I wish they'd make a 6" Miles Morales figure that's actually good...
|
@Phantomcrow
My initial understanding of the Ultimate Universe was that it offered popular writers and illustrators a space where they could experience greater creative freedom. A place where Marvel could keep great talent within the ‘stable’, but allow them to work on new projects once they had grown bored of the main ‘brand’. While I’m not sure how true any of that is, I can sympathize with things becoming stale for talent (and readers) after long runs on titles. I grew up reading and collecting Epic Comics along with mainline Marvel titles (DC too, but this is a Marvel topic thread). Epic was Marvel’s line geared more toward the adult reader (although kids like me were also drawn in) and the storylines were often grittier and represented a departure from the standard superhero fare. I read and loved books like Dreadstar, Alien Legion, Marshal Law, and Void Indigo. I was also ok with the ‘New Universe’, ‘Marvel Knights’, and ‘Marvel Max’ as they came along. I get creating a fresh space for ideas. What I don’t get is re-creating the same characters with a twist in a parallel universe. I cannot get around the feeling that what is being presented is simply a re-tread of familiar material. At least with Epic and New U., the characters were new/different. With M. Knights and M. Max, the ‘lesser-knowns’ were featured and the theme was adult. In my opinion, Ultimate is a giant ‘What If?’ comic universe. This seems potentially messy when considering continuity, and for me, continuity is huge. Looming continuity issues, for both Marvel and DC, have made it hard for me to justify collecting. For the past 5 yrs., I’ve redirected the money I spent on weekly books to figs and selective TPB’s. For those that like the Ultimate Universe, more power to you. I’m a bit of a relic as it pertains to comic collecting; I don’t really fit the demographic of today’s fan. Please don’t misunderstand; I’m not bitter about any of this. I have a boatload of great memories with all of these characters and I’m willing to watch a new generation carry the torch. The current direction is just not for me whether it’s Ultimate or mainstream Marvel (or DC and 52 for that matter). |

I got Jubilee's body and busted out a flight stand for Archangel.
http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...y/CAM01344.jpg Jubilee makes me want to go buy several Spider Girls for customs. Kitty Pryde definitely needs to get a remake on this body. I've also been experimenting with Emma Frost as she is incredibly difficult to pose, even with a stand, and like this one. I'm hoping the claw trains the legs to stay together over time. When it was around her waist her lower body looked terrible. http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...y/CAM01346.jpg |
Added more AIM Soldiers :)

I modified my Cloak and Dagger, so he would have a body and they both would fit better to scale with my Legends. |

Storm! Mistress of the Elements-uh!
http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...y/CAM01351.jpg I got the figure and the BAF piece from two seperate members on a minimates forum. I figured there would be enough people who only either wanted one or the other for it to be easier to obtain them seperately and I was right. My increasingly ridiculous (and pricey) entertainment center http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...y/CAM01352.jpg And yes, I get very distracted watching TV. |
Archangel fresh from Serious Lee(THANK YOU) and recently added Iceman. That Angel is the best figure I have seen from Hasbro/Toy Biz.

I still have the Colossus from Toybiz, he's in a bin though since I cleared out my bedroom a few years ago to make space for new toys. I had a lot of fun with that figure, I feel he actually holds up well enough next to the new legends. A good bit of Toybiz legends still work, but many have been beaten by Hasbro or just sucked to begin with (cough) Scarlet Witch (cough).

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/...psve8cnetf.jpg I know that this isn't the right place for this, but I just whipped it up today after work and wanted to get some opinions. It is the Nerf Starlord gun that I got when TRU had no Legends for me. I was an awful Nerf orange but the sculpt loooked pretty cool so I thought maybe some paint and... What do you think? |

Cut his coat and turned it into a jacket and strapped his blasters to his legs with rubber bands.. |

Since Star-lord was two-per-box like Iron Man, his value is not increased versus retail, as where figures like Nova and Rocket have higher after market prices due to demand and less availability.
