I'd have to see these in person first. The movie looks fun enough for a ticket, but I'm not entirely sold on the merchandising yet. Would also have to see how they look compared to other 4 inch scaled figures. (These would go to my movie/S.H.I.E.L.D. shelf if I got them.)

TheLongestDay 05-07-2014 01:48 AM

Soooooooooooo are these 4" or not?

If they are I can see myself picking some up just because Im a sucker for that scale - plus if that April is GI JOE scale that head would make a great Cover Girl.

Optimus Neeson 05-07-2014 02:32 AM

These are not 4 inch scale. No TMNT toys have ever been. They're somewhere between 5 and 6 inches. Remember, scale doesn't mean size. Scale means proportion. 4 inch scale means a 6-foot man shrunken down to 4 inches. Most TMNT figures are between 4 and 4/5 inches tall; factoring in that they're short characters, a 6-foot man would be about 5.5 inches tall. So that's the scale, somewhere between 5 and 6 inches.

Granted, the turtles in this new movie are enormous, like 6 feet tall, and possibly more. That means you can use their height as a scale standard. If the toys turn out to be taller than 4 inches, that means the scale is bigger than 4 inches.

Let me put it this way then,if April and Shredder are compatible with the standard Marvel Universe/GI Joe size figures then I will be picking them up.

That's probably the best way to go with it. Wait until they hit stores or we get size comparison shots before pulling the trigger.

So comparing apples and oranges makes you sad, huh? ;)

Seriously, you simply cannot compare a mass-produced, factory-made toy to a one-off custom figure made by a single individual. They are so far apart in terms of budget, restrictions, regulations and a host of other things that even attempting to do so is a ludicrous proposition.

Umm..yeah..pass...

I took it that he meant why is it that an individual can make a great custom figure yet the big boys even in mass production cant make decent figures. Lets be real..some of the big boy figures are pure junk..yet I still buy it...I need a drink now!!

I already said why, but if you want a breakdown it's because an individual doesn't have to:

1. Design the toy, including articulation, gimmicks and/or accessory counts
1. Make that design adhere to a budget largely based on a fixed price point,
2. Figure out how to get all the parts and pieces needed to assemble the figure to fit into as few moulds as possible (also dictated by the given budget),
3. Follow numerous laws and industry regulations for one or more countries that he/she plans to do business in during the R&D phase,
4. Get retailers to buy the products to resell in their stores,
5. Communicate with factories that will actually be manufacturing the finished product,
6. Have those factories produce hundreds of thousands of them at a time, including packaging and shipping materials,
7. Monitor QC levels of the production based on his/her company's established standards,
8. Coordinate the shipment of the finished product to said retailers based on orders placed,
9. Pray they perform well enough at retail that the retailers continue to request more product, and
10. Answer to stockholders/higher-ups if the company ends up losing money on the product.

TL;DR Like I said, apples and oranges.

TimothyR 05-07-2014 09:23 PM

i'm excited for these.. i'll definitely be getting the four turtles and shredder.. for some reason i never pick up splinter and april.. so i most likely won't be getting those.

it's a shame that the CG designs are so detailed, it's practically impossible to recreate that on a toy this scale. same goes for the new transformers figures, the designs have become too complex and toy designers basically need to hide a robot under a vehicle shell then try and figure out how to move those pieces out of the way in robot mode.

anyways. i like the designs of the turtles, i appreciate that they've taken a different take on them than we've seen before. i mean, there are PLENTY of other turtle designs that look really similar to each other, just with different styles.. these are a completely new take on them. i don't understand what the problem with that is. same goes for the new transformers movie, i don't understand why people basically want the characters to look identical to their G1 selves.. we already had those designs. some people just need to appreciate change.

my only complaint is that i wish shredder's helmet was more accurate and that he wasn't sleeveless.. otherwise he looks pretty badass.

i completely agree. there's no way companies mass producing products can compete with customizers. it's just not possible.

I hear what you are saying but in my opinion these are just ugly designs, I dont find them appealing at all.

They seem like they got halfway through the design process and thought "eff it,lets just use these ones". I think the looks couldve been refined - the whole thing just seems rushed.

Foreddyn 05-08-2014 09:08 AM

I will pick them up if they are bigger than Joes, I have always seen the turtles as big mutants anyway. I just hope the weapons aren't too big when side by side with other 1/18 like the current ones are.

I still can't get over that Shredder is a 'gaijin' though...and the razor cape, I want to see him use it.

luigicesare 05-08-2014 09:40 PM

still cannot filled up the shoes and quite compared to it's awesome Nickelodeon counterpart, esp Shredder (I love Shredder), Nick version are more LEGIT than this version (fu*k Americanized shredder) , just by looking at the toy itself...

hey, that's your opinion. i really like the designs in the movie.. but i think whoever sculpted the toys translated the movie designs VERY poorly.

i think the only straight up bad looking figure is mikey.. raph looks great.. i'm a sucker for leo, so i'm biased. and donnie just seems really neat, same with his design in the movie.

i'm REALLY curious to see how this movie turns out. though, i'm not a big fan of megan fox being in the movie.. she's such a horrible actress.. like, she's cringeworthy. .. and i'm REALLY forgiving to acting in movies. so, i guess we'll see if she ruins it or not.

should be a great summer though.. transformers, godzilla, turtles..

I'm guessing that since the movie is due out early August, they will be released before then. I will check them out in stores to see how they look. but don't have much interest myself...

Ash from Carolina 05-09-2014 09:08 PM

Looking like the movie and everything related to it is going to be a big pass for me. Love the current cartoon but just nothing appealing so far about the movie and it's merchandising.

Grippen 05-10-2014 06:08 AM

April is ok hope it's MU and Joe scale. If that happens I may pick some turtles although I'm not a big fan of this design.

Optimus Neeson 06-20-2014 05:50 AM

I saw them at Walmart. Although the Foot Soldier and Shredder are larger in toy form, in the movie, the turtles are huge and tall - so the toys are not correct scale. That said, the turtles are actually almost the perfect scale for 3.75" GI Joe and Marvel Universe toys.
