I do that a lot too. ;)

I finally found them. Picked up the toon turtles for my birthday, and picked up kraang and april not too long after that.
And the Classics Donatello after that.

The turtles are absolutely awesome. April is good, and the only fault Kraang has is the preposed sculpt means he can't stand on his own. No knees or elbows, I can live with. Preposes are the devil's work.
Kraang himself though is worth the cost. Icky squishy fun!

Classics turtles... I think Don will be my only one. These didn't sit right with me when we first saw them, and I'd hoped that would change. But to me they're worse in person. I just do not like them. Especially their headsculpts (They have bug eyes. It's horrible).

So, mainline is a win. Definately want the shellraiser, and maybe the turtlebike. Classics falls flat.

I'm not totally defending the Kraang figure as the lack of articulation and partial walking stance really bugs me, but I've had mine for almost a month and he hasn't tipped over even once and I live in an area where trains shake my apartment at least a couple dozen times a day.

Really? I can't even get mine to stand no matter what I do. Even leaning against something stable, it always seems to end up slipping or falling.

Well that's odd. Maybe I have his arms positioned for better balance.

edit: Check my pic in post #443, that's how mine has been posed since day 1, and while it looks like it at the angle the pic was taken he doesn't touch the wall at all.

Crazy Jetty 08-27-2012 12:01 PM

I believed you completely. After a long time of tinkering I just gave up on mine.

trebleshot 08-27-2012 12:11 PM

Picked up the Shellraiser over the weekend at Target (which had it marked for $29.99 instead of the usual $32.99). Fun toy and definitely recommended. The gimmicks are nice and it doubles as a carrying case for your figures. I haven't tried, but I think I could get the entire first wave to fit in there. I know the Turtles, April and Splinter would definitely fit with ease, so that only leaves Kraang, Shredder and a Foot Soldier. Hmmm, I feel an eye twitch....

Oh, and I've also thought about getting Shredder at Walmart but every one I've seen so far has f'd up eyes, like Sloth in Goonies, or a broken helmet.

Hey guys, I posted these on the TFW2005 thread but figured there might be some people that would like to get a look at the custom chains I did:

http://i49.tinypic.com/2vxhv09.jpg

You want 4mm X 8mm screw bails like this: 100 Craft Jewelry Silver Toned Screw Eye Connector/ Bail Eyelet Extender Finding | eBay

And some 4mm wide steel chain like this:2-5mm 12-36" Silver Tone Men's Stainless Steel Necklace O Chain US520616 | eBay

Then all you have to do is get a very small drill bit. You can get a set made by Dremel that contains a VERY thin bit that I used. Just slightly smaller than the diameter of the screw threads on the bail. Drill in, then thread the bail in. I also took the bail back out so I could sand and sort of buff the plastic so you can't see where I cut the chain off. Pretty easy. This plastic is kinda waxy and actually sands pretty easy. 320 grit followed by 600 grit and literally used my t-shirt to buff the plastic smooth. then I put the bails back in and it looks pretty much factory.

For Michelangelo's kusari-gama I originally put a matching 25 links on the chain like the toy but 35 works better I think. I also stepped his chucks up to seven links instead of five. Works better. Did Donnie's three piece bo with new chains as well and replaced the blade on his bladed bo with a spare short blade I took off of one of Leo's short swords. It was a spare because I accidentally made a white stress mark at the base of the blade when I was trying to take it out of the package.

Anyway, there's the mod guys. Spread the word for an easy chain upgrade to your weapons. ^_^

I got my orders from eBay today, and sat down and added the chains! :)

Thank you so much for helping us out here!

lanternjv37 08-27-2012 07:54 PM

ugggh your michaelangelo looks sooo sick with the metal link chains!!!!

Exodus 08-27-2012 08:27 PM

I actually broke down and got these, pretty slick figures, did get the classics at first from Amazon, but when I saw that they were kind of Legend size had to return them:p

TheDub 08-27-2012 08:41 PM

If I had any customizing skills I would totally do that.

behindthemask 08-27-2012 09:20 PM

I also plan on modifying the chains, and have though about getting sheet metal and forming actual steel blades for the katanas.

Optimus Vader 08-29-2012 08:59 AM

The Classics are slowly going up on Amazon (Leo is like $26 before shipping today on Amazon). I wonder if these were a small run. I haven't seen any Classics restocks at my TRU's who got them in.

I've haven't seen the Classics in my stores at all nor have I even seen tags for them.

trebleshot 08-29-2012 12:30 PM

I saw them briefly at one (and only one) TRU and decided they weren't for me. I much rather prefer the classic comic look and the modern take on that over the 90's toon version.

Not to say the Classics toys are bad figures, though. Just not my cup of tea anymore.

Same here.

For the chain part, how do you connect the chain to the screw bail piece? Do you bend it and then bend it back?

MegaPrime33 08-30-2012 03:54 AM

I've been to a few Targets and haven't seen the classics at all. WIll be checking TRU tomorrow, finally, and maybe I'll get lucky.

lanternjv37 08-30-2012 05:46 AM

how much would it be if i were to ask someone to customize the chains on michaelangelo's weapons...LOL

Optimus Vader 08-30-2012 07:10 AM

The only store I've seen actually have the Classics is TRU. All TRU's by me got a case within about a week of each other (which was about two weeks after the modern versions hit), which has four full sets in it. The entire case was bought by one guy, the day they came in, at my closest TRU (associates told me so when I saw the empty display box), but all of the other stores were fine. They all moved within a week or two, but they were easily available. They've all been gone for a few weeks now though, which makes me wonder if they'll be getting more. Since they were obviously a big success I'd imagine Playmates wants to get more out there, but I don't know anything about running a toy making factory, so who knows.

Even though the Classics were sold on Target.com, I've never seen them in any Target store (there's about 5 I check). Hopefully TRU will get another shipment soon because they're awesome.

evilanimation 08-30-2012 07:36 AM

Ya classic were at my TRU once and then they were gone, I am sad to say that the new line are already peg warming, but lets hope its because the show just started.
