And some cards are so lame that you wouldn't keep them. Like IM2 and some Star Wars ones. They are all the same except for the name on the front.

behindthemask 08-01-2012 06:30 PM

Depends on the collector. If you are MOC collector, then half of the reason you buy/keep toys MOC is for the box/packaging and graphics. Some boxes have amazing artwork combined with awesome figures, can look better then being loose and in an action pose. no dust, and higher resale value when and if you do decide to sell. But by keeping them MOC you can't take action shots, can't pose, can't customize, and you need more space either wall or shelf if you leave them moc.

Iceman 08-01-2012 06:34 PM

I don't think they are worth anything but I've kept a lot of the card backs from my MU figures because I liked the art. Eventually I will throw them away. To me, keeping the boxes for larger items makes sense as it's often the best way to store or ship them. I always keep the boxes from exclusives or high value items but I don't have the room to keep everything.

Cool thread,dude/good topic. Me?.....I keep some and throw some away otherwise my wife would have me on "hoarders: buried alive" show.

As an American who moved up to Canada about three years ago I can attest that the jobs up here are in no way better. In fact, I would have much better options back in the US. Too many jobs want French when everyone here knows English anyway. Even a degree doesn't help much these days as many college grads can only get jobs at Target or Future Shop.

And nothing is free in life. That "free" health care is paid for by the much higher taxes I pay here and things like state controlled alcohol.

Let's both do this, Ignore each other! You seem to not like me and I am starting to not like your posts. So lets just continue with the topic and stop all this before we get kicked off for off-topic spam, okay?

Well people up here always say our jobs are better. But I don't know anyone like you for that side of the story. Who really knows. :P

The crazy stories of people paying 100K in medical bills are like one in a million. If you have a good job you have coverage and it never gets that bad. When poor people get stuck with bills like that just don't pay anyway.

For the most part I think the jobs are about the same (you guys just have less people to employ) but it depends on the field. A lot of jobs pay less here than they did in Cali. Problem comes in with having two official languages.

Call health care, ask them what to do with all your card backs! Then tell us what they said! Ha ha! :D

Once I had a whole bunch of nice Star Wars ones that I left outside when I was moving stuff around. It rained really hard while I was away and...well you could guess what happened to the card backs. :( It was sad but I got over it. So just forget to bring them in when it's raining and they will be out of your way! ;)

I don't even own half a dozen MOTUC figures. After seeings some stuff was already thrown out, I only have 2 figure and one panthro mailer boxes

bmorr 08-02-2012 08:46 AM

how does a box thread turn into political discussion? Whatever, I find this fascinating.

ersico 08-02-2012 08:58 AM

i keep the backboards to the packages and the instructions usually, but for fancier takara transformes i keep it all
and i keep it all for my 3a figs

Jackieboy 08-02-2012 09:04 AM

some i keep in Box,most of the time i trash them.

trebleshot 08-02-2012 10:25 AM

Keep it civil and on-topic, please.

As to the topic at hand, I generally keep the card backs for most figures, especially if they have bio or stats printed on them. Monetary value of the packaging means nothing to me when it comes to loose figures. The blister and plastic inserts get tossed almost right after opening.

I also keep the boxes for larger and more expensive toys (TF Masterpieces, convention/store exclusives and so on), as well as the Minimates packaging to act as an accessory holder. If it's generic packaging such as IM2 figures, then I throw all of it away.

Use a box cutter or a sharp knife and carefully cut the blister as close to the card back as you can to remove it cleanly without damaging the cardboard itself. If you only cut the blister on three sides (leaving one side intact), then you can potentially reuse it for storage later down the road.

Optimus Vader 08-02-2012 12:32 PM

I voted trash, but I do keep some. I keep the full boxes of MOTUC, but that's the only line I keep regardless. I also keep exclusive boxes (like the SDCC ML XF set), and maybe a random box here and there if it looks really cool to me. I used to keep all card backs, but I went digital and now just snap a good picture of the card, upload it, then trash the card.

This is what I do with my MOTUC figs. Slice close to the card and then open clam shell style.

Not political, economic. lol.

bmorr 08-02-2012 07:00 PM

speaking about boxes, i still have one from back in the day from an old joe vehicle. the cardboard on the box is like three times at thick as the ones used today. Its crazy how toy companies today penny pinch on packaging.

Penny pinching on packaging saves us extra costs at checkout and the environment.

Bubba304 08-03-2012 04:38 PM

so I've been doing some cleaning today, going through all these card backs and whatnot, sorting and organizing....and I'm thinking...if I move...do I want to be lugging around old cardbacks and boxes. I don't have to tell you fellas how fast they add up over the years.

Yeah but if they made the boxes like they used to you wouldn't have so many boxes and their contents get crunched.

Bubba304 08-04-2012 10:07 AM

who keeps the advertisements inside the boxes as well? the folded mini posters and ads showing other figures in the line and other items related to them. I've got sooooo many of the star wars ones

I have a booklet for my old Action Fleet ships. Those booklets were wicked helpful back before internet was widespread and you could search for what was available.
