What, Geewun? What's the problem? All I'm saying is that this Voltron should be based on the good looking, new one, and not the ugly, boxy old one.

TheBlueMarvel 07-20-2016 07:16 AM

The new Voltron looks like a Gundam/Megazord hybrid...I could see certain people digging that...let's hope the show does better than the re-envisioned Thundercats...

I disagree.

1. This Voltron is a Japanese product, therefore it's going to be based on Golion.
2. I'll take Golion over the new one.
3. The new one just came out, so Bandai wouldn't know what the new one was going to be like.
4. What if the new show failed and they were already in the middle of releasing a high end figure for it? They would have wasted all of that money for nothing.
5. People have been asking Bandai for a Golion Voltron for years in the SOC line.

The problem is I HATE that f*****' word. I got sick of it on the TFW2005 board!

And high end Voltron figures are cool. More variety would be nice. Maybe a robeast or two...

Tokyomeltdown 07-20-2016 08:18 AM

Finally, a Voltron worth buying; can't go wrong with an SOC.

Agreed. So far the only thing Mattel did right was give us the pilots. Too bad they never bothered to do anything else with the license.

This looks fantastic i hope this gonna be 11" or 12" at least. Has the size been announced yet ?

Yeah it's Playmates but at worst it would be $60 and that would be decent.

What's this about the legendary defender Voltron license going to playmates ?

I hate that figure his face is all wrong &every other copy couldn't twist the arms without almost breaking them.

Now the question remains whether or not to get the incredible LOOKING (looks can be deceiving) 16" transformable Toynami version as well. Hmmmm

once you maturate past the point of racing your friends by transforming a toy to impress them w your "skills", you'll eventually find yourself collecting pieces w less visually unpleasant "anime accurate" detail, made of denser or more interesting materials because the overall form has presence and the piece has significance beyond "I'm a humongous six year old who can buy things I saw on tv".

Or maybe you wear cargo shorts and Transformers t shirts and have a ton of posters all over your bedroom and live with your parents.

And since I'm all "get off my lawn" right now, there is no reason to use semi-retarded language like "geewun" especially in regards to toys made outside of the American Transformer releases. Chogokin is from 1973. Go lion is from 1981. Transformers didn't get farted out of hasbro and marvel until 1984.

If you had any taste you'd get some diaclone and microman pieces and move on with your life. And then you'd hit chogokin and jumbo machinders and japanese vinyl and tin and realize you've been lost all along.

also, for the money, just go buy the original. It's better and heavier and you could kill a baby with it, just by it falling off a shelf.

Except the original kind of sucks. The lions look like body parts that happen to have legs sticking off of it.

I think I'll stick with the new and improved. ..... AND the originals ;)

I have this preordered; i find as I get slightly older, mid 30's, that shelf presence and diecast are my new go to. Thank God for Gundam Metal Build and Soul of Chogokin!

That is kind of the point. The design of the lions is that they form a military machine and combine. Not that you're supposed to be following animal anatomy class. My little pony makes some awesome stuff tho.

I've also seen many attempts to "improve" on this toy design, and this one looks ok except for all that crotch / roids. I'd rather have the presence of a towering monolithic form, like a fortress - than an anime accurate jock bot (even though in the animations it was super blocky and voltron had a sweet mullet/80s aussie neck sunburn hat thing??)

The design style is called brutalism. Overwhelmingly monolithic and imposing.
And the original toy sucks how exactly? I get the subjective nature of this, buy what you want, etc... but when you say "it sucks" what are we talking about?

Pros:
Big 12" tall
Diecast
Rocket launching lion heads
combines
focuses on shooting your friends eye out
tons of accessories and missiles to lose in your yard

Cons:
no one cares about your cosplay recreations of scenes on your shelf
can't pose with crotch thrust against your face
can't pose like break dancing robot nerd, in lieu of you going outside and learning moves/physical effort
can't actually kill anyone w missiles or lion heads
can't legally marry you
