@Skoob
Well said. When I first read the update from kastorskorner, I really didn't believe it that it was 100% accurate since Toyark, Fwoosh, and ToyNewsI never said anything remotely close to this in their updates or interviews from NYTF. But it does make sense if you go back and look at the SDCC galleries and see that most of the stuff shown at NYTF 2016 was missing from the display case at SDCC 2016. Skoob is right, DCC needs to have some focus. Only producing lines for DC Icons, DCAU, and DCTV (you be the judge for Bombshells) is better than producing these lines plus the 7" New 52 figures, the New 52 animated movie figures, Designer Series figures from several artists, DC Movies, Arkham video games, and re-releasing DC Direct figures with new paint jobs. I also think it was smart to focus on DC Rebirth instead of the New 52 designs since Rebirth is current and seems to be more popular than the New 52. It sucks that we won't get anymore single figures but if DCC keeps the two packs and multipacks themed so that characters who normally hang out together in the comics are packaged together, then it won't be so bad. And some of those canceled figures like Deathstroke and Catwoman could show up in multipacks themed after Teen Titans and Batman villains. I also don't think that the Iconic Moments sets will completely take over the Icons line. Moments like Bane breaking Batman's back and Batman carrying Jason Todd's dead body seem obvious but what else would they do? Speedy shooting up in front of GA and GL? Doubt it. Although I would totally buy a pack of Clark Kent dashing into a phone booth, changing into his costume, and flying out as Superman. |

I'm a big Icons fan but the line has had some questionable decisions, particularly around character choice. No Wonder Woman for nearly two years into the line and some really weird d listers instead of major characters that would have sold more figures were a big factor for me. I've bought slightly less than half all the Icons figures, fewer from the opening waves than later, because characters like Deadman didn't interest me at all, and Mr Miracle is nothing without Barda. I'm down with the idea of thematic multi-packs, so long as there is a good variety and a decent gender ratio. If we just get Superman + Whatsisname, Superman + Luthor, Superman + etc. Batman + Joker, Batman + Bane, Batman + etc. then that would be hugely disappointing. But some interesting stuff like Batwoman + Maggie Sawyer, Wonder Woman + Cheetah, Batman + Mr Freeze with Nora in a crytube and stuff like that then I'd continue to support this line. |

I can tell you one thing, neither Pixel Dan nor Shartimus Prime had the balls to ask why the other Icons weren't on display and what was going on with them during their interviews. It was total bs because you can't be a journalist if you aren't going to ask these questions. Quote:
It's just like I don't want shirtless Batman fighting shirtless Ra's from their showdown issue. |
They aren't journalists.

I won't be indulging in multipacks, barring something absolutely WONDERFUL coming down the pike. When our friendly neighborhood Ark photographers post an image of something new that grabs me, I go shopping for That Particular Item. Furthermore, it should look better than the 1970s equivalent. great...
Wow, this is terrible news. I just bought the first two waves over the weekend and Darkeid is on the way. Was planning on getting every figure in this series and already have the Toy Fair announcements pre-ordered. And... Then I found this thread. So disappointed. I really happy seeing the Doomsday and Superman set, but as others have said, I don't see myself wanting to buy too many of these. Not to mention display space. I have no shelf room for too many background pieces. I also do not really care for battle damage. And while I am super excited about the Rebirth Justice League set, accessories are really key. Or at least giving them open hands so they can maybe hold other figure's accessories.

While I'm usuallu not interested in battle damaged figures, I do like the idea of a set replicating Bane breaking Batman's back. A set recreating the graveyard scene from Hush would be kinda cool too. |

Hopefully this "Iconic Moments" thing will produce some multi-packs featuring the Gotham City Sirens or Birds of Prey. I'm also hoping for another release of Wonder Woman with a better headsculpt. The current Rebirth sculpt looks off...

Hey, I didn't know reddit had a figure sub. I might have to finally make an account and get involved. |
Well, selling two packs instead of single figures makes about as much sense as having an asshole on your elbow. For one, $28 MSRP was pushing it, and like myself, probably kept many collectors out of that rabbit hole. I'm not sure I understand why they are so expensive. I made this comparison when talking about Marvel Legends and I'll go ahead and make it again. How on earth does Diamond Select offer a figure with similar articulation and with similar accessories but at more than an inch in scale bigger, with more sculpt, more paint apps, a friggin diorama piece AND larger, more detail packaging.....all for an MSRP that is $3 less than an Icons figure?? Judgeing from the amount of product I see from both at about the same number of retailers, their production seems about the same.
What I see is DC Collectibles taking advantage of their core customer, the collector, by overcharging for their figures. And they wonder why comic store shelves are clogged with them. |

Also, DST has to pay for licensing so that's another point in their favor. |
I honestly don't think you can fairly compare DCC to Diamond Select. Not with just the info we as consumers have. You're making an assumption that shouldn't be made. You're assuming that the production costs for a typical Icons figure and the typical Marvel Select figure are equal.
