what with this being set like 25 years later story-wise

That's a popular misconception. The game actually takes place over the span of 25 years after the events of MK9, which end around MK3. Teasers from the upcoming MKX comic have revealed the kamidogu will be part of the story. It sounds like MKX will span from MK4 through Deception/Armageddon, which may happen differently now that Raiden skewed the timeline in MK9.

It's not really a misconception if it's what Ed Boon has been saying. The story starts immediately after MK 9 and then soon jumps to 25 years later, I don't think anyone has stated that you play through those years but rather it just flashes forward. Nothing is for sure until the game is available to everyone, but it seems set that the "main" time area is 25 years later.

Most likely it either won't be Kuai Liang or they'll say when he was revived it was in his natural form. I don't know, it kind of pissed me off when most of the heroes just got killed towards the end of the game.

I was all on board with MK9's story until they turned Subby in to a cyborg. Not cool. And then they murdered 95% of the roster. It was still fun though. Can't deny that.

I'm kinda wondering if it ends up being Bi Han some how. They haven't announced Noob yet so it could be a possibility.

I think it'll be Kuai Liang brought back from the dead by Quan Chi which has restored his original body (maybe a cyborg can't be brought back but flesh and bones can). Story-wise Bi Han was last seen being thrown into the soulnado thing and being apparently ripped apart by it, I would think if a wraith dies he just wakes up again in the Netherealm like Kenny from South Park.

Neat, didn't know about all that. I've honestly not been keeping up with this game so much since I don't even have a next-gen console to play it on. I will say that all of these new characters are very non-MK to me they just seem bland and dull compared to the cheesy and fun characters we usually get from the series. Aztec dude named Khan who has nothing to do with Shao Khan, Big guy with a kid on his back wearing dull brown colors with nothing distinctive other than being big, and the bug lady who at first was kinda neat but has become less and less intriguing. I already like MK 9 more just because it gathered the essential rosters of MK through MK3 and didn't introduce any new fighters (not counting add-ons).

Trivial Psychic 11-26-2014 11:51 AM

In the case of Sub Zero, since the name is not so much attached to a single person, and is more of a mantle, it wouldn't surprise me if it is neither of the brothers from the original games. His son, or the current leader of the clan perhaps?

I really hope that this line flourishes, and we get Quan Chi (my fave MK character of all time) Jax, and Reptile. I know that the latter two haven't been announced just yet (although Boon's recent clues hint at Jax being next on the roster to come.) I was initially never a fan of Jax, but I really enjoyed the character in MK9, design and playability wise. He was just so much fun, and that figure of him that recently came out....ugh. Mr. Briggs deserves better.

As for Reptile...well, he's the original secret boss until Capcom started milking secret bosses every chance they got. Being that he is also part of a race, wouldn't be to hard to bring him back. Maybe as Khameleon? Either way, I've always had a soft spot for the green guy.

Dude, you gotta start reading up. MKX will be on PS3 and Xbox 360, as well. It won't look as good, and will probably be missing certain features, but they are porting it to last-gen consoles.

I guess I really am dropping out on reading up on this then. I still might not get it since all of my friends switched to next-gen or only play steam now and just playing latter mode or online with strangers is never as fun as playing with friends (and I don't have online play anymore).

I forgot about the soulnado bit. Yeah Bi Han's probably superdead after that.

I thought of that as a possibility too.

I'm hoping Cyrax and Reptile make it back as well. Next to Subs McKenzie they've been favorites for a long time.

Nifty

Phantomcrow 02-26-2015 11:19 AM

I really want to like these, but until I see them get past series 1 I will not commit to buying any.

Series 2 was revealed at Toy Fair.

snake5289 02-26-2015 11:34 AM

I'm just bummed that the 4 inch versions aren't out till September. I'm getting the Raiden for sure.

The Kitana, Quan Chi, and Kotal Kahn they showed at Toyfair are going to be in that size too right?

Most likely yes. They're going for parity across all the sizes. I'm curious about the 12" versions myself.

snake5289 02-26-2015 11:44 AM

*high-pitched squeal* Finally a good Kitana and a Quan Chi to go with the rest of the 4 inch MK figures I've got/made. Doesn't hurt that I really like both of their new designs.

