very cool...do you remember where you got those display cases and aprox. how much they go for? I like that they are up off the floor, I have carpet so with the exception of solid wood furniture I'd want display cases raised up off the floor

I hear ya I wish I paid more attention to my dad when I was a kid rather than get distracted. Now he'd rather have someone else do the work. Great Idea with the filing cabinets...I have all 2000 of my comics bagged/boarded and stored in 12 plastic rubbermaid boxes...Horrible set up...takes up way too much space. I need to figure something else out and get rid of some...how many do you figure you can store in the filing cabinets ?
The filing cabinets will hold a little over 4200 (2100 each). It replaced a huge stack of long boxes (I think I had 15, maybe a few less). I love them. They take up less room and I have instant access. You have to get Legal file cabinets though. That will give you room for two rows. I took two pics to give you an idea. I created bracers using some foam board and some small tension rods. Before the foam board I just had the rods but they were putting a lot of pressure on the comics. The foam board takes all the pressure and distributes the weight evenly.

Those glass cabinets are sublime. That is a superb set up!

THIS!!! this just made my night even better...on top of the good news I keep hearing about the MOTUC, DCIE, and Watchmen subs. THIS is perfect! Looks like you gave me something to do this weekend...that will free up a TON of space. Thank you kindly for the photos and info...I can't wait to get rid of these plastic boxes and organize my comics better..amazing!

Yeah, I picked em up at Ikea when I went to buy some Detolf ones. Saw these instead and opted for them since they go with the rest of the furniture and sit up off the floor.

I went cheap when displaying mine...thumb tacks for carded figs, and i made my own shelves. 5, 10' x8" boards painted black on a bracket system. works well enough...i used some extra folding tables and left over garage shelving for some of my other things...never enough room though...so i hung my ships and planes from the ceiling, it saves alot of space and looks cool too!

track shelving. yeah buddy!

DAMN!!!! what are the dimensions of your set up there? very impressive...this was similar to what I was thinking about with the glass display cases...but your idea of putting them on top of a base cabinet is SMART! how sturdy is it? does it bolt in?

Each IKEA Detolf has a footprint of 16.75" wide by 14.37" deep. There are six in that photo. (not my personal set-up, BTW)

Just about any color-matched sideboard, bridging shelf, or bookcase unit from IKEA can serve as a base.

The only "tweak" to the instructions is to not install the "feet" on each Detolf cabinet. Instead, buy a large non-slip non-rub rug pad and cut it to size. The cases are very weight balanced and bottom heavy, so I haven't found the need to permanently affix my set-up together.

There are a lot of nice set-ups in this thread. I love the wall mounted glass cabinet, and the Klingsbo set-up. I am always too afraid to go with a straight-up shelving unit since my figs every once in a while decide to lie down on the job, but there are a lot of nice looking set-ups on here. :)

12 year old me wants to high-five you! Great stuff.

Anyone know of some good liquidators or flea markets that might have some good display cases or shelving units for sale?

Qcjoe 03-16-2013 08:08 AM
I really like the IKEA Detolf glass door cabinet, but they look a whole lot better when you stack them on a base cabinet like in the attached pics.

It adds a lot of height so the displays are at eye level and provides useful storage space beneath which is otherwise wasted space.

very nice set up. Thats what I wanted to do before I had to sell my Sideshow stuff.

Unfortunatelly I do not know whether it is sold anywhere in U.S. I wrote exhausting review on my blog (see my sig) http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fSZ_h03_YO...0/P9170347.JPG

Thats exactly what I want. Im going to look into that.

First of all, I'm from the Netherlands so sorry for my bad english.
I saw this topic about a Detolf cabinet setup with 6 cabinets.
I'm looking for the type and name of the cabinet that's placed under the glass cabinets. I was wondering if you guys could help me? Hrothgars message box is full.
Thanks in advance!

Yes me too, but I want to know what the name of the cabinet under the detolfs is?
I want to put my 6 detolfs on top of it, but it's diffucult to find a cabinet with the size of 6 detolfs in length.

ukmu 06-08-2014 01:49 PM

this thread is GREAT!!!!!!!

@Falco Peregrinus.... he bought that BOTTOM shelf at Ikea.... look over and over in catalouge

I am looking into that LIVARNO set up...they sell them LiDL, a German grocery almost identical to the other German exported super market, ALDI... I have both NERY close. About to write to them via email and ask. I may even drive over and talk to a manager soon....

FalcoPeregrinus 06-08-2014 03:20 PM

@Ukmu

Yes, but I think this one isn't in their collection anymore, and like I asked:
"I'm looking for the type and name of the cabinet that's placed under the glass cabinets."
Type or name is an easier search, even on auctionsites.
Anyone has contact with the original poster of the picture?
His private message box is full.
Thanks in advance!

FalcoPeregrinus 06-13-2014 12:51 AM

Found the type cabinet. It's "Effectiv".
