Are you ragging on someone for posting an uncredited photo, or are you making a snarky comment about Stan Lee? Perhaps both? Conclusion- "You know me, I'll take credit for anything that isn't nailed down." |
The "Comment invalid" statement just gave me a migraine. But i have a perfect way to fix that picture problem. Just don't post pics that aren't yours how's that sound? Or at the very least give credit for whoever pic you used without their permission.

Took some tribute photos of my own to honor The Man for all the inspirations he's given people throughout the years.

And Jack. And Steve. And Larry, Don, John, John Sr., Don, Ernie, Bill, Roy, Gil, Len, Gerry, Gray, Carl, Gene, and everyone else that helped us believe we could be heroes as well, no matter who we are, where we come from, or how flawed we may be. |
Great photos BB!
And thanks Tim ;) |

There's no right or wrong way to mourn (unless it's through destructive means), But instead of being sad Stan's gone, I'm gonna try to be happy for all things he accomplished while he was with us. Imagine, if instead of installing phone lines in WWII he got sent into combat, he may not have come back, and Marvel (if it even existed) would be vastly different. More people made Marvel what it is today than I can count, but Lee was the figurehead, and we definitely wouldn't have characters like Spider-Man, Hulk, the Fantastic Four, Galactus, the original X-Men and others without him!

Of all the characters he created, I thought his Silver Surfer was the deepest. The compassion, nobility, and remorse. I felt that he exemplified hope and possibility better than other Marvel characters did. Stan summed it up pretty well in 1978 when he wrote that "The limits of time and space are bound only by the shackles of your own imagination. The yawning, unending cosmos beckons, and - somewhere out there, beyond the farthest star, The Silver Surfer soars! Excelsior!" And that potential always thrilled me. I bought this old Stan Lee book earlier in the year, full of anecdotes and stories, family photos and letters he wrote. And other good stuff, lots of it. Scripts, art. Didn't realize that a few months later, he'd be gone. But I'm looking through this thing, and more than once he describes himself as a bit of a preacher. Wanting the struggles he writes to, in some way, reflect the ones in the real world. Trying to relate one civil struggle or another on the page, articulating the need for compassion and love during a time in our country when there really wasn't a lot of that to go around. When saying so was a little more controversial. He covers these issues more bluntly in his "Stan's Soapbox" column, which was terrific. He talked about all the letters he would receive, voicing their complaints about his penchant for moralizing. His responses were polite, but the criticism never slowed him down. So that really stuck with me. I dunno, I didn't know the guy so I don't wanna wax hyperbolic. He just seemed like a dude who genuinely loved people. A born entertainer. |
