Grim Reaper and Hyperion coming in 2014.

Tarooster 07-20-2013 09:12 PM

Yeah only 2 new figures shown for the "avengers" line, 2 good ones but still I expected more

frodotrout 07-20-2013 10:39 PM

Hello, can anyone help me locate a sword or gun for MU blade, thanks

I hope we will get more info during NYCC. However if the first wave of rebraned Avengers line consisted of (for example):
Marvel Now Captain America
Marvel Now Iron Man
Marvel Now Thor
Grim Reaper
Hyperion
Vision

I would be very very happy.

We definitely need a new Vision, I have the old one but it cost me a pretty penny and still leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

wylde bil 07-21-2013 04:33 AM

anyone else think its funny they cancel Sasquatch/windigo but give northstar/aurora the same team still cant be finished

with the new announcements, i guess i can save my money not an avenger person, i will say this though if the first wave is absent 1 of antman or wasp, i would be pissed if i was an avengers person, i hope its antman so i can get him to go with the rest of my sub-ff characters

Not really. One, I have toybiz squatch and he looks great next to my marvel universe characters. 2) we don't have Shaman, Box, Marrina, Vindacator, and Snowbird.

uberlad 07-21-2013 07:51 AM

The only thing that is truly bothering me is not the rebranding, it's the insistence that all-new characters are variants. It was bad enough back when they were just costume variations, but now customers may miss out on a character altogether. That strategy has clearly failed in the ML line, and any variant since the archangel wave for MU has been next to impossible for me to find at retail.

Here's a new strategy: tell the customers which figures they are buying! At $10+ per figure, I shouldn't have to guess if I'm getting cloak or dagger, paperbag Spidey or ff Spidey, abomination or a bomb, etc.

The 5 inch toybiz line Sasquatch is pretty decent. Now to track down another to make a Wendigo...

I believe Vortious has cast a set.

kylactus 07-21-2013 10:35 AM

Ok so in the beginning I thought that "Marvel Universe" was a very ambiguous title for a toy line, 70+ years of continuity, thousands of characters, multiple costumes, and universes within universes. plus the title makes it hard to search for online. It seems to me there going full circle, before legends Toy Biz had the xmen, spiderman, and Hulk lines, then they brought them in under the Legends banner to be able to offer a more diverse selection in one brand... brilliant! this whole "rebranding" thing would have been more well received I believe if they had used a little tact, for instance, like they did with series 1 being furry files, series 2 Hammer, and so on they could have gone with "Series 6 Marvel Universe: Avengers", Series 7 Marvel Universe X-men, that way the lines would still be tied together with some continuity for collectors. the way there doing things just feels like a big "FU" to collectors. repacking, overuse of the same buck over and over, and the overall lack of attention paid to collectors since vonner left. remember when they did fan poles? and actually produced the figures we voted on?!?! Our only hope at this point is for Hasbro to take a major hit due to there own incompetence, realize what they suck at and finally hire someone (like Vonner) who gives a rats ass and can drive this concept forward with imagination, passion for the product, and an ear opened to the consumer. But that would involve them doing something right, and its been a wile....

Hit the nail right on the head.

I don't mind the rebranding. 4-5 years is a hell of a run for a toyline. I don't mind the reuse of parts, either. Mattel made their whole 6 inch line with only 3 different body types it seems. Also, there have been problems when Vonner was there, so I am not about to canonize the guy. Remember the case pack outs for the Thor movie or Iron Man 2? And don't forget Hasbro stopped listening to fans and doing polls, q&a's, etc early, maybe just after the first year.

With all that said, they did a ton of great things. Their biggest issues with case pack outs that satisfy retailers, collectors, and casual customers alike shouldn't be as hard as they make it. Arrange waves that have heavy hitters around Christmas to hook casual buyers. Mix one or two obscure characters per wave for diehards. Set up a pr manager who will at least make customers think Hasbro gives a damn. Finally, cool it with impossible to find variants. They cost money to tool, make that money. Hasbro doesn't get a cent from secondary sales, so eff' em.

spade 07-21-2013 03:55 PM

Yeah I don't get how Cloak is a variant of Dagger or Northstar is a variant aurora . Makes sense. Abomination and a-bomb make sense but I could less about A-Bomb.

Characters from different molds should not be peddled as variants.

MADREVJACK 07-21-2013 03:57 PM

Do you guys think the doc Sampson body is too big for a classic magneto custom?

I'm actually working on one using a gladiator body so I would say no, it's not too big. :)

It's just what the call it. Same thing with Marvel Legends. I think they just want us to know it will be harder to get.

Tarooster 07-21-2013 06:09 PM

If the variants were released effectively then whatever but we've already seen the issues with legends that we may never see at all now.

Especially with Aurora and Northstar and Cloak and Dagger, really those both should've been two packs. One is not complete without the other, the abomb and abomination wasn't isn't quite as bad but still these figures are hard enough to get as it is.

Like I understand cloak and dagger aren't everyone's favourites but if that's the case pack 1 spider man per case and the. 1 of the others as opposed to 2 Spider-Man and a random of the other two.

2-packs are dead. They killed them by shipping too much of the same stuff this last year. Maybe the TRU exclusives made every other retailer get stuck warming the same few packs. I don't know. I just know they said they can't sell them to stores anymore.
