I just pulled up my invoice email from Dec. 2012.

Platinum+Tin = $15
Lead(oversized) = $30

shipping = $11.75

I live in FL. State sales tax is 6%. Local county taxes add on another 1.5%, so total is 7.5% sales tax.

The tax charge was $4.26.

I was charged tax on shipping.

Going back another month, it was two figures at $15 each, $10.55 for shipping, $3.06 in tax. So there they didn't even round it right, they charged tax on the shipping and charged me another 2 cents just because they can.

CMIII 08-13-2013 07:05 PM

you know I find it funny that there are people who wont subscribe thinking these figures aren't good enough but they want to Cherry Pick. Thats like boycotting Pepsi and buying Mountain Dew same company gets the money just under a different name

Call them and make them explain. They can because they know nobody will make a big enough stink over it.

CMIII 08-13-2013 08:26 PM

thats not going to do any good they will come up with some BS story. I live in NY so my tax Rate is 8.25% I hope they do not ship Fire till tomorrow night when I add Uncle Sam to my order

Thugnificent 08-13-2013 10:03 PM

Goddamn, Two-Bad is only through subscription? I'd love to own that figure, I had him as a kid. Wow they're really forcing folks hands on whether to subscribe or not if they want that (and likely future others) figure. In a way it's unique for subscribers as it's a solid benefit (and most subscriptions to something have pretty decent bennies to make it worth your while). To anyone else, that sucks to get an affordable figure.

The only real downer I can see (aside from maybe but likely shitty customer service) are stupid high shipping rates to Canada. They'll be a chunk higher than what you 'muricans pay. Quarterly shipping sounds sweet, but I'm wary if the figures don't all come or are busted & Digital River can't replace them.

There are positives and negatives to Mattel's method, you can just see the divide between folks. I applaud the company for providing a unique method to get clearly adult-oriented figures that aren't compromised by the needs of mass retail. With no Batmans or Green Lanterns to produce, I doubt it could survive as is. Companies like Neca do a good job, but far as I can tell most of their lines only run for a couple rounds & don't always head to Wal-Mart. Looking into DCU & MOTUC lines, I appreciate the breadth & consistency of the lines. Not many that have good runs like that. At the same time, I can see why MattyCollector rubs peoples the wrong way.

Also, getting packaged mail is always foolish & brightens the day. Getting a magazine every month adds a little something to the day, and consistent mailed toys monthly is exciting.

What???? That analogy makes no sense.
If a soda costs $38 a pop, you bet I'm going to be picky.
This line is NOT a He-Man line, it encompasses too many lines. I don't want She-Ra barbie dolls. I just want straight-up MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE CLASSICS, you know, they guys from ETERNIA. Not Etheria. Not Princess of Power. She-Ra was fine. Her rainbow winged unicorn was pushing it. But I despise paying $37.26 this month for another doll.

Uh, when the basis of your complaint is that in 2013, very low run exclusive figures aren't as cheap as mass retail runs of figures from 5+ years ago, it kind of is an unreasonable standard.
Especially in 2013, those same retail figures don't come close to the prices you cite, from 5+ years ago.

Wrong.

AMEN! I've told them that on the phone, they said they can't do anything about that. Yes they can; they can get a better programmer.

I'm done with this line, I've been done with them since January when I paid $38 for a figure I REALLY don't care about.
IF the line continues, I'll just cherry pick next year. Less than HALF of the figures are worthy of my money.

No, they'd cost at least $19.99 at retail, because that's the going rate for a well-articulated and accessorized 6" figure these days.

But it's a moot point, because Wal-Mart and Target would laugh the idea of a no-media-support MotU line right out of existence. TRU probably isn't exactly chomping at the bit after it took them two years to get lingering DC/MotU two-packs off their shelves.

They can't even get enough fans to guarantee a low-production-run subscription, but somehow there's a massive market of buyers just waiting to grab them if only they were at retail? Riiiiight.

So you want to pay $45.50 each for 6 (273.00) thats up to you. I think this horse is dead we all have a freedom of choice but I will say that those who do not join who want to pick one or two do what makes you happy but don't try and stop others from doing what makes them happy. In this issue there is no common ground

Walmart is selling them for $15.99. That is what I got TDKR Batman for months ago. Same goes for Aquaman. I refuse to pay that price for Miniseid though.

