Just wish they would given us a normal hudson head instead of the power squeezin grimace one. At least no stupid flesh painted....never understood thst.
|
I already own the original four and it's not like those had especially great face sculpts IMO, so this'll be one of the few items I skip.
|
So glad they upgraded the original figures and went with flesh-colored skin instead of painted this time. The sculpts look better for it, IMO.

I'm so happy with Vasquez. NECA did a great job. |
As one of those that missed the initial release, this has me sooo happy.

Anecdotally, I find this very exciting:

If i read blokamps interview the game is not going to be cannon after his movie is made........IF it gets made. |
I think the choice to improve the skin plastic might be the thing that pushes me over the edge on this one. The old figures look like they got a horrible spray tan or something.
I wonder when these are shipping out. |

Also, the original treatment for Alien 3, which focused on Hicks and Bishop stranded on a planet of monks, would have been really interesting. |
I think you are confusing two different Alien 3 scripts. There was the Vincent Ward wooden planet one with monks and Ripley; and the William Gibson script that dealt with Hicks and Bishop battling genetically-modified aliens on a space station while Ripley spent almost the entire movie in cryosleep.
As for Blomkamp, last I heard he himself had given up hope that the project would get off the ground. You can thank Ridley Scott for 86ing that one, I don't know why his Prometheus sequel and Aliens 2 couldn't coexist. |
Interesting, I had only previously read of the scenario I mentioned...didn't realize it was actually two separate scripts. I knew the monks from early drafts became the prisoners in the finished film. I would have liked to see that Hicks/Bishop script get made.
With Blomkamp's film, I thought the same thing. No idea why his and Ridley Scott's couldn't both see a release. I was genuinely excited about it, too. Alien Covenant does look interesting though. |

I for one am upset about this. Last year my wife hunted down the original Hicks and Hudson series as a gift, they where not cheap as they where rare. This is what made them special. (not to mention they had botched paint jobs). Hunting down rare figures on ebay was a thing, and an achievement if you could secure a good deal. But non the less, I will have to get these as I am compelled to buy everything Neca release.
But one does have to ask how this will impact the prices of rare figures? What is the point of collecting figures if later they are re-released? Will this devalue the original series? and is it okay to have 3 hicks and 3 Hudson figures? See image attached for a Hudson figure I managed to find for £50 last year, good reason to get a new version. |
I felt kind of sort of the same way about my ED-209. They said it was going to be somewhat limited, then the market seemed flooded and STILL they are re-releasing it. It's always hard to gauge how rare a toy will become in the long term.
In the end, I am glad they do it. I am getting a second chance for these figures, for the Alien Queen, for that one Dutch figure I opted out of, etc. |

Regarding the older releases though, no I wouldn't think their prices would be overly affected. Something similar happened with NECA's Pacific Rim line where they re-issued Crimson Typhoon and Striker Eureka in new packaging and the aftermarket prices of the original releases of those two remained stupid high. Hell they did an ultimate Striker Eureka which completely outdid the original and the original still kept its stupid prices on eBay. |
I know I'm grateful that Neca rereleases stuff every so often. Wouldn't have been able to pick up Clubber Lang last year or get the ED-209 later this year if they didn't.
|
I agree, if you're in this solely because you want to acquire rare collectibles that other people can't get then you may want to re-evaluate your reason for enjoying this hobby.
|
I think NECA used the old MacFarlane sculpt for the motion trackers in this two-pack. I literally can't tell them apart from my MacFarlane one, and actually got them mixed up.
