I will say If they only get to tier 1 because you do not sign up don't complain. For those of you waiting Just sign up already I have a feeling this will be the last time Mattel does a DC Club line because why bother if people just refuse to do anything. Those of you who want to cherry pick let me tell you you won't be cherry picking if there is no line because you only wanted 2 figures as I've said if you don't want X figure just turn around and sell it.

To me cherry Picking is "I don't care enough about any figures so I can live without getting the ones I want"

There just aren't enough collectors out there that want every random figure that gets made. I am no big into DC at all but if they make a figure I really want I will get it (sub figure or retail). I will not fork over hundred of dollars when I don't care about 90% of the figures they are offering in their sub. It has nothing to do with "not caring" about a line in general but about understanding things that are beyond my control. Even if I had the money and bought 1,000 subscriptions it wouldn't change the popularity of what they make. Capitalism is good and if they can't offer enough of what people want then they should stop making figures. For most people, this whole thing is basically offering Doomsday at a super high price to try and sell the other much less wanted stuff. The subscription largely only makes sense for comic shops and specialty retailers. Outside of that most collectors just aren't down to pay for stuff they don't want.

It's also funny you say don't "cherry pick" but then you tell people to sell the figures they don't want, which would be bought by said "cherry pickers". Can't have it both ways. People will only pay money for what they actually want. None of us are under any obligation to "save the line" or pay salaries over at Mattel. That is their job. The mass of Batman figures warming pegs right now just shows that when DCUC went away they didn't figure out how to fix it. Kinda sad I guess but I have myself plenty of lantern figures and I can be happy with that. Plenty of other things that we could put our money towards.

webz 08-07-2013 10:47 PM

Ummm... NONE of the MOTUC listed remotely interest me. '87 movie he-man and skeletor are what I want... Not gwildor. Not madam razz. I'll pass. Let the line die. Far as I can see, it died after ram man.

CMIII 08-08-2013 03:27 AM

ok maybe if I was mattel and four horseman I would say this or even do this "If we do not get the subscriptions there will be no line after 2015 and 2014 there will only be enough for subscribers.

I am sorry for coming off bitter but it feels like people could care less if a company closes and people lose their jobs. What I maen by I don't like cherry picking is I don't like buying from the Company directly it say "We like these figures but would rather not pay for them. And Doomsday costs nothing beyond Shipping

CMIII 08-08-2013 05:22 AM

Mattel has said they will not put out new sculpts without the sub numbers it's symbiotic. You don't want a sub because your tired of the same sculpt but mattel will not make a new sculpt because theres not enough interest.

Ok so you think is a scare tactic on the 20th if the DC sub doesn't go through and the line gets cancelled and nobody gets anything who do I blame 1st a company that wants to put out something or people who claim to want something but don't care enough to back it?

I believe it was said when you gamble eventually you lose, but sometimes you do win

Joe Moore 08-08-2013 06:56 AM

Toy Guru has weighed in on the subs and meters.

That's just it... they AREN'T making characters people want. Who HONESTLY jumped up and down and giggled when Photog was announced for MOTUC? No one. How many times has there been a demand for Mme Razz? MAAAAYBE once? I've seen TONS of comments about fans wanting a movie He-Man and Skeletor... but they threaten to withhold Gwildor. REEEAAALLY????

As a Transformer collector, primarily, I totally understand the idea of using a mold a billion times to get the most $ for the buck (pun intended), and with MOTUC, there is really VERY few different parts, so I don't see what's Mattel's problem, since 90% of the characters are already made, just need a different head sculpt. Mattel is HUGE, and brings in millions, and can afford to make Ghostbusters toys but says DC and MOTUC are too expensive? I'm pretty sure there are more DC fans than Ghostbuster fans (sorry Bill Murray). This whole thing stinks of begging. Every year, more begging. Sorry Mattel, but I don't give to beggars.

