lol I saw an opening...
|
Wow, that is horrible looking. Like worst Godzilla design ever. It just looks so disproportionate and goofy. It's like what you would expect to see growing in a tank before it's finished forming or something and what's up with the joker mouth? Me thinks it's time for harakiri!
|
That's the stuff nightmares are made of.
|
It's been stated in various interviews that Big G will go through a number of different forms over the course of the film. This is the first, or one of the early forms. Definitely looks creepy. Anyone familiar with Neon Genesis Evangelion can see Anno-san's and Higuchi-san's influence in this design. I dig it. I think it's visually interesting. Anxious to see the other forms/stages.

Is it just me, or does this thing look like it's in a state of pure agony? Like, this thing looks like it would scream if any part of it came into contact with any amount of salt.

This design is growing on me. Hope I don't have to wait a year to see the new movie!

New member, long time lurker. This post needs a bump.
Shin won't be released by Bluefin stateside, so only way to grab him is to import. Hopefully the trademark nonsense will be taken care of if this figure ever gets a re-release. |

"they've been trying to cut a deal to get it to NA (North America). Time is money, and Tamashii Nations had to pull the trigger. SHIN Godzilla will be released in Japan only." While I'm not overly fond of the design (sure rumors are rampant about his appearance in a sequel) it is officially Toho so I'd love to add it to the collection... he just needs his own shelf. |

I won't know if I want the figure until Oct 12th, but if I do, well then they would have just given me incentive to not buy it. |
Oh? From the posts I've read (back to the early releases of SHMA) I've found his posts to be accurate and his relationship with the makers of SHMA to authentic.
Not to clutter a thread up, could you pm me your reasons why you thing he's full of it? |
looks legit. All preorders in Taiwan were cancelled last Aug, licensing was the issue. Since I'm new I can't post links but googling SH Monsterarts Shin Gojira Taiwan preorder might bring up something
|
He's not worth the time it would take to do a PM.
We'll see what happens though. From my understanding, this figure is already getting a repaint, so it might not matter. |
I've heard rumor and speculation about a repaint but has it been announced? I'm sure we will get one, the molds on these things can't be cheap so they need to make more than the initial release. One reason I'm sure we saw as many version of G'14 as we did.

Already seen him in action, still don't like the design. Hopefully the next movie will evolve him that doesn't look like an abortion gone wrong.

Interesting; I'd love a 3 pack to just get everything at once. I didn't think I'd want this guy but after seeing the movie and loving it I want a representation in my collection. It'll be NECA I guess unless I can get this one.
|
I'm so happy we're getting something besides just a vinyl of Kamata-kun. There's a part of me that misses silly 90's American toy gimmicks, as they would've been fun for his design to have some silly BLOOD-SPEWING-OUT-OF-GILLS-ACTION or something like that. Just for the fun of it.
The theater I saw it at actually had old 80's and 90's Godzilla trailers and ads, so I've had that on my mind since I saw it. That said: HEAT RAY REPAINT WITH EFFECTS PARTS WHEN, BANDAI? |
Turned out better than I thought, the gaps aren't the eye-sore I thought they'd be. He looked awesome in the film, and I think this does the design justice. Still gonna wait on NECA though, I'd rather buy something cheaper and then see if I still want a superior example down the line, and want to see what other sofubi we get too.

I like it. I hope this gets to U.S. Dvd soon.

Decided to register because I can't help but comment:
Wow, I personally find it surprising that people here are criticizing this design for looking so ugly and deformed when the original intention behind the classic design for Godzilla and the unique texturing of his skin was meant to resemble that of atomic bomb victims. I mean, I get that people have preferences and all, but given Godzilla's conceptual origins you'd think that people would do a double take on this. Given how Godzilla is one big Japanese social commentary on nuclear weapons (WWII and all) it's a little saddening that not many people here caught on that and just view him as some giant lizard. In this case, Shin Godzilla actually updates his appearance to similarly match that original concept. It's just strange that people would poke fun at this for looking so deformed and disgusting when it actually captures the true spirit of Godzilla's intended concept design a lot better than just simply turning him into a dinosaur (90s Zilla) or an oversized bear-lizard (2014's Legendary Godzilla). Personally, I'm excited to get this (have him pre-ordered already). It's such a striking appearance that nails the intended concept of Godzilla as a nuclear monster, and if reviews and word-of-mouth are anything to go by, it sounds like Anno really nailed it with this film by bringing ol' Goji back to his roots. |
