Disney has done no wrong with Marvel.

In fact, I wish they would, because Marvel needs to be smacked around for their stupidity with the Avengers vs X-Men series.

However, and this is why it's so irritating... is Disney is soooo very good at hiring people that actually do give a damn about quality, and are very very good at their jobs (Joe Quesada and Loeb aside).
But I'm thinking of Brad Byrd, Glenn Keanne, and all those wonderful people behind Pixar's and Disney's greatest movies and shows.

I think that's why disney always leaves you feeling so dirty. It robs you. It takes your childhood. It takes your money. But it makes you want it.
As badly as you want to trash Disney... you can't deny how wonderful Lion King, Little Mermaid, Lilo & Stitch, The Incredibles, Wall*E, and Brave are... as well as their others. Most of their movies are at least enjoyable, if not some of the greatest movies of all time.

I know I need to see Wreck-It Ralph. Here's more money I don't have that Disney is getting.

Breaking news: Corporation wants to make more money!

Seriously, you don't see the contradiction in your statement here? You claim Disney is all about money but doesn't care about quality, then note that they hire quality people to work on their product.

If Disney didn't care at least somewhat about quality, they wouldn't hire those people to begin with.

Hasbro being bought by Disney would pretty much change nothing except possibly getting the lines better distribution and marketing.

All this reflexive hate/fear of Disney is pretty much completely unwarranted. All the stuff we like/liked was already owned by big businesses. There's really not much change as far as we're concerned.

Dark Hayabusa 11-06-2012 08:50 AM

That'll be the end of the IDW comics, yes I know everyone hates "All Hail" but the current output is really enjoyable and genuinely funny (to TF geeks at least) and there's no way Marvel would keep 3 TF titles on the go. I think the real value is the toy production. Disney will pretty much own and produce all their facits of media. So mattel better get busy while they can.

trebleshot 11-06-2012 10:07 AM

Honestly, I'm on the fence about this. Some good things could come of it, others bad. It does make me curious, since after the Hub launched Hasbro said they wanted to shift the overall focus of the company from a toy manufacturer to an entertainment company.

In my mind, I saw them wanting to become a competitor of Disney, not a division of it. But that may be the reason for the current "discussions".

I would think if Disney had its own toy company, then it would move all of its toy licenses in-house rather than have some other company do it. That whole "sharing profits" thing ;)

If this is True. Transformers Prime's 3rd Season will be it's last. Transformers 4 may be canceled all together to reboot for a new Trilogy. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Disney the main reason Ultimate Spidermen on Disney XD is so kiddy and stupid. If they are going to do the same to Transformers, I want no part of it.

I highly doubt that is the case.
If that were true, Avengers would be just as dumb. Ult Spidey's over stylized camp was the decision of the producers who were put in charge of that show. Not just because "OMG Disney is so kiddy."

warmachine6 11-06-2012 02:12 PM

so first marvel , now starwars , and possibly hasbro , F*$k it disney just buy everything why dont you

Snowflakian 11-06-2012 02:31 PM

It's expected from Disney to be trying. Hasbro has been expecting this day. So have I. That's why we heard news a few years ago of hasbro shoring up stocks to avoid the possibility of a buyout.

When you think of boys licenses. Hasbro has everything Disney needs. Military besides super spy shield that would also rock as a sub-shield faction or even just a military one. Giant robots with staying power and that are iconic. A strong partnership abroad with takara tomy that's been making TF Disney to decent success, and with a merger like this a stronger chance for some form of disney live toku of some kind. Plus it also opens up the gaming end more to allow for some interesting content for Kingdom Hearts. Warner pretty much has all the others and Mattel doesn't have much worthwhile in independantly owned IPs besides barbie. Hasbro also has a rival channel on air that could do well brought into disney's fold possibly for a teen disney that includes slightly edgier hero toons(uncensored) whereas something like disney XD would get the younger censored versions. This also gives disney a perfect outlet for all future merchandise, which means more marvel lines from hasbro and easier rights usage. This also would mean possibly faster IP usage from hasbro too though. Stuff like Rom back in Marvel, Jem, Inhumanoids(merge it with cloverfield!), and more back on tv or even made into live series.
So it's pretty much expected from disney not to mention all the other contracts with a company that's pretty much growing into an eventual rival.

Now would hasbro bite? Not sure. I don't see why they would for now unless the deal was pretty lucrative. If they can rebalance themselves and get back on the upswing again, they can continue to build themselves into an entity like disney unto itself in the future(long term), but with disney resources they could do a lot more quicker with potentially minimal interference like marvel has seen. The question would be though, how much of marvel would then control hasbro is my concern. Since recent articles have suggested because of the marvel buyout the ceo of marvel is a majority shareholder of disney now.

But yeah, I've been expecting this for a long while now. Both Marvel and Hasbro seemed like givens.

I'm torn between thoughts on this though. I kind of want hasbro to stay independant while making marvel toys, but I also kind of dig the idea of a company made by a man who learned his trade in st louis owning all of em. xD
There are pros and cons on both sides. Comes out about equal either way on those lists.

Yes I said Disney is pretty hands off with marvel. Ultimate Spider-man is because of the animation staff shake up that put jeph loeb in charge. Love it oir hate it, it's pure marvel.

tlasjr 11-06-2012 03:34 PM

Disney is just trying to save us from the Hungry Hungry Hippos movie. They could even stop candyland.

