Picture this... each wave consisting of ONE Batman figure, and the rest of the wave consisting of his supporting characters and his rogues gallery. ONE BATMAN. Even that has the potential of going wrong, but at least it will happen at a slower rate.

I expect the Total Garbage line to be gone by Summer 2015 and for that Batman thing likely to be a 1 and Done.

What I find interesting is people who wouldn't buy into the Club line who are complaining about Total Heroes line. You can't have it both ways you wanted a Retail Line and you got it accept what you getting but it's your own fault your not getting what you want. By the way there is no perfect way to get anything as far as I am concearned the stores around do not sell action figures becuase they wont put them out

And you think complaining about us constantly is going to change things? We don't care that Matty didn't make the deadline. You'll live.

No, a lot of people have the same issue. Some choose to suck it up and roll the dice. Others go through e-tailers like our site sponsor BBTS.

(and yes, that was a shameless plug)

One has absolutely nothing to do with the other. I like DC comics, I'm a fan of Batman and an even bigger fan of his rogues gallery. But I didn't really like DCUC. It didn't matter whether it was at retail or through CIE.

I don't like Total Heroes, either. But I'm not about to crap in someone's cornflakes simply because they disagree with me.

In fact, I'd almost bet money that Total Heroes was coming to retail regardless of the fate of CIE. It's not like they couldn't have made both simultaneously, assuming the goal had been reached.

Then the Batman in each wave could be - gasp - an actual variant costume since they wouldn't burn through them all in the first wave.

It'll never happen - it makes too much sense but not enough cents.

CMIII 09-12-2013 11:37 AM

I'm not trying to say they wouldn't have. Really Mattel killed a good portion of their Fan base. Lets be honest How many of us buy 4 inch, 6 inch of DC and Marvel, as well as All DCC, and all of other companies. I bet its very few maybe only 1 in 100 people do that. If you asked how many buy 1 particular line it's a lot more. The new Mattel Total Garbage line will appeal to 1 age group 5 - 10 year olds. The DCUC/DCSH lines appealed to Kids and Collectors thats rare and Mattel threw that away, even Hasbro cannot claim that. I meant that Total heroes will be gone next year by July 1 namely because is set up to fail.

As for doing Batman/Gotham only I got news for Mattel and everyone here He's not the only DC Character there is. Stop jamming 5,000 Batman varients down my throat when Variety is the Spice of Life. Even Dr. Kain has said he wants new figures for characters not yet out. These redundant Batman waves and figures need to stop. If Mattel would stop wasting time on an Old figure in a new Package then maybe just maybe they wouldn't have trouble getting fan support (also Marvel Legends should listen to this before they end up going down this path

scarecrow 09-12-2013 12:31 PM

On topic though, yeah, these aren't looking so hot.

Mastersteef 09-12-2013 12:48 PM

The Total Heroes look pretty good in my opinion, the articulation is decent and I like the stylized look of these (Batman Beyond is going to look awesome) not to mention my son is going to love them.
The only problem I have is with the 4" line, I like the character selection as it will be cool to have 4" versions of the Arkham characters. My only complaint is the articulation scheme namely the absence of bicep swivels on all of them, I really don't understand why they left that POA out. If they can fix that in later waves then I will be looking forward to the line.

CMIII 09-12-2013 02:10 PM

Go to the Mattycollector web page forum everyone has basically told Mattel this line is a waste of time. This series is going to lose Money hand over fist. These are not great figures for Collectors in any way shape or form.

Crazy Jetty 09-12-2013 04:11 PM

I actually like the Total Heroes. If I were a kid I'd be all over them. Like the DCAU figures, I may cherry pick characters that mean something to me.
Just because a toyline is intended for kids, doesn't automatically mean it's horrible and sucks. All the toys that got us into toys were kids toylines.
Again, don't like it, don't buy it. Bitching and annoying people who want to have a discussion is not going to get mattel to stop making them. Only not buying them will.

