It was a good enough premise. I thought it made perfect sense. Freddy gains his strength from people fearing him in the real world, and used Jason do it. It's as he says all the time, "you got the body, and I got the brain."

Now some of the other script ideas they came out with, well let's just say that if you read or heard descriptions of any of them, you would be super grateful with what they eventually gave us...trust me. Lol.

I think the story was forced. they should have done a young Jason being tormented by freddy thus damaging his psyche and making the twisted guy we know and love. in stead we got a series of WWE style brawls between an old big guy, and a skinny old guy. assisted by over the top plod devices like the famous flying oxygen containers. not to mention, Jason's afraid to drown!?! since when? he chills in the water half the time, he gets submerged at the end of half his movies, and comes back! but now he's afraid to drown? I wish they played the long game and set it up for sequels, other than a 90min psychological thriller of Jason and Freddy's head sitting in Jason's cabin talking about life and working through there issues.

I'd have to respectfully disagree about that idea. Jason's anger stems from the bullying he took as a child from his peers, as well as the eventual murder of his mother by those same peers. Freddy's reign of terror was always isolated to the area he resided, hence his nickname "The Springwood Slasher." Camp Crystal Lake has had two different locations in the movies depending on which one you are watching (due to a bit of missed continuity,) New Jersey (where the first one was filmed), and in Connecticut (where the second one was filmed.) so it wouldn't make sense to have Jason being tormented by Freddy as a child, and made for a better plot device for Freddy to dive into that part of Jason's psyche later in the movie.

As for Jason's sudden fear of water, I don't honestly think Jason was ever afraid of water in the movie. He's undead, can never truly die as his "mother" tells him in the beginning, and he knows it. I think the "fear" Jason experiences is something that is repressed on more of a subconscious level, and comes and goes when he comes into contact with an emotional trigger, the way that many people who suffer from a traumatic experience (such as a victim of rape or molestation, or someone suffering from PTSD.) Many function regularly in day to day society, without a memory, however certain sequence of events or contacts with objects can just as easily bring those repressed fears to the forefront.

Now if you mean "forced" as the scenes being written to simply lead us from one encounter to the next, then I cannot argue with that. But that's 90 percent of the slasher genre to begin with. We're there to see bloody kills, and in this case, Freddy and Jason duke it out. However, as far as the story goes in a logical sense, I thought it was alright, as it clearly explained Freddy and Jason's intentions, and how we got there was simple enough and didn't require a 60 minute origin explanation like many movies tend to give us.

Now the torpedo oxygen tank thing was silly, but we've gotten sillier things from both franchises...including Freddy killing someone with a "power glove" and Jason smashing someone repeatedly against a tree while they're in a sleeping bag.

As for sequels, I still think it's possible...but I hope it never happens. Once is enough, and you know that the next time around, they are just going to try to up the ante by making a sort of "Destroy All Monsters" Godzilla type of movie, where it will be the Predator, Chuckie, Ghostface, Ash, Pinhead, that thing from "The Relic", Pumpkinhead, the dolls from "Puppet Master", the Ghoulies, the Gremlins, the Critters, the Spinosaurus, and the ghosts from "Paranormal Activity" all taking on Freddy and Jason.

Another issue with JGTH is that it doesn't make sense. Manhattan ends with Jason being turned back into a child by the magic slime. How does he get back to Crystal Lake and as a grown adult?

That would be the Kothoga. I actually liked The Relic.

And don't for get the Djinn from Wishmaster.

It was about this time last year that this thread went silent which makes some sense since it's been about a week since Halloween. We'll have to remember to revive it again next year. :)

Drag Me To Hell!!! Hellooo has anyone seen that movie. It's by the same people who were behind Evil Dead. One of the best horror movies of all time! You guys have to check it out.

I almost threw up when the old woman was attacking the main chick in the parking garage. between DMTH and Thinner I've learned one thing, If I ever have to cross an old woman of eastern European decent that wears a head scarf, I will kill her before she has a chance to curse me.

I liked it well enough. As Sam Raimi does well it was funny at parts and serious at others. I like how the main character is so insistent she isn't being a bitch but she totally screws over people she could help just to keep her crap job. It's stories like this that remind me why I prefer my scientific fields, no moral questions (parts of Biology maybe but that's not my area). I would hate being a lawyer or anyone whose job is handling strangers, yuck. I'm not saying she deserved to die by the end but movies often have to exaggerate when they're trying to make a point.

I felt no sympathy towards her whatsoever tbh. I was actually looking forward to her...well getting dragged to hell. Probably would've enjoyed that more if the lead character was more likable.

I liked Drag Me to Hell the first time I saw it, but then the more I watched it on BD the less I liked it.

Faves: The Thing ("John Carpenter's"), Event Horizon, Alien (it's obvious that I like Sci-fi and Horror mixed together...two of my favorite things, like peanut butter and chocolate), Dog Soldiers, Hellraiser(s), The Shining, and The Exorcist(s) (and The Manitou, which I could never figure out if it was related to the series).

Movies I just think were cool and interesting, but didn't rise to the level of faves (good in their own ways): Cabin in the Woods (any nod to Lovecraft wins points with me), 30 Days of Night, Daybreakers, 28 Days Later, Shadow of a Vampire, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Creepshow(s), Tales from the Hood (BIG fan of Clarence Williams and that shit as a whole was just too funny to me), and Fallen.

Cult classics that were just too fun to overlook: The Beast Must Die, The Trilogy of Terror, Green Slime, The Blob (the original and '88 version), JD's Revenge (tied with Blacula and Sugar Hill on the Blaxsploitation-horror tip, but JD gets the slight edge), Salem's Lot, Altered States, The Fly ('86 Jeff Goldblum version), and of course...The Return of the Living Dead (so funny to me as kid).

Not much of the current crop of horror interests me. The PG-13 shoehorn effect seems to be stifling the genre. Krampus looks entertaining (despite it's rating) and I'm curious about Crimson Peak...I've been wanting Guillermo to do more horror; his 'vision' is as beautiful as it is unsettling...always bordering on 'high art'. Unfortunately, that's also my gripe with him. I feel like the awe-inspiring visual quality of what he does sometimes overpowers the creepy-factor of his work. I'd hate to tell any artist how to conduct their craft, but I'd be happy if he went with more 'terrifying' than 'breathtaking'.

I'm also curious to see Crimson Peak, I'll wait until it's out on digital or something though. I don't like how the trailers for it called GDT a master of terror because he's only done like two real horror movies, not saying I'm not a fan of his but still. The Hellboy movies were great and Pan's Labyrinth is one of my all-time favorite movies. It has that effect kind of like you're saying where the grandeur of it is stronger than the darkness but it makes for one amazing fantasy, it's also noteworthy that the movie's highly depressing at times considering the war setting. I also like Pacific Rim, yeah it's pretty stupid script-wise but hey it's giant robots fighting giant monsters with Idris Elba and Charlie Day in the mix!

I've not heard good things about Crimson Peak.

I read it was kinda false advertised.