CMIII 08-08-2013 07:44 AM

I could have cared less about Feb, March, Club, May, June, Sept, Nov, or Dec figures this year thats 8 figures I have no interest in but I knew then that if I didn't go for All i wouldn't get any and the same applies. Let me say the MOTU line is not in as bad shape as the DCCIE or Ecto 1. what bothers me all these people scream how bad they want an Oversized Doomsday but when the Oppertunity is there you become Turtles and pull your heads into you shells

cobracobra 08-08-2013 07:51 AM

I think the lack of transparency and the high need for subs is killing Matty Collector. Things like BIG LOTS, Spirit of Hordak and Strobos kill customer trust and brand loyalty. They totally pissed allot of people off this year again. I really think its unfair to dump subscription merchandise at a low end retailer. It just makes everything look and feel like shit. I think a better solution was to cut a deal with online retailers or even to the fans them selves through the website.
Also seeing a MOTUC figure sell for 10 dollars at Big Lots and were paying $25 a piece it truly makes you wonder what the actual cost of these figures are.

Also Glimmer and Hydron are not what I consider A listers sadly. I am not sure what would be at this point. Two Bad is great I ll give them that but after Neputhu and Geldor this year I am not sure I have it in me.

So those are my reasons for not giving a shit this year.

suprmn4105 08-08-2013 08:00 AM

Hoping someone here can answer this. I have considered subbing for DC line because I would love to have the "Tire 2" Doomsday figure. There are some questions I have.

If I sub to the Club Infinite Earth's line, I get 12 exclusive figures, 1 per month, but have no idea who those 12 figures/characters will be? I will also get the "Tier 1" clothed Doomsday, but only get the much cooler "Tier 2" if enough people subscribe?

ScarletSpiderXX 08-08-2013 08:22 AM

How about DC gives the toy license to Bandai Japan, so they can make Figuarts of DC Characters. There figures are worth every penny.

Poison Shadow 08-08-2013 08:40 AM

As much as I hate Hasbro for their recent delays/cancellations of certain ML variants, I can't believe how much Mattel seems to have botched their lines.

I've always been aware of these subscriptions but I never really paid attention to them until now - they seriously expect people to pay up front for an unrevealed list of action figures? That's a ballsy thing to ask. Stupid, but ballsy.

I was already pretty pissed at Mattel for the way they handled the Young Justice toys - overpriced 6" figures and horrible statuesque 4"-5" figures with a crappy segmented Hall of Justice facade as a "bonus". What's worse, their mishandling of the line killed the show itself when their PoS toys didn't sell. Boo.

Now considering the fact that they canceled Batman Beyond (for the second damn time!) and Damian Wayne, that leaves me with nothing to get excited about when it comes to Mattel products.

I will be buying the DCC Designer Series, however. At least DC Collectibles seems to know what they're doing now.

CMIII 08-08-2013 08:56 AM

I wont argue that the Super Powers line up wasn't a mistake but by and large of that group you got Flash, Hawkgirl, Green Arrow, Batman, Stepphenwolf, Dessad, Cyclatron, Tyr, and Golden Pharaoh. Only the last three were pointless (somehow I ended up with 2 Golden Pharaoh) other wise show me who was a waste?

Because this isn't a preorder just to get a reasonably priced Doomsday. Also, the figure they showed at SDCC looked like it was a bit too big. Not to mention the fact that I could get an awesome custom Doomsday made exactly how I want it for way less than the price of a subscription.

Joe Moore 08-08-2013 09:40 AM

I love the passion being displayed here on both sides. I really do. But please guys, let's not resort to insults or trolling. Cleaned up a post or two. It's clearly an issue that has people on edge and I can understand wanting to attack, but keep in mind, in the end, we all want a line we can/do enjoy.

CMIII 08-08-2013 11:51 AM

I have to apologize I got very passionate about the lines. And Yes I HATE Marvel Commicals and even more so since they sold to Di$ney but birds of a Feather.

I am not going to buy some custom Doomsday. I have 1 custom in my collection and I made it.

I do not buy DC Collectables I had a few and was very disappointed so I would never buy them again

CMIII 08-08-2013 01:31 PM

I'll give some transparency.

1) Mattel doesn't get to Tier 1. The shown figures do not get made MOTU, DCSC, or GBE1.

2) DC Tier 1 is reached. GB Min Reserve is met. DC gets Aquaman, Ice, Superboy, Prison Doomsday are released with 8 other figures likely announced at NYCC, NJTF, and SDCC14. Ecto 1 comes out.

3) Tier 2/Ecto 1 max met. DC receives same as above except Doomsday Unleashed comes out instead and New molds for 2014 line after Superboy. GB gets Ecto1 with Peter and Ray.