As for DC Multiverse, which is prooven to be a collector oriented line, has massive appeal to me. They look like the only thing they lack from DCUC are bicep swivles. And on this tiny a scale, that's a non issue.
However, I'm afraid this is another DCIH launch all over. They killed that line from the get go by making the first two waves out of 3rd stringers. Very limited appeal, which shut out most, if not all casual collectors. This time, they're hyperfocusing the line with Batman Videogame characters, then making a jump to old movies. Again shutting out casual collectors. I don't play videogames, I don't really have a need to own an Arkham Assylem Joker. But I would have been all over a traditional Joker.
Withought starting with the broadest appeal, and then starting to get into the more specific hardcore fan orented stuff like Arkham, movies, and C-Listers, I'm afraid this will be a repeat of DCIH all over again.

CMIII 09-12-2013 04:55 PM

Masterteef it appears as if they wanted to go with something a Little sturdier for the target Group of these figures so they are less likely to break when Played with.

Poison Shadow 09-12-2013 06:00 PM

It's always a shame to see so many people who don't seem to understand the concept of respecting the opinions of others. Alas, this is the internet. Nothin' but serious business here!

Personally, I don't have a problem with Total Heroes existing, nor am I angry about it replacing DC Universe - because, c'mon people, knowing how long it takes to discuss, design, get liscenser approval, produce, and then ship a toyline... well, clearly this line was going to happen whether DCUC crashed and burned or not. It was never intended as a replacement, it just kind of turned out that way. That's how it seems to me, anyway.

Having not given it much thought until now, the Multiverse line might be something I can get into. I stopped buying Marvel Universe because of how expensive they became, even as accessories and bases were taken away. I still have my collection, however, so the occasional figure (like the new Mr. Freeze, for example) will probably be added to my giant 3.75" superhero battle shelf along with a few of the DCC Injustice figures.

And hell, if a couple of those 6" Power Attack figures managed to catch my eye (I bought the first Robin and planned on buying the deluxe Bane, though he's currently MIA) then I won't rule out the possibility that a TH figure besides Batman Beyond could end up in my hands.

CMIII 09-12-2013 06:33 PM

Back on Topic The Total line is not for everyone like I said Mattel is gearing it for one group and that simple like wise the Batman Line while nice is also geared for one group it's sad Mattel went this route but I do not blame them for it. Honestly I wanted the Club Figures so when the Total Heroes line and Multiverse, and this Batman Game line get cancelled. I could care less it's just another way for Mattel to make another 45 versions of the same character over and over again and for people who don't care about having the same figure every other series but I am not going to waste my money on something that Really aren't that great.

Specter 09-12-2013 08:04 PM

Have we seen good pics of the 4inch line yet?

Kernel 09-12-2013 08:20 PM

They are coming out with a 4" batman beyond? I gotta get me one of those. I don't think there has been a really good batman in the 4" scale before, so I'll probably get a few of the figures in the multiverse line. Batman is a money maker for DC and mattel due to his popularity. I'm all for lesser known characters getting some toy aisle space, but I'm just not sure something like a granny goodness figure would do very well at retail.

No, the Batman Beyond figure we've been mentioning is a part of the Total Heroes line, which is 6" figures.

Oh man I was hoping for it to be 4". I just googled it and it does look pretty cool, still gonna have to get a 6" batman beyond. I think it would be hard to mess up a simple character design like that as long as they didn't make it with really odd proportions. Thanks for the info Ravenxl7.

I know the Total heroes line was not originally planned to be a replacement but now even Mattel is saying they are. The bad thing is the Line is going to tank because they do not compare to what came before and they will be compared. I do feel bad for the Kids who would love these but when the sales numbers come in and Mattel posts it's biggest loss ever the line will get killed

No problem. It can get kinda confusing when you have two threads discussing two separate news pieces.

Shin Densetsu 09-13-2013 11:29 PM

I think Total Heroes was made in an effort to cater to younger audiences(notice how the sculpts are similar to the current Evergreen 6" Batman line on shelves) while cutting costs where possible(for example, sculpting in-house instead of getting the 4H to sculpt these). FWIW I think the figures look decent, the increased articulation already makes them more appealing than the Evergreen Batman figures, to me.

