Amiami have also posted some new images of Transformers United Autobot Grapple! The differences between Takara-Tomy's United release and the upcoming Hasbro Solar Storm Grapple could not be more obvious - the Japanese version, pictured here, has an orange head! That's right, just like so many Japanese Henkei vs US Classics / Universe comparisons, Takara-Tomy will be adopting an animation accurate color scheme for their release, compared to the toy accurate color scheme on the Hasbro release.

Prefer the orange head, or does Hasbro's toy accurate black head break up all that orange just right for you? Share your views on our 2005 Boards by clicking the discuss button below!

Next up is this bizarre series of images, posted on Facebook by iGear. All that they have to say on the matter is interesting, but these five pictures speak volumes. What you are seeing is a custom third party unofficial version of Bumblebee, using design cues from his Classics and unreleased Alternators incarnation, with a vehicle mode based on the Volkswagon New Beetle. According to the first image, this will measure up at around 12 cm - or between 5 and 6 inches - tall, so about the height of your typical Deluxe Transformer.

Release details are unknown, but it is likely another partner product such as the custom Firestar we reported on earlier today.

Remember though this is an unofficial product made for adult collectors and not officially licensed by Hasbro or Takara-Tomy.

Amiami have updated with some new images of Transformers United's version of Autobot Drift! The Japanese release of Drift will feature a selection of minor tweaks, including a different tint to the blue plastic on his windows, additional gold paint details on the sides of his face and also on the chest, some extra white paint applications around the shoulders where the faction shields are located, and an overall more vibrant color scheme (unless that's the usual photoshop manipulation that I'm seeing)! Continuing the trend of seasonal themed recolors of its Disney Label line released through Japanese 7-11 stores, Takara-Tomy has updated with information on the seasonal themed recolor of their Disney Label Buzz Lightyear. Unlike Mickey and Donald, who were released in Halloween themed color schemes, Buzz Lightyear will be redecoed in a handsome metallic red and green deco as an "Xmas Edition". Once again this item will be exclusive to 7-11 stores in Japan, with preorders opening even as I type this frontpage update. He'll begin to be sent out from December 11th in time for the holidays, and is priced 4,200 - 4,300 yen. Check out the preorder page at 7-11 here.

*The Costco version might be similar(if not the same) to the metallic Hong Kong version mentioned here. In any case hit the title bar to check out the metallic repaint(with chrome rims and blaster muzzle) of Bumblebee!

Transformers: The Dark Of The Moon Is In Real

Vince Pace, director of photography on the Los Angeles unit of 'Avatar', told Cinematical that Michael Bay's upcoming Transformers 3, now titled Transformers: The Dark of the Moon, is being both shot and post-converted in 3D. "We're doing Transformers with Michael Bay, and that's a big challenge because he's not the kind of director that's going to give you a break," Pace said to reporters Tuesday. "But he met it halfway and he said, look, it complements my product, and I want to incorporate this into my shooting style."

Pace spoke to reporters at the Los Angeles press day for the new 'Avatar' 3-Disc Special Edition Blu-ray. He confirmed that both processes were being used on the 'Transformers' sequel, and observed that filmmakers can make good use of either of them as long as the circumstances are right. "They're doing both," he revealed. "[But] once we win that – once they know you're putting a better product on the screen, then you're working as a team. I think the dimensionalization quotient, if you will, can work if you have enough time, if you have the right talent behind it, and some money to back it, you're in a good place to work in it. Because it's part art, part time, and it's part technology."

Do not think for a moment that Post-Conversion as a way of cheap alternative. Even James Cameron’s Avatar was part Post-Converted. During an interview with MTV, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura was asked whether "Transformers 3" will be shot in 3D. He replied: "We're literally in the middle of that. I think the answer is that as James Cameron, who had plenty and plenty of time to [make 'Avatar'], even he converted some of it. So I think the answer is that you're going to do some kind of combination if you end up doing it."

