I don't blame people for being hesitant. SF toylines ALWAYS start out with Ryu and fizzle out after the first few figures.

You'd think that a SF toyline would be at it's strongest interest level with an actual game out. SOTA produced alot of characters when SF was dead.

Was this comment before good pics went up? Or do you still feel this way?

Yup. I still do. I'm not taking away anything from the figure, as I said in a later post, it looks good and if you are a fan of the character, then life is looking good for you. However, I'm just simply burnt out on this character because I think he's dull both story and design-wise, face of the franchise or not. It's unfortunate, because all roads to future figures always go through Ryu, and I'm just burnt out on this guy.

Me, I'd like proof of some "longevity". Show me that they plan on making Bison. Show me Laura. Show Guile. Show something that tells me that they plan to make more than a Ryu one-shot or making Chun-Li, Ken and Guile and calling it a day like NECA did.

We've already seen M. Bison.

Wow! Didn't know that there were other characters planned. Then I stand corrected then.

I seam to remember during the Cappo Toys Kickstarter someone asked why they were only doing Ryu and the response was that Capcom would only let them do Ryu and no one else. Also recently on NECA's Twitter someone asked about more Resident Evil figures and NECA responded they they were not doing anymore and that it wasn't a good experience making them. So it seems that the problem with Capcom toy lines could be Capcom. Which is a shame because they have some really good properties.

snake5289 06-20-2016 10:07 PM

Well joke's on Capcom I made my own Joe-style RE figues. That said it's a real bummer because I LOVE my RE5 Chris.

Thats acceptable. I guess I am a bit partial to all these "lone-wolf, ronin" type characters; at the same time I feel that there's more to Ryu than say, Ken or potentially any other SF character since Ryu has to battle with himself so that he is not consumed by the Satsui no Hado. Internal struggles like these make him less one-dimensional than what he was initially portrayed as.

Onto the figure, he definitely looks really good but I feel a bit let-down by the "calm" face as even though it has a great resemblance to the game model, there's sth about it that doesnt make it look exactly right (I think the eyes might be too narrow but I could be wrong).

As for extras, I wish we got the bearded Ryu head !

The RE5 figures were really good. A nice balance of sculpt and articulation. It really is too bad they didn't expand that line.

Cool I was just curious if it was before. I guess if you got burned already a few times then it makes sense. I know the feeling (like movie characters alot of the time only get some of the characters. Unrelated to SF of course)

Wow sounds like you know quite a bit about Ryu. I have to admit I preordered the figure today solely because of the bad ass look of the figure, and character. And I too like the loan wolf type tough guys and he fits the part. Plus a small part went to watching gijoe vrs street fighter and thats where i was introduced to these characters. But beyond that I don't know these characters, which is weird since im almost 40 now & i been collecting toys for over 20 years. But when I find toys I like I research the series and characters. Is there any anime for Street Fighter for out there you can point me to? (Or anyone else)

Do you guys do that? Find a line of toys you like so much it brings you to be able to relate to the series so it's enjoyable, more then before? It's either that or I go after the toys from watching the series. One or the other :P

Augustus_Cole 06-21-2016 06:07 PM

well DAMN@ $55.00.
I don't think this is worth that much...is this the new thing...figures costing this much damn money...

No worries...I wasn't trying to bag on anyone who might be a Ryu fan, I just don't find him to be all that interesting or deep, and the fact that his design doesn't change all that much (if at all) doesn't really help things. Perhaps if he changed up a bit lookwise to show some growth over the years, I might be interested, but he's had basically the same look for nearly 30 years now. All he did was change his headband and remove his shoes.

A great example of what a reboot of look could do for Ryu's popularity lies in Scorpion and Sub-Zero from the MK series. I will be the first to admit, that I do not care all that much for these characters (Reptile, Quan Chi, and Jax are my faves from the series,) but their looks have changed considerably over the years, and as a result, I've picked them up time and time again, despite them not being favorites. Every character in SF has changed somewhat in design...even Ken...but Ryu just comes off as stale bread to me at this point.

He'll still be a fantastic pick up if you're a fan of the guy. I'm holding out for that Bison though for sure. Hydra will be taken over by Shadowloo for sure once he comes along.

Street Fighter V Ryu Alternate Color Figure by Storm Collectibles - The Toyark - News

http://news.toyark.com/wp-content/up...-Version-2.jpg

TimespliTT 07-14-2016 09:39 AM

they could have done evil ryu or done a the other hairstyle or even gave him the awesome beard... but no, just blue alt color

Harbinger 07-14-2016 09:55 AM

Man i wish these were getting a non wallet emptying state side release. Love that alt color ryu. Would be sweet to see dan and guy and even a poison/roxy fig.

graphyt 07-14-2016 12:58 PM

The blue and yellow headband color way is my preference, so that's what's going to sell me on this. Sorta wish it was closer to the Third Strike scheme, more burgundy gloves and darker blue, but I'm pretty pleased. Hopefully it won't be prohibitively expensive or limited.

Looks fantastic. I missed out on the Alpha 3 Bison that came out a few years back, that now goes for $$$$. I'll pick this up and the eventual Ken (as long as they have the alternate head) definitely.

I've always hated the Satsui No Hado storyline. Ryu was always one of the most centered Street Fighters because of his constant and perpetual training. I didn't like the idea of Ryu essentially becoming the Hulk...turning into an evil powerhouse whenever he takes a really bad hit or is about to lose a fight. So glad that his storyline has shifted from the SNH to training with Oro to achieve even greater heights.

Exactly. We don't need "Evil Ryu"... that's what Akuma basically already is. He's given into the urges... Just like Spidey has Venom as a dark version, Wolverine has Sabretooth, etc... but never once do you expect to hear Spidey debating how much responsibility he can ignore... the villain alone is enough to see what that evil looks like.

Oakleaf 07-20-2016 01:11 PM

This is going to take a chance. I'm really on the edge on this upcoming toy release. Other than that the figure looks great. I wouldn't be surprise once someone makes a review vid. on the figures. Opinions would probably sway then. Peace

Oakleaf 07-20-2016 01:18 PM

Street Fighter, take 2!

This will only float if a substanial amount of people supports it. There's just to many variants of SF. thats been release. We only need Dee Jay.

Street Fighter V M. Bison Figure by Storm Collectibles - The Toyark - News

http://news.toyark.com/wp-content/up...-Bison-015.jpg

toyhandle 08-10-2016 07:38 AM

Storm is easily the most exciting new toy company for me. Between this and Mortal Kombat, I can say that despite producing some characters that could be seen as re-treads, I think they are the company to have finally nailed these characters once and for all.

I have most of the SOTA SF figs, but missed Ryu, Ken, Sagat and Bison.
I guess it can be seen as unfortunate that at least these Ryu and Bison's I'll finally have are far better than the rest of my collection.

Has everyone in this thread seen their MK Goro? It's the best Goro we could have asked for!

I look forward to more from them.

I do hope that the costumes Storm chooses to use for these figures stays close to the SF2 looks. I'd prefer a Shirtless Vega to a loose-shirt Vega, for example.