There's no way I would pick them over DCUC/Unlimited but it seems that the overall line in its various incarnations(Unlimited) was not getting as much brick & mortar retailer support as hoped. It doesn't help that some stores like Walmart and Kmart still have a substantial amount of DCUC left over from last year, not moving. If anything I think we were fortunate to get as many characters made into the line as there were. Most kids won't recognize Toyman, Captain Boomerang, Kamandi and the like but there they were on shelves for us at a reasonable price.

I don't think it's an issue of us not voting with our wallets, there's simply just not enough of us out there to sustain the lines while providing enough money for Mattel to make a profit, they are in a business to sell toys overall. I'm not trying to blame any side. The situation isn't ideal at all for us but given how things are currently, I don't really see anything improving much.

I am excited for Multiverse but worry about the quality. The scale is good, these should fit in better than the tiny DCIH figures did. I just hope it sells well enough to go beyond the 1st waves to expand past Batman and Superman. It would be a shame if Mattel does not handle this anywhere near as well as their Imaginext DC toys. That line has had the best vehicle/playset/figure integration I've seen in several years.

Total Heroes are no replacement for DCUC/Unlimited, but for kids, they have far more appeal than the gimmick laden, minimally articulated Evergreen Batman line.

CMIII 09-14-2013 05:22 AM

the main reason Multiverse will ultimatly fail will be because of Batman/Superman effect after the Movie. Comic Book Movies a big right now but eventually thats going to stop. As for the cancellation of a good DC 6 inch line people really thought it was a ploy even after Both Mattel and 4H told you it wasn't and it wasn't they were Transparent on that. We will know in less then 30 if the 6 inch collectors will get anything or if Mattel loses Money and Customers

Poison Shadow 09-14-2013 11:16 AM

Y'know, the more I look at that 4" Bane the more it grows on me. The only problem I have with it (the line in general, so far) is the lack of bicep swivels. I think I'll buy at least one, try to add those joints, maybe sand off the lips and paint the mask to look more like Bane's usual comic appearance, and end up with a really badass figure.

And from the first time that AC armored Batman was shown off, I've said it would make a great stand-in for Injustice Bats if you can do a Baleman head-swap. I just hope the lightning isn't permanently attached - so if it isn't, I'll probably throw him in with my DCC Injustice toys if the scale matches up.

So there's some custom potential, at least.

Maverick 09-14-2013 07:40 PM

I like the total heroes line. I'll be picking up most of them for my son. He always wants to open my DC direct figures and this will give him more kid friendly versions. Mattel couldn't sell enough figures to keep a collector line going at this point might as well target toys to kids then right? 4 inch line seems cool,I'll prolly cherry pick my favorites from it.

Hey that Bane is looking pretty sharp. I'm interested in Multiverse, but like everyone else, hope they can find a good balance between Batman, Superman, and the rest of the DCU. Seems like this line is based more around themes. I'm most excited by the potential for more figures than a 6" line would have, but especially vehicles and playsets. I'd love a number of the movie Batmobiles ('89, Forever, Begins, etc.) to be in this scale for the figures. I think it has a lot of potential. I wait.

Total Heroes is alright, but not quite my cup of tea either. For kids, they are awesome. And really, the odds that kids would be buying DCUC or the Unlimited lines these days is probably low. My TRU sells the Unlimited figures for $22.99 up here in the Canada, and I consider that pretty steep for a dude who has a job unlike some little dude who has to convince his mum it's a good deal. I applaud Mattel, I think the smaller line & kid-oriented 6" line will give them some momentum and not the start-and-crash the Unlimited lines seemed to have suffered.

Poison Shadow 10-05-2013 07:09 AM

Huh. I didn't expect the packaging to look like a mini version of the Unlimited lines. That's kinda slick. Congrats on the freebie! That's pretty cool.
