I wanted 'X' character, and so I bought them. The cost/value is irrelevant. Some of my favorites are among the least expensive figures I have (I'm looking at you, Captain America), but I just love that character. You know? Vision was worth every penny, as he's always been a favorite of mine. Once I had Scarlet Witch he went from a figure I wanted to a figure I needed. Yesterday. So the secondary market price seemed a silly hurdle to aquiring him. I look at all of my 'rare' and 'hard to find' figures over the years and none of them hold any real value in the long run (looking at you, 'Party Angela', hahaha). Pull out your old Toyfare magazines and check out the price guides and 'Hot List'...then go on eBay and compare. It's sad. So just buy what you like and like what you buy. And be happy when re-releases help you fill out your collection. There's no reason to be bitter about it. /shrug. |
HTS has the new wave of MU as coming soon. You can't find it in tn a search but they pop up as suggestions

Avengers assemble figs are in the same boat on hts as well.
As far as maintaining collectibility is concerned, I say forget about it. Hasbro doesn't make a cent from secondary sales. Why not make, repack, or reproduce the figures people want? When people stop wanting them, make something else. |
BBTS Pre-orders
So I've been sitting around drooling at your picks of the new waves and waiting for my BBTS preorder to ship and it just wont budge. I was wondering if you have any advice based on experience on what I might expect it by. I placed the order June 9th and it says 3rd quarter 2013. I don't see any contact info on their site, any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Targets and Walmarts in the Nor Cal Sacramento area seem dead set against restocking MU figures of any kind lately. Can't blame them since their aisles are still clogged with tons of old Avengers 3.75s, the IM3 p.o.s. figures, and the crappy Amazing/Ultimate Spidey 3.75 line. Honestly, I don't think it's wise at all to put out 5 p.o.a. lines and quality 3.75's at the same time. Retailers seem to go heavy on the cheap stuff, and when they don't move, they won't know enough to distinguish them from the quality figures. I'd think Hasbro just ends up competing with and ultimately losing to itself with that strategy.

I haven't seen any of waves anywhere. Not one Target not one TRU in LA. They either have been cleaned out by the Frank and Sons s slcapers or I'm just frustrated. Stupid toywiz still hasn't got them. My legends order got shipped before my universe and I'm not a happy camper

MU Cable

Got it a couple of weeks ago... When I say "it" I mean the cable in the middle of course. |
I have yet to see the latest Electra/New Cap Wave anywhere, but that is pretty much par for the course here in the MD/PA (Mason Dixon Line) area...The scalpers are out Brotha, and the Streets is Watching LOL...My LCS usually gets a case before I see the latest wave at retail and then I cave and pay $14.99/Fig because I'm tired of spending the gas $ looking...Hasbro must not pay attention to what sells. I understand that these are ultimately kids toys but surely they are interested in making $. Here's to hoping that they are all in with this new Avengers line rebranding and they aren't feeding us a line of crap.

OMG you have no idea how right you are. Also though its the retail stores and the so called smart people who order these items. I swear I told the Target guy why do you never get MU. He of course says he always puts an order in but it takes hasbro months to get it to them. I don't know who to believe buy all the stores around me just have night hawk and Hercules. |

I've only seen traces of this latest wave at my TRU. There was a lone Captain America on the pegs and no one else.
I wasn't too sad though, as I really only want he and Elektra from the wave, so I'm half done here. And he's a very nice Cap. |

let me clarify, I don't believe that any toy line made after 91 is going to retain any monetary value. I've never sold a figure, This is a hobby not an investment. Red hulk and Thanos are coming out in upcoming waves, and Iron Spider use to be fairly hard to find. I, as a serious collector enjoy the hunt, if anyone could get any figure at any time for retail prices there would be no challenge, its like baseball cards, comics, or anything that is "collected" The chase of "Rare" items, the bragging rites of a great find, struggling to complete a collection, those are my drugs! and continually re-hashing the same molds over and over is lazy, profiteering bullshit! what's there argument for doing this? to attract new collectors to a dead line? Why? Three years ago I got my red hulk at retail, (after much searching)now I can go to BBTS and buy one in a "new" package! It just gives me a case of the why bothers. think of it like this, you work hard bust your ass and buy a brand new Porsche, then the next day the government gives everyone else the same car for free, if your ass is not chapped, your either an dead, a hippie, an idiot, or you put no value on your time and effort. If you truly believe that toys have no value, ask yourself this: if they were bio-degradable, ten year shelf life then they rot, would you buy them? I guess I'm just a relist, I'm not going to sit on a moral high horse spouting on about the "virtues" of collecting, everything has a monetary value assigned by the market. you want to play, you have to pay that's life. And it "bothers" me when, (to complete a collection) I need to buy the same figure 3,4,or 5 times. I know there's no gun to my head, but FU its my hobby.

The Hope but No Hope variant! It's all self-serving, this stuff only matters to people that have any idea what you're talking about. We collect this stuff because we enjoy it but there's also a tiny part of us that wants to show off to other collectors as well. It's no more unhealthy than any other collector and dropping a $100 on a figure still makes me happier than the SDCC lego minifig that sold on ebay for over $1500.
The only question you need to answer to yourself is "do I enjoy this or is this an obligation?". I feel bad for MOC collectors, not because they'll lose out on money, far from it, but because I can't compute how you enjoy a toy just by looking at it. I have a few MU's on card (wave 1 Daredeveil, Grey Hulk, Jean-Grey, Deathmask Archangel and the SDCC WW2 Cap, see...showing off) but they are pinned next to all the other figures posed, ganged together and ready for action. |
i love marel u figs and many other line but if im gonna buy the same guy at least do like toybiz and make reg/scuba/space/night figs so i can feel like im getting variety. i know they did this for IM/spidey but want this for other the guys too