Disney has never been fond of Avengers: EMH. They missed airing several episodes of the first season, first season never had a specific schedule they bothered to adhear to. They however love USM, and second season EMH only has stability because of USM.
On top of that, Disney wanted it to be more about Ironman and Captain America than the other avengers, hense them dumping major storylines for Thor and Hulk mid season, and hurrying to wrap up the scrull storyline.
Also, Avengers is not an in-house production, like USM. It was independent and was being shopped to the highest bidding network, like Wolverine and the X-Men. Disney aquired it because that was around the time they bought Marvel.
Not to mention that EMH has been cancelled so it can be replaced with an avengers series that for what we've heard, is more in line with USM.

So, interperate that as you will. I don't see them as examples of what we could expect for Hasbro shows, but I can understand why these two examples worry people.

If that's the case, I'm going to hate the New Avengers and Hulk cartoon also. The few times I've seen Ultimate Spider-man I can't help saying "Shut the F#@! Up" everytime Spiderman talks to the TV. God I hope they at least have some mature storylines in the new shows. Everything in USM is just a big Joke, and really not worth watching.

Crazy Jetty 11-06-2012 06:48 PM

@nako

I agree with that assessment of USM. I certainly don't mind a good dose of humor... in fact, I expect it from spiderman (The USM comic can be hilarious)... that's one of his big shpeals, after all. But every time they start moving along with the actual story and pull me in, then they totally kill it with their 4th wall shlock, and chibi angel/demon spidies, and that kind of stupid stuff.

Still Wind 11-06-2012 07:15 PM

Love to see what happens with this....And I actually liked the last episode of USM. I plan to give the other new shows a try.

Well I guess we're all doomed and what not...I donno...

I really lost interest in TF Prime by the end of season 2 and I never cared about the Joes, so I'm really having a hard time feeling worried or angry about any of this...But that's me.

Crazy Jetty 11-06-2012 08:00 PM

Well... the way I personally feel about transformers, is it cant get any worse. Prime has been as uninteresting a series as it can get. The movies are terrible. And if you're not a gamer, the games offer you nothing except bad transformer designs, and badly designed and extremely expensive scout class toys.

So at this point, even if Disney bought hasbro, and desided to make a scene for scene remake of a very bad eighties sunbow cartoon, even that is an improvement at this point.
(Keep in mind, I am absolutely not a fan of the old cartoon. To me it's only slightly more preferable to the movies or Prime).

I miss the Unicron Trilogy, where Hasbro would give us a variety, and introduce new and interesting things every couple years. Even if those did not work as well in practice as everyone would have liked, at least it felt like they were trying, and not bound to the exact same rehashes year after year.

A lot of that is subjective. (The films are horrible, though.) Even after all the issues that even I have with Prime, it still had it's moments.

Ew...I have no respect for your opinions now...I mean, sure, subjective and all that...But still...Ew.

The funny things is Disney will own Wizards of the Coast. They could put Magic everywhere! D&D in Disney World. They have room to build up to three more parks and think of all the new property they will have. The funny thing is they just got Star Wars and Wizards gave up the license for it 3 years ago and Fantasy Flight picked it up. Real short trip there for a contract.

I knew they were going for something else but I swear I thought it would be Sony, Blizzard or Bioware. I thought video games was next. You never know now.

Preeeetty sure that if Disney were to try to buy an existing video game company, they would go for Square Enix before any of the others.

That's more or less true about avengers, though it was marvel in house made just had no network to be aired on until disney bought Marvel. The problem came from the media staff shake up though and the appointment of Jeph Loeb. Though tbh, I can't honestly say I'm sure of Yost in charge there either. He has some mild subconcious anti-women order of event choices and dialogue. The shift from emh to USM style is because of Jeph Loeb's interaction with man of action on USM. The idea is an avengers by them(man of action) in movie style would be epic. How that pans out has yet to be seen. (Jeph Loeb is also the man that caused Heroes to nose dive.) Whedon's helping on the live though. That should keep those good at least.

My only hope is with this timing of redoing the series, they opt to go the path of making one censored for younger audiences, and one uncensored for adult audiences, but we'll see.

The problem I was pointing out before though comes from what all the deal entails after, it seems disney lost employees during the marvel buyout aftermath. Disney has more or less stayed hands off. I don't see much difference towards hasbro except better toy shelf exposure. Hasbro does have the age groups paired up all around pretty well. Rescue Bots, Transformers, GI Joe, MLP, Jem, Not to mention the backlog still untapped like their fantasy based series, future series, tech series, monster series, building block series, gameboards, etc. A hungry hungry hippos tmnt spoof movie sounds like perfect disney fodder too.

Crazy Jetty 11-06-2012 11:45 PM

Makes sense. But like I'd said, I didn't see those two as examples of what we can expect for hasbro shows if disney bought them. Just that I could how people could worry.

I always felt that Avengers getting tanked was more due to Loeb's meddling.

On the bright side.... Hey! Phineas & Ferb kreos would become a major possibility!

Accepted! Humor and lightheartedness can be sometimes hard to read in text, and I didn't realize you were just being playful. I'll try to keep that in mind in the future when I see simular statements.

I appologize for my harsh words, and misreading your intent.