Well for one, not a single one of them is a doll, just because it's a female. It's still an action figure, same as the male figures. Dolls & Barbies have a clear cut difference from action figures. Also, She-Ra IS part is part of MOTU as are the rest. Core figures you might think are He-Man are really from She-Ra. Mantenna, Hordak, Leech, Grizzlor, etc.. All played larger roles in her cartoon. I for one like all the characters. Who wants an Eternian sausagefest?

yet you keep BEATING THE HORSE into a puddle.
Thugnificent asked a question, I answered it, and then you keep banging on and on and on against my answer.
I never called for a boycott. Your analogy is illogical. And I have no clue what "$45.50 each for 6" is about.

They aren't part of MOTUC either. Teela is part of He-Man.
Sausagefest? Who thinks of SEX with these? They are toys. Maybe it's just my opinion, but He-Man and sex don't mix. I guess I'm the ONLY person that feels this way. I suppose no one else doesn't care for the POP figures. But 8 months in and 2 single figures have been dolls only. At least send a real figure with the doll to make the month mean something.

DHeezy81 08-14-2013 11:09 AM

For one, sausagefest refers to a place where it's mostly, if not all male. Seemingly like the world you'd prefer to live in. lol. Has nothing to do with sex.

Again, these are not dolls. If you're not able to comprehend the difference, well there's no hope for you. When Marvel releases a Black Widow figure in the Legends line, does that make her a doll cuz she's a female character? Dolls have hair, clothes, extremely limited articulation or just down right filled with stuffing.

You don't have to be 100% happy with the line, that's fine. But at least make intelligent arguments rather than just pissing and moaning because "I don't like it, hmph!"

I think everyone has sufficiently made their points and have given the OP a wealth of information to make an informed decision. So I see no reason to get worked up over differences of opinion.

If the invoice says "Shipping & Handling" then they can legally charge you sales tax, as "Handling" is not considered a service and therefore is subject to sales tax. As long as they are able to maintain that the charges for shipping and handling cannot be separated by their invoicing system, then they can effectively charge you for sales tax on shipping. It's a loophole to be sure, but in that particular case it is legal.

They would also rather risk screwing you out of some more money "by accident" than deal with owing the government. At least that's been my experience back when I worked in the retail industry.

Of course, if the invoice simply says "Shipping" then all bets are off. Either way, I'm really curious to hear what Digital River's company line is for this issue.

You are going to seriously tell me that sausage has nothing to do with the sexual organ of the human male?

To be literal these are all dolls. But I'm talking about toys that were geared toward girls. I don't want them. Why would I? The line was full of rainbows and hairplay. Female characters are fine. But the POP was a melon fest, in your terms. More like a rainbow beautyshop fest.

No I don't. If you would just smile and nod your head, this would never happen. The dude asked our opinions. I gave it, but you decided my opinion was wrong. You started this, so you end it with silence, and bugger off.

For once I have to agree with you.

Certain lines of thought here are reminding me of several years ago. I was in walmart looking at the TFs, and a little boy desparately wanted the pink ranger. So much that you could tell she was his favorite one. His mother fairly violently ripped it out of his hands and told him "No! That's a girl's toy! You can't play with girls toys because you're not a girl!" And he started crying.
Poor kid. I can't imagine what it's like growing up around that mindset.

probably a woman that pushed equal rights at that.. I actually a convinced little boy to get Mary Batson DCUC when he couldn't get Superman.

Since my last hint was too subtle, consider this an official warning to everyone.

Everyone needs to take a step back and chill out. Agree to disagree and move on with life.

DHeezy81 08-15-2013 07:49 AM

Oh I'm sorry. I thought this was a place for discussion. Everyone seemed pretty chill to me. There was no name calling or profanity. Just passionate discussion with some slight razzing. Chill out? Take heed to your own words. lol

CMIII 08-15-2013 09:11 AM

he's right Dheeze. I already put 1 person on my ignore over this. Yes you have a right to speak there are times when you shouldn't. we should let this die till Tuesday when the subs pass or fail then just post if they did or didn't and move on.

It was becoming increasingly off-topic and personal. Some may see it as friendly banter, others may not. I would prefer it not become an issue at all.

Jotaro Kujo 08-15-2013 11:25 PM

With the emergence of MotUC at Big Lots, and how fast they sell, no one can tell me there isn't a market for MotU at retail. Most retailers may not want it, but I guarantee they could convince TRU that they could carry them.

And the MSRP of all non-Black Series lines isn't $20, it's $15 - $16. Just look at Amazon's pricing. (Their own, not non-Amazon.com retailers) They sell at MSRP.