And Kotal Kahn looks like he'll be cool in the game so getting him is an added bonus.

donmeca2020 02-27-2015 10:32 PM

I might end up jumping on some of these !! i've been reading the MKX comic from DC since it came out, and more then likely the game should be good. i guess im just ol school considering i've been playing this series of game since the first one back on the genesis.

Anybody know how the articulation would be on these? i've heard Mezco toys aren't too moveable or poseable.

snake5289 02-28-2015 12:15 AM

They look pretty posable from the pictures.

A great deal of Mezco's early toys are like many of NECA's earlier ones, serving better as slightly pose-able statues. That's not to say that they had no capability though, Mezco's 3.75" Cinema of Fear figures were very pose-able at that, and looked pretty good to boot (especially their Jason Voorhees figure...)

That said, like NECA before them, it doesn't mean that Mezco cannot step up their game articulation wise. Official descriptions to companies like BBTS are listing these figures as and I quote: "Mezco’s 6inch scale version features 23 points of articulation, many with ball joints, allowing them to recreate all the moves and poses that have made them part of gaming legend."

The pictures show a pretty good range. While I haven't been a fan of some of the character designs (I really think SZ and Kano look ugly) I'm on board, especially because my favorite character in the series, Quan Chi,is coming up in wave 2. Woolay!

jmurray90720 02-28-2015 06:26 AM

I'm dying for that Kitana. Unbelievable that this is only her third figure ever and first in the 6 inch scale. They really should have led with her IMO.

This is one of the things that I really feel Mezco is getting right with this line. While the first wave of figures is pretty much par for the course and what to expect in terms of character selection at launch, the second wave really thought outside the box and gave us three characters that I would not have expected to see until waves 4 or 5, if they would have ever gotten that far.

It's been one of the things that plagues toy lines based off of popular video games (staring at you Street Fighter.) Many of these lines don't survive in the long run, or even get off the ground for that matter because they give us the same rehashed characters over and over again in a dreadfully predictable manner. We have seen this happen time and time again to Street Fighter (most recently with Capo Toys failed Kickstarter campaigns) where people just don't want to pluck down more money for yet another Ryu, Akuma, or Ken figure, not especially when there are almost 100 characters throughout the game's history that they could choose at this point (with SF 4 having over 40 by itself...)

I would have expected to get Kano, Kung Lao, Johnny (or Cassie) Cage or some sort of variant SZ or Scorpion in the second wave, but instead, Mezco thought a little bit outside the box here, giving us two characters never immortalized in plastic before, one of them being new to the series, along with a fan favorite who has been passed over time and time again in the past. Hopefully the line takes off and does well, so they can fully flesh out the roster the way that SOTA did so many years ago with Street Fighter.

snake5289 02-28-2015 01:41 PM

Couldn't agree more. When they release wave 2 in the 4 inch scale I definitely plan to get all three.

I'd love it if they made an MK9 Sonya. Her and Sub-Zero have been my favorites since all the way back in MK1. Who knows maybe she'll show up in MKX. I know she's made an appearance in the comic tie-in but I don't know if she's part of the big picture.

jmurray90720 02-28-2015 01:44 PM

With what they are doing with Injustice, I think Bandai's SH Figuarts might be an awesome way for MK to finally get the figure treatment it deserves. I don't think licensing would be an issue, they make figures of tons of properties with lower end toy lines by other companies. Again though, character selection would be key. Kitana has been my go to since MK2, so I have a massive bias but a Figuarts UMK3 Kitana with alternate facial expressions (angry, stoic), three sets of fans (open, closed, open and bloody), several sets of hands and a stage to replicate all of her signature moves (square punch, fan lift, fan toss) is my dream figure. Obviously the same treatment could be given to Scorpio and Sub Zero and probably be better received than any previous figure ever, I'm just sick of them. Mileena is right up there with her, and would be an easy repaint. Just give her an unmasked face and three sets of sais (regular, mid throw with pink energy trail, bloody). I'd pay $100 for that two pack, easy.

Not to veer entirely away from the excitement. I'm taking what we are getting and liking it, I just have really high quality standards for figures these days, and believe MK to be a profitable franchise in the collector market if done properly.