It's now a trend to release Teaser and Theatrical trailers in 3D with other movies. Do you think Paramount might do the same and reveal a Transformers 3 Trailer in 3D? Tell us what you think at our Transformers: The Dark Of The Moon Trailer Discussions.

Computron Generation 1 Reproduction Knockoff

And now for an important buyer beware for all you vintage Generation 1 collectors:

We've been getting reports that an iOffer listing has been circulating regarding a reproduction of the Generation 1 Technobot Combiner Computron Gift set. We'd heard one was in production, however now it appears that the reproduction is out in the wild, so buyer beware if you're bidding on a shiny new Computron on Ebay.
The box shown on the listing shows an "aged" box, although the seller claims that the actual products for sale are in pristine boxes, so until someone gets a verified reproduction in hand we cannot confirm what "tells" there are to distinguish a reproduction from the vintage.

Remember: These reproduction pieces may be high quality, but they are still not official Hasbro released products and so may not conform to all the health & safety tests that an official Hasbro Transformer will have been through.

Transformers 3 To Have More Comedy

Lorenzo di Bonaventura; Producer of Transformers 3 recently spoke about Transformers: The Dark Of The Moon’s 3D element as well as something else. Comedy.

"What you can expect is more comedy than we've ever had before" di Bonaventura revealed. He also told us a little bit about character development. "You can expect bigger action sequences than we've ever had before and you can expect a different character through-line for our lead because he's a little bit older and Rosie's a little bit older - there's a maturity there that didn't exist before. He's moved on to a new stage in his life with a job, and that's an interesting rite of passage, so I think it has the emotional elements that people are expecting of the movie, but they've moved forward in time, if you would."

This is not completely unprecedented, as previously the Big Bad Toy Store exclusive Ramjet, Dirge and Thrust busts were also offered through Diamond to comic stores. They are due to ship through Diamond in late January. Also check out the release blurb below, complete with a hilariously misplaced "not":

TRANSFORMERS COMM PIRANACON AF SET (Net) (C: 1-1-2)

The Seacons are a team of Decepticons named for their sea-animal alternate modes. The team is able to merge their bodies and minds to form the gigantic Piranacon! They are not available in their traditional G1 colors for the first time since their initial release in 1988! Team leader Snaptrap and underlings Nautilator, Overbite, Seawing, Skalor, and Tentakil comes packaged in a collector gift-box. This limited edition Transformers set includes collector cards, 5 black display stands for the 5 smaller figures, and individual weapons for each figure.

We have received the Diamond Comics Shipping List for next week's comics from 2005 Boards member D-Drive! There is only one comic hitting stores next week, Transformers Sector Seven issue 2, continuing the secret past of the shadowy organisation from the first Transformers Movie and the story of the Simmons family who are inexoricably linked to it.

TRANSFORMERS SECTOR 7 #2 (OF 6) (also it's incentive)

Twenty years have passed since SECTOR 7 discovered the so-called "Mega-Man" under Arctic ice. The Original Seven have scattered-some are dead, others simply missing. But on the site where the Hoover Dam will soon be built, Walter Simmons has discovered the Transformers' mighty Allspark-and a very much alive JETFIRE wants it for himself!

In other IDW Publishing related news, the Transformers Hardcover book of Cover Art vol 1, which would have collected the cover artwork of many of IDW's Transformers releases, has been canceled.

Higekuma Toy Toy Blog has updated with a selection of new images of the latest releases from Takara-Tomy. Featured among their new updates are a pair of galleries of Takara-Tomy's Autobot Alliance Sidearm Sideswipe, one for car mode and one for robot mode. Sidearm Sideswipe's Japanese release differs from his US one by the lack of vehicle mode flames and different colored plastic on his windows. Is it an improvement or does it look bland? Check out the images and decide for yourself.

Also featured in this update are galleries of Sea Spray and Breacher. Autobot Alliance Sea Spray features yellow where the US release has gold, for a closer recreation of the original Generation 1 cartoon style. Breacher on the other hand features a darker shade of blue plastic.
