Deadpool was a bit of a gamble so they'd probably wait for Apocalypse to come out anyway and release a general X-men line with related characters to both movies. No news of any Apocalypse figs and I imagine they'll be crappy 5PoA like the Wolverine figs. Still - better than nothing if it means getting something cool like a Copycat or movie Mystique.

The Legends Deadpool from the X-man Legends Wave looks pretty good to me. I just started getting into legends, and he'll definitely be my deadpool since the last Legends-pool is too expensive everywhere. Anyways, Movie Deadpools costume was pretty close to comic Deadpool, so unless you are picky, that should make some people happy (like me)

Idk why but it seems like the last time we got a big selection for figures from a Marvel movie was Spiderman 2. Idk wtf happened after that, but I suspect it has something to do with Toybiz going out of business. (RIP)

It's the venders, not Hasbro that's playing a big role. The stores were quite verbal in not wanting Avengers merchandise to the point there were articles in newspapers about it at the time.




Spiderman 3 happened. The movie didn't do well, wasn't received well, and the toy line was a multi-million dollar loss all around. Then after Green Lantern bombed in every way possible, superhero movie toys practically became radioactive in the minds of most venders and their purchasers, which partly fed into the lack of merchandise even to this day.

They don't want to take the chance that they'll have pegs of unsaleable product on a loss leader when shelf space is so vital. So when you've got a string of proven failures, it makes them very unwilling to risk the order again in the future and those purchasers are reported to have very long memories.

Remember, Hasbro doesn't make their product for us to buy, they sell it to stores, the stores determine what we get, which we help prove them right or not by buying. Heck, until not that long ago it was illegal for any company like Hasbro to sell direct to the customer, so both the consumer and the creator was dependent on the purchaser to even get the product made. The market is changing and we have a lot more options and our voice is far better heard, but it's still not that far removed from how it was done for the last few decades just due to the quantity of sales the market 6 (or 12) do.

So these few and far between movie figures are probably the best they can do. Do you really think Hasbro just doesn't want to make all the Avengers from a mega-blockbuster movie and sell them all to you?

I've also heard people say that some of the Iron Man movies hurt the trend because there was such an insane amount of merchandise for IM3 (many of them for suits that only showed up for like 3 seconds in the actual movie) that a lot of stores were left with a bunch of peg warmers.

Hardcore adult collectors really love all those variant armors but I have to imagine parents draw the line sometime after buying their kid their fourth Iron Man figure from the same movie.

I think there will be a deadpool movie version figure produced, but i think it more then likely won't be a hasbro or marvel select toy. more then likely i can see Neca tackling this, same as they did a Leger joker, christopher reeves superman etc. they are the only company so far that i have seen make any figures that have exact likeness to their movie counterparts.

also as someone else stated definitely there will be a side show collectible verison as well. the only thing with that is not everyone is going to want to pay 300 bucks for a toy.

NECA can't unless Fox has the same loophole rule that WB does.

I think the problem with the Spider-Man 3 toy selection was the fact that the first two films toylines cemented the 6 inch scale, then they made a switch to five inches for the third and they lost a lot of revenue from people who wanted to add new versions of Kraven, Rhino, Mysterio, Blck cat, etc... to their collections. They tried to do damage control later with that Sandman BAF series but since half the figures were straight re-releases of figures people probably already had, mixed with sub-par sculpts and wonky articulation for the new figures, they really shot themselves in the foot :P

Mattel holds master toy rights for pretty much everything DC, they have a say in what other companies are allowed to do and typically only allow for stuff that isn't considered direct competition. It appears DCC is the exception but this would be because they are DC. NECA was able to release their 7" DC movie figures because they worked with WB and were able to label the figures as something along the lines of promotional items. The intended deal (which TRU chose not to follow exactly but that was their decision) was that you'd buy the DVD and the figure was your bonus. This worked around Mattel's position since they weren't technically being sold as just toys and thus weren't competition. If NECA on their own had just decided to make a line of 7" DC figures then they would be open to legal repercussions. I'm fairly sure there are a bunch of smaller details like number of figures produced that also played into the whole deal but at the end of the day NECA was able to produce figures that they would normally never be allowed to.

The point I was initially making is that unless Fox goes to NECA or provides some kind of similar promotion then NECA doesn't have permission to make 7" Marvel figures.

Um... SM3 was a commercial success. It made the most money of the Maguire movies and the toys sold pretty well. Critically, it was panned, and some butthurt fans complained about it, but overall, MOST people enjoyed it.

The movies that killed a lot of the superhero toy market was Ironman 2 & 3, since there wasn't a huge change in cast, therefore the toys looked the same, and the batman films. Companies love movie-tie in product when it's new and different. Not so much when it's the same thing over and over.

The other thing killing the action figure industry is the fact kids don't want toys anymore. They want ipods. They want Nintendo DS. You go to TRU and you see more middle-aged neckbeards than you see 8 year olds.

As a parent, I try to buy my boys action figures all the time, so they have SOME exposure to classic inventive imagination.

Well since the chances of getting a movie Deadpool toy are next to zero I decided not to skip the opportunity to pick up the Marvel Select Deadpool today at Hastings. He's pretty good overall for a Select figure but his ankles are very loose and he's not technically 100% accurate to the character's design since the black under his arms doesn't run down to his thighs. Thankfully he comes with a cool base to support him and then he's still definitely Deadpool in appearance and weaponry (of which he has a lot). So if you're a Deadpool fan who's itching for a collector oriented figure then it's the best fit right now.