Mattel will not give further figures as it wastes money on making a possible that simply may not happen

Sorrow Bringer 08-08-2013 01:50 PM

Haha good bye Matty. As much as I love MOTUC your price is ridiculous I can't own one. Choke on your subs! you're too scared to gamble in retail, where everyone can afford them. Truth is you don't have faith in your toy line.

As far as MOTUC, if the subs don't sell the minimum, they have said that the reveals from SDCC will be released as quarterly figures. All will be made available as day off sale. No more figures other than what was shown will be released. I have faith, though. MOTUC will make the minimum. Can't say the same for Ecto-1, which is too bad. I really want one.

Sorry to hear that you're unable to afford a single MOTUC figure, but that's no reason to be so negative. Your handle is quite appropriate.

CMIII 08-08-2013 02:25 PM

Why should Mattel gamble on Retail lines (where you do pay a Retail Mark up) if you will not Gamble on a club? Again a vicious circle ohhh and Mattel Practically created He Man so those rights will not be moving

I don't understand the lack of retail for MOTUC either... Toys r us sells all sorts of fringe lines that have a cult following, all for $20 to $25... Lines based in obscure movies, games, etc... Matty can't do this with MOTUC? I think it's more greed than a production issue. If they sell thru themselves, no $ goes to the retailer.

it's possible that Damien is on the Subscription line list. As for Batman Beyond he has been released as a member of wave 4 DCUC

JinSaotome 08-08-2013 07:22 PM

I don't chime in on the Matty fiasco on the forums that often but Scott/ToyGuru is blowing my mind with these 'sub or die' videos I see popping up what seems monthly.

Here's my mind-blowing observation: Instead of looking at different ways to market/revise/condense/re-brand/or reprice the lines their solution is to just let them die unless we buy subscriptions. Would you buy a car from a car company who told you that the only tires that fit the car had to be imported from France and that you had to buy ten sets at a time?

This is what I'm seeing from Matty, more specifically hearing from Scott. How long would Matty last if they pulled that crap with Walmart? "Buy our blind-assortment of figures caseloads of a time or we'll stop making figures for you to sell." Walmart would flush Mattel's contract down the toilet and put up another rack of GI Joes without missing a coffee break.

I'm sorry Mattel but it's not up to us to fix your line. Toy lines come and go, heck companies come and go all the time. Remember Palisades? Lionel? Trendmasters? ToyBiz? Mattel can have their name added to that list no matter how big they are. And if the current thought of 'let the consumers fix it' continues it may well be.

The bottom line is Mattel works for us not the other way around. It's up to them to produce figures that we want to spend out money on and figure out the most affordable, consumer-friendly way of doing so.

deathbymexico 08-08-2013 07:29 PM

have they ever tried holding a poll so people could actually vote to see who they would get? people seem to complain a lot about the line ups but holding a poll might get people more interested. the DC lines have pretty much sucked all year so I don't really care if they cancel, they plan to keep lines going for so long but they don't give them enough steam to get started. sucks that the MOTU fans will miss out. and lots of DC fans too. but if Mattel gave us a good solid year of stuff we wanted, they may see a different result with their lines. but really lets be honest, matty hasn't given us new sculpts in like years, they sculpted those basic DC bodies in like what 2007? at least hasbro gave us a few new bodies over the last few waves. but hey you better sign up! I mean the peole who sculpt it and the people who sell it say it's a really really good idea!

further more if NECA can bust out 10 waves of predators, based on 5 movies and a few other fun lil tricks, sell them at the less than $20 for AWESOME figures with sick sculpts and complex paint apps, they can do a series of evil dead figures just because they wanted to, not to turn a massive profit. I don't see how mattel with the rights to one of the biggest comic companies in the world can't figure it out.

On stuff that lacks quality. Well maybe Hasbro needs to do a Subscription line so they can go belly up where they belong because with what they put out the Quality looks like a something I pulled out of a Trash can

Because not showing interest in one line shows that you could live without any line. In my eyes whats the point of putting out action figures at all from any company if you don't want one.

I find Hasbro just shoves out figures with the worst quality

Uhhh... hate to break it to you, but the only thing I'm defending Hasbro on is getting stuff out to be sold at retail. far as I'm concerned, you're right about the rest of that stuff.

And paying $30+ for a figure you might not want is better... how?
