Well that sucks... I really wish Viacom would take away the master license Playmate's has. Assuming they could do that.

Captainkrabs 05-23-2016 01:00 PM

As I'm not an expert on those licensing issues, could someone explain to me how Bandai is allowed to produce SH Figuarts TMNT if NECA can't get figures to retail stores?

Because SH naturally cost a lot more and are immediately considered high end collectibles, they have to be imported in the first place. NECA on the other hand retails for around $20 and can be found in the same stores as the Playmates toys so at that point their intended consumers don't matter because their presence could represent a threat to Playmates, thus NECA isn't allowed to normally produce TMNT figures.

Love the figs and the boxes, now I want to play this game tonight. I can already hear the theme song in my head!

Figured as much, but still a bit disappointing. I just want some good Turtles figures that won’t cost me a small fortune.

While the high end collector market gets flooded with Turtles the casual collector has to choose between... nothing actually. There's only Playmates and Playmates is a joke nowadays.

305Batman 05-23-2016 01:31 PM

MEH...Call me when they release non-arcade versions.

suchaname 05-23-2016 02:09 PM

I seriously doubt I could ever justify the eBay etc prices for these, not for what an entire set is likely to go for (never mind two).

CoolToysOnly 05-23-2016 02:38 PM

Cowabunga! Awesome

With DC, I can pick up DC Collectibles if I don't like Mattel's offerings. If I don't care for Hasbro, I can buy Marvel Select. Where is my option for a reasonably priced TMNT collectible figure?

The Playmates Classic Collection is a sad attempt at cornering that market, with repeated releases of the four Turtles and no supporting cast or villains, and priced about $5 higher than the quality suggests they should be.

I agree, Playmates is stupid. All they ever release are the four turtles. I'm glad First Gokin is around and will hopefully pick up steam. This is what happens when too many business people get involved. Playmates is worried about another company cutting into their profits, and for some insane reason they scrapped or are not going to do the classics line anymore. There are tons of companies doing classics stuff. Well, I hope I can snag these guys somehow, if not I'm sure they will get the KO treatment.

Thank you. Makes sense!

Startaiger 05-23-2016 03:41 PM

So Awesome!!
Now you tell me how people who can't go to SDCC could get these without selling both kidneys?!!!

Robogeek28 05-23-2016 04:08 PM

While I have no interest in the arcade deco, I would've loved to have seen a retail release in normal colors.

Ah well, money saved.

Tokyomeltdown 05-23-2016 04:39 PM

Worst. News. Ever. SDCC only? you've got to be joking, everybody wants these!!! So glad I haven't given Playmates a single dime since their original 80s TMNT line, their total disregard for the collector market is mind boggling.

But has NECA really gone to all this trouble, just to sell a few thousand units at a stupid convention? Hope we're not being lied to (as so often happens), about an eventual retail release...

Joe Moore 05-23-2016 04:42 PM

My guess is a second exclusive set for NYCC, which they are actually attending this year. They just said on Twitter they can't do anything with this scale outside of at Con sales.

webz 05-23-2016 04:59 PM

Well, I'm not going to San Diego, and I'm definitely not paying eBay prices, so I'm just going to hope that some seedy, soulless Chinese factory gets a hold of the molds and makes a few billion sets at $40 each.

Maybe in toon colors?

If so, I may bite then.

graphyt 05-23-2016 05:54 PM

Ugh. I hate the thought of how much these are going to cost on the secondary market. Playmates has good reason to worry, these look like they'll trounce anything Playmates put out.

VashTS 05-23-2016 07:11 PM

I know I will get hated but the only way we will get these is through bootleggers. No other way as most of us will not attend SDCC. I hate that I say that but no other way. I know someone else eluded to KO's, which sucks to admit but I will buy it.

RoboZib 05-23-2016 07:18 PM

I was pretty excited about these until I saw they were Con exclusives. I really don't see the point of even releasing these, especially since the molds themselves are going to be available to such a small amount of people. I'd understand if we were going to get these molds in a different deco for mass release, but that doesn't look like the case. The purpose of these sets are more than likely going to be reserved to being swiped up, and sold for exorbitant amounts on the second hand market. So the "this is the only way we could get them to collectors" point is moot IMHO. I wouldn't be surprised if the entire line of SH Figuarts Turtles end up being cheaper than getting a hold of just one of these sets! NECA is slowly becoming one of my least favorite companies in the collecting realm, and this "fiasco" just solidifies that even more. So yeah, screw this set, and screw convention exclusives.

PanicPuppet92 05-23-2016 07:22 PM

Its sounds like more bad news than good. We'll finally get a Shredder that's above and beyond "decent", and he'll only be available to those with tons of disposable income once the ebay sales start up. :/

I can guarantee you that that Shredder box set will be going easily for two or three times its retail value within minutes of it being released on the secondary market, making it impossible to finally get the definitive Shredder that we've been waiting for for years. I really hope they plan on releasing this at some point in the future.

well considering they are saying it won't go to retail, or even the club site by sounds of it, I wouldn't get your hopes up bro

buy both? Sell the ones that aren't as good or keep both if they both rock. The justification you can use can be they are both from different continuity's and have different things that are good about both ;)

NECA said the same thing about the Keaton Batman, and they found not one, but 2 ways of getting us that figure (3 if you count the 18 inch one,) so while it could be getting my hopes up, it wouldn't surprise me to see NECA give these another crack in standard NES colors further down the line should these sell well and public outcry be loud enough. While not the same licensing situation, they did manage to re-release the SDCC Jason Voorhees (with a slightly different scheme and box.)

A second edition box set in NES colors with an NES theme that plays when you open the box flap would be awesome.

So, I'm guessing no selling on BBTS

These are gonna sell like hot cakes dude, no doubt about it. This is such a bummer, I am starting to hate convention exclusives, all they do is end up on E-Bay for jacked up prices. I would love these but if I don't its no loss, something else will come along and Mondo stuff looks awesome.

Not unless BBTS has people pre-order or buys at con themselves.
