i really dont see it as an issue with colour,more so an issue with people just not paying the asking price for these figures when they first seen general release.i think the reason you dont see galactus is because hasbro produced less of him than the sentinel line and besides people were genuinly happy to pay the asking price for galactus because its a far superior figure to the sentinels.

Well, they use a lot of the same parts and are the same basic mold so I don't think that's it. There wasn't any media out letting kids know what Sentinels were but the same could probably be said of Galactus. The only things that either had been in recently before the toys came out were some video games I think. Collectors buy these expensive large figures while it's hit and miss with kids. Hasbro just did a bad job giving new fans a reason to buy either of these but they also didn't attract the collector market with retail Sentinel.


I don't remember a single collector complaining that they want a Galactus but didn't like the colors of the retail version. The SDCC Sentinel sold very well and then when we saw the silver/purple for the retail version all I heard was how much they wanted the classic colors and would pay for the other version etc. Comic color Sentinels have flown off the shelves of discount stores while the silver ones are still left sitting there. They may have produced more of the Sentinels but they didn't even sell well enough to get the classic color ones to retail shelves.


I do think you a point about people not wanting to pay retail for large items but I think that is just our mentality. We know that most of these items will go on sale for cheap on Amazon or maybe eventually hit a discount shop. The problem with this is that Hasbro needs these things to sell if they are going to continue to make more. Every time they make a Sentinel or MTT and it doesn't sell well, it means we are less likely to get a Fin Fang Foom or Jaba's Sail Barge. I would rather all the product sells and avoids discount shops because the small discount for one item can mean they are less willing to take chances in the future.

I dunno how to take this thread. I've read all of it, lots of good points, and lots of speculation. Personally my main issue is distribution. Marvel Select is only found through LCS never retail, ML is now popping up at my Walmart and TRU but it's only Zola wave, I would love to see some series 3 hit retail and maybe even series 3b? lol, ie blade/moonstar etc, I like the figures but not enough to pay retail and near retail again in shipping costs. I stopped really collecting MU due to so many reissues,repaints, multipacks, exclusives etc. it get super annoying. If TRU,Target,Walmart pay the extra for exclusives, I want to see them at retail. When you do CC exclusives make them accessible. Stop reissuing the same spidey.wolverine,iron man figures in multipacks and focus on new content, if your going to redo something, do it right, Example hydra/aim/shield multipacks, would sell like hotcakes in any scale. Know your customer and cater to our wants and needs and when that's met, give us the chance to buy it, ie put it on a damn peg! if it sells restock!

I don't know if Diamond even tries to put the Selects out at retail. I've seen a Spidey or two at Zellers and I hear you can find them at Disney Stores but other than that it seems they target LCS.

Can't buy what isn't on the shelf. Been waiting months to see the waves on shelves, haven't seen them. So either they are selling out fast or they aren't getting stocked. And five points? Yeah, good luck with those selling.

I just find their decisions insulting, not just to collectors but to kids as well. You give kids bendable figures that can hold the weapons and look like they are climbing or flying and now...sorry kids, your figures can't do that anymore. In fact they can't do anything anymore but look like statues. And why? Our profits aren't high enough from our own screw-ups.

I just hope they give collectors and the kids who care the alternative and not just a "take it or leave it" option.

I have seen the odd MS at Zellers, but it was only spidey and he's kinda blah for me. the destroyed car base is awesome, but not worth $20 for it. My LCS sells them but they're over priced. ML is only at TRU and Walmart and old stock, can't wait until next year when my Zellers becomes a Target!

Look, wile were on the speculation ban waggon, hasbro has a bunch of marvel movies coming down the pipe witch need tie in lines plus the relaunch of ML. mabey they relized that the peg warming movie lines (dose anyone care about the "Concept series"?), and (how many repaints of the same damn IM2 armor do I need?) are able to be dumbed down and still hit there intended market, children. on a positive note were getting more marvel product now than we had in the 90's!!! its a great time to collect! and the highly articulated 3.75 is THE action figure standard, it has been sence the 80's with gi joe. I dont think were getting screwed, I'm thinking revamped.... maby there consolodating there efforts, we've already seen improved sculpts, more unique molds, and I think better paint (in some cases....JUBILEE!) mabey there slowing the line down to save money and resources to expand with vehicles, playsets, large figures, ect. I'll take 12 or so awsome figures I want every year over 20-34 spiderman,wolverine,IM repaints that I only buy because I'm a MU crackhead! I've read in a old toyfare that the reason for shutting down legends in the first place in favor of MU was that there is so much more you can do in this scale, no i think were in a rough patch but i'll take 70+ years of pop culture continuity witch the MU line can explore over the marvel movie of the week....even though there awsome.

The only opinion I can offer is that we probably have seen most of the Iron Man 3 line. If we can remember, the movie lines have gradually shrunk from Iron Man 2 which had what like 6-7 waves? To Thor which had technically 3 but the last 2 hardly showed, Cap Am had 1, and Avengers had 1.

