Surprisingly robust selection of DC Multiverse there.

Unfortunately, a lot of them are exclusives...which is not good (especially Wal-Mart exclusives).

But the Build-A-Figures are cool. New 52 Doomsday is kind of unnecessary but a good way for people who might not have the classic version "a" Doomsday.

The Reaper?!? There's an awesome left-field choice.

Dr Kain 07-21-2016 08:14 AM

What is up with that disgusting Flash repaint? That thing is hideous. One of the ugliest toys Mattel has ever produced.

Also, someone should tell Mattel the New 52 is done and over with. The nightmare has finally ended. They need to stop bringing figures out a year too late.

I was ready to go all in for Thundercats, too. I even managed to order the SDCC set Yesterday. Literally 24 hours later the line appears dead.

Hells yes. Been thinking about doing a custom of this guy ever since he appeared on the show. Now I don't have to. Also love that another wave comes with an additional head for him too.

I have never been excited for the Multiverse line before, but I am now. These look to be some really awesome waves!

I kinda wish they did a Green Arrow instead of the Flash for their Dark Knight Returns figures though.

Pixel Dan just posted this:

On MOTU Classics: I talked to Brian from Super7 last night at Skeletor's Lair. They plan to continue the Classics line. They will still use the Horsemen, and he mentioned that there were a few Filmation characters that the Horsemen had ready for a possible 2017 line, so they will start there. He mentioned they plan to create new characters too.
Mattel is out, though. They basically licensed the MOTU property to Super7. So with the end of MattyCollector comes the end of Mattel's Classics line.
I have an interview scheduled with Brian Friday, so I'll be getting as many details as I can on video at that time.
Oh, and ThunderCats sounds like it's finished. I guess the license is a little too Co plated for Super7 to take on. So it seems we are only getting the 2016 figures that were already announced, and nothing more.
Stay tuned!
So yep, Thundercats are dead already.

Good thing these idiots keep declining my card for God knows why... I will take it as divine intervention.

Redlantern161 07-21-2016 11:06 AM

I like the figures, they have a nice lineup but I have gripes with the lack of articulation on the ladies there & why is hawk man omitted? He's someone that hasn't been released yet so why doesn't he have a picture I want to see him, is that a thing to omit a figure that we can clearly see?

Redlantern161 07-21-2016 11:15 AM

Plus making them Walmart exclusives isn't good, I wish these retail companies can stop making customers feel limited or unable to buy figures from them. Making them exclusives makes it less likely for them to even have time on the shelf for anyone to be able to get them after scalpers & especially when a store is farther like in walmart's case when someone who lives in a place like NY can't make that trip

We may (finally!) be seeing a spiritual return to DCUC! There are some very good looking figs in Mattel's offerings, this year...figs I can't leave on the pegs. Prior to now, Calvin Ellis Superman had been the only fig I couldn't pass up...

Robogeek28 07-21-2016 12:22 PM

So Thundercats IS dead.

Looks like I need to cancel my card then so I don't get charged for them, and just eat the $27 I already paid.

The Flash in the black costume/shorts is based off of Frank Millers Dark Knight Returns 3 comic

I know it's a popular bandwagon, but the New 52 wasn't ALL bad. Batman's entire run was great, and is an instant classic. Swamp Thing, Justice League Dark, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Demon Knights just to name a handful were also mostly great reads. There were definite issues with the New 52, but nothing as horrific as you make it sound. Rebirth without a doubt is freaking incredible though!

Releasing a Mutant Leader without his trademark glass-cutting nipples is absolutely pointless, it's freaking iconic! Also looking at Mattels Rebirth Batman just makes me that much happier that I'm an Icons collector, as the Icons version looks so much better! The same goes for Batgirl, and the Designer Series Gordon Batman from DC Collectibles looks infinitely better as well. Also prepare yourselves for like 90% of that paint detail to dissapear, just like it did on the retail version of Dark Knight Returns Armored Batman.

Oh wow, just when I didn't think Frank Miller could get any more lazy.

I was hoping for great things frm teh N52, but it was a mess and really showed how poorly planned the whole reboot thing was. You are right, there are a few good things from it, Swamp Thing, JL Dark, and Animal Man, but they didn't need a reboot to happen or to be good, they could have just been new series right from the get go. GL was great until Johns left, then the series turned to crap.

The biggest problem with the N52 though is that none of these characters felt like heroes. Just goons dressing up as heroes, which is the problem with Zack Snyder's movieverse.

Lody666 07-21-2016 03:35 PM

My understanding is that the Thundercats line is dead as well.

I have heard that Super 7 didn't take the license because it's too complicated

So Matty took my money and sold me a set of figures in their Thundercats line that has zero future before they were even effing released

Good riddance Matty. Burn in hell

Primehunter 07-21-2016 04:09 PM

Pixel Dan spoke with the Four Horsemen, and yes Thundercats is dead. You can read the discussion at he-man.org.

Matty and Mattel, go f#%k yourselves.

That's what I said like 2-3 years ago. I'm so glad I didn't get tricked into their Thundercats line.

INCREDIBLE!! I can spot 3 female character figures WITHOUT ab crunch & WITH ball-jointed legs!!!
Mattel, have you finally seen the light??
I'm also suprised to see they actually did some improvements, even if they're minor (DC Collectibles should also drop off that ab crunch for female figures). Still, most of the figures looks bad, as usual..I hope Mattel will lose their DC license eventually, like other cases we saw this year.

Some of these (especially the female characters) look horrible, and I'm certainly no fan of Mattel, but I have to give them credit for choosing such an unexpected and relatively diverse line-up.
I NEVER imagined that I'd ever see figures of Reaper and Batwing, not even from DC Collectibles !

I'm not sure if Mattel still has the rights to the Young Justice animated series, but with the focus on the Multiverse figures being on TV, movies, and other forms of media, and not just comics, it seems like this would be the ideal way for Mattel to give us those YJ Kon-El and Miss Martian figures that never made it to production a few years ago.

It sure would be a good way for Mattel to rebuild some off those bridges that they seem to be SOOOO intent on burning these days.

SDCC 2016 - Official Update on Super 7 and Four Horsemen MOTU and Thundercats - The Toyark - News

evilekim 07-23-2016 10:29 AM

Cool to see that they are continuing the line with 4 Horseman. They should just start with the Filmation stuff. Need Skeletor and He-Man, Mattel made it impossible to buy.

suchaname 07-23-2016 01:33 PM

I'll certainly consider the Filmation Classics if they happen.

OriginalFire 07-23-2016 04:20 PM

Could someone please explain what is going on here. I'm confused, What is going on with Super 7 and Thundercats, they just started doing them

Basically Mattel is done doing Collector's figures. They are licensing He-Man out to Super7, but because Thundercats is owned by WB, they can't do anything with it.

MattyCollector, once Toy guru left, was without its own team. The people running it after that were only doing so part time. MOTU and Thundercats have dwindling fan bases because there is no retail, toon, or movies. Thundercats, even with a toon, is a smaller fanbase.

So, rather than try and basically do their full time job and another full time job, they decided to cut and run. Super 7 can do MOTU as Mattel owns that outright, so all they have to do is license it out. Thundercats is tricky. Licensing has never been easy for the brand, and you can't simply transfer the license from one company to another.

Wow, what a waste of money. Thanks for nothing.