As we've all pointed out, these lines are still out there and to clog retail with more similar lines with multiple waves would be insane.

So this is it probably for Iron Man 3.

Cap and Avengers both had at least two waves.

I've always said that MU isn't going anywhere. I cant say that anymore. I think 2013 will be the end. at least at mass retail.

In 2009 we received 70 figures overall with 40 new characters, in 2010 77/35. 2011 76/35

In 2012 it fell off to 47/15. Thats includes the three figure professor x wave that popped up for 1 case per store at walmart.

Conversely if we see all the figures they've said we're getting this year we should see more new characters in 2013 than 2012.

side note: wouldnt it be great if they did another fan favorite vote? I mean even if they close out the line, go out with a bang. and if MU ends lets remember it wasnt that long ago ML got the axe and how long did that last? Economies rise and fall, nations come and go, currencys crunble.... great iconic charactures, they'll be back,

While I'm not one for hearsay and conspiracies, the math on this seems relatively convincing. However, since MU's inception we have gained several "sister lines". It could be possible that the drop in 2012 was due to the 3 big Marvel movies which were still out at retail, as well as the hit that Hasbro sustained that year.

Although thats just an alternative hypothesis there truly doesn't seem too much of a logical reason why we'd see THAT much of a decline from 2011 to 2012.

In either case it is what it is I suppose

If you factor in the movie lines from Thor, Cap, IM2 including single carded and doubles, then the MU 3packs,4packs, 5 packs, we got quite a few figues, also adding in the CC exclusives.. I doubt MU will go far, but the retail selection has been the shit for a lot of collectors.

The companion lines I'll accept as part of MU somewhat but not entirely. Tons of XMO, IM2, and Cap figures fit great but the Thor line didn't give us anything that fits comic style except the Destroyer Armor. Now with IM3 and ASM the movie lines just don't fit with MU anymore.

Technically that conversation says the action figure business not toys.

But I am pretty sure it's drying up in my area hard to find any product on the shelf at all.

There is another line of reasoning here too though.

More money is being diverted to MU and Legends style lines over movie lines. So the movie-lines are lacking but the comic lines and legends lines aren't.

Think like Ironman armored adventures, Spectacular spider-man, the spider-man movie line, wolverine and the x-men. All of those had limited articulation and had no impact on changing articulation in MU for less. So I don't see any reason as yet to fear. We'll find out come toy fair and SDCC probably anyway. At least for certain. If anything they might find a more direct route too. The line is way too profitable to leave forgotten for too long.

I kind of hope hasbro blows our minds at toy fair with an entire Marvel Now line up from everything they could get together from what's available or minor nods including Vance Astro and Modern Quasar or even a three pack that includes Talon.
Stuff like Marvel Now Cyclops, Now Ironman, etc on down the line.

Thor line gave a decent destroyer in 10'' scale and MU scale, it gave frost giants, which if you see Jin's customs can be awesome, an army builder and paired with the giant MU frost giant from the gigantic battles set, looks good. Heimdall is a nice figure, but articulation blows, I have seen a couple customizers removed his arms and legs for joe legs and looks awesome. If anything else you got fodder pieces nice caps, and hammers, but a lot of stupid over the top weapons. I kinda liked Odin too, there's xmo, IM2, SOON IM3, spiderman series gives us more figures like shocker, rhino, carnage, venom, some great sculpts, not always the best articulation. I have a complete set of IM armoured avenger figures loose if anybody is interested let me know... lol,

They did throw collectors a bone with that super articulated movie Spidey. One of the rare times that "super articulated" really means what it's supposed to when Hasbro throws that description around.

whats weird about heimdall is that on the package he has articulation in the upper torso,yet the figure itself does not have it.at first i didnt really pay the thor line much notice,but looking at it now,i agree with you,it does have some sweet figures.

While it's an unrelated line I find it interesting to see the highly articulated 6" Star Wars figures. Maybe Hasbro really is subscribing to Mattel's idea of 4" for kids and 6" for collectors.

Whatever happens, there's still some older figures I need and there's always the customs route for the rest.

After decades of people growing up with 4" and the industry being able to produce highly-articulated and highly detailed figures at this scale, I don't get why Hasbro would make this decision.

I've definitely noticed the decline, but that doesn't mean they aren't still producing as much product. They're constantly reissuing figures, and while that doesn't do a thing for collectors who have been in the game for a while, it says a lot about staying power. During the first few years there wasn't much, if any, to reissue. To build the line there needs to be variety. We're at the point where reissuing a figure, like Thanos, is almost the same as producing a new figure. I mean, I have absolutely nothing to back up the "MU is here to stay," or the "MU is dead," debate, but from what I see in stores it's hard for me to think it's coming to an end any time soon.
