Interesting. You're honestly the first person I've ever heard be negative about the concept of BAFs. Not saying that's bad, just saying that it's a first to me.

The premise of being rewarded for buying an entire wave with something extra isn't a bad idea. It's like a loyalty incentive for having the whole set. My problem is that with every wave there are figures with low desirability yet are essential to completing the BAF which is more typically desired. My case in point for reference is the Onslaught wave, I'd like to have an Onslaught toy but want none of the figures needed to build him. My only course is turning to the mercy (or lack thereof) of eBay sellers. Were Hasbro to sell a deluxe Onslaught on his own though I wouldn't have to face down that path. They could keep the whole-set incentive with connecting diorama pieces or something else along those lines but when entire figures are only made available for buying 6+ other figures I didn't want in the first place it irks me.

Edit: I don't like to ramble on but my other issue with BAFs is when I don't want the BAF but do want a figure or two in the wave so I end up with some other guy's head and arm that I can't do anything with.

Speaking as a collector, I totally agree with you! But thinking as a Hasbro CEO, I think "being forced to buy a bunch of toys you may not want just to have the one that you do" is exactly what they're going for. :)

As for Ms. Kamala Khan, I like her character, but I would have liked her better if she didn't take the name Ms. Marvel. She has nothing with do with Carol Danvers, her power is nothing like the original Ms. Marvel. She should have been called "Ms. Teen Fantastic" or something.

Dr Kain 01-06-2017 07:54 AM

I'd most likely still buy the entire case for Spider-man and X-Men whether they were BAFs or not since I can't leave those to chance in stores. Also, I did technically have the entire REd Skull wave preordered, I just happened to come across them all at TRU before BBTS shipped them. I'm sure that is a fluke that will never happen again.

evilekim 01-06-2017 08:27 AM

Cute face sculpt, and cool figure. Displayed with crazy arms though, this figure looks bad. Guess you have to really like the character to appreciate them, or maybe it's because they lack articulation. That should have been a con with the figure.

Sell 'em on ebay. From this wave I bought Shocker and Ms. Marvel, and I sold the Sandman torso and left leg BAF pieces pretty quickly. It ended up more than paying for one of the two figures. I didn't charge over-the-top prices either, and it enabled people to get the Sandman pieces cheaper than if they had to buy the figures they came with.

Actually she does, sort of, Carol Danvers was her favourite superhero, and saved her life and she looked up to her as an inspiration, that's why she took the name. It makes far less sense to name her after a character she has absolutely no connection to and I don;t think has ever even met just because their power shares some elements.

Marvel Legends The Amazing Spider-Man Symbiote Photo Shoot - The Toyark - News

Jeddostotle7 01-07-2017 06:39 PM

Reminder: when Spidey had his Symbiote costume, he didn't shoot webs out of his normal web-shooters; they shot out of the back of his hand. So the lack of web-shooting hands shouldn't really be a negative, because the fists double as the web-shooting hands for this costume.

Let's not forget the Kree-based origins they both have.

Peter later wore an identical black costume that was just cloth, and therefore used his traditional web-shooters; including a pair would be a nice touch that only adds to the figure's value.

Oh, of course, having the hands would only add value. All I'm saying is it's not necessarily a con if he doesn't have explicit web-slinging hands, largely because most people buying this costume will be buying it as the symbiote costume, instead of the Peter's lesser-known non-symbiote replica that he used after.

i notice the photo shoot symbiote spidey had no problems with his legs like the rest of us... lol im a super big fan of the black costume, however the problem with the legs was a big disappointment.

Thank the gods heat was invented.

Anyway, yeah, the symbiote suit didn't have normal web shooters, which is what this suit is. Plus, that McFarlane joke of a series where he wore a black costume in the 90s was just that, a joke.

I think the guys are also talking about post-civil war when he returned to the black design to show he was in mourning. It sounds kinda emo when I type it here but it made sense to me at the time.

Bingo-bango, that's what we're talking about.

Wasn't that when the third Raimi moving was coming out and they wanted to cash in with him having the black suit there?

Either way, this Spidey toy is the Symbiote suit, not just some random one.

Actually yeah it was close to the third movie, I didn't even think about that.

Flux Convoy 01-08-2017 03:41 PM

I think this was the only one I got this wave. I'm pretty choosy over stuff that isn't Transformers. However, this is my absolute favorite Spidey costume. It's fantastic to have one that finally matches the rest of my small collection of the new Legends style. The old Classics one has better articulation but some funny bits that aren't quite right for this version. I'm plenty pleased with mine.

Up next is the Jackal.

Marvel Legends Jackal Photo Shoot - The Toyark - News

Marvelfangirl 01-08-2017 06:19 PM

I wanted to get Ms Marvel to totally repaint her for a custom. Hope that's not bad of me :P I haven't seen any of the Sandman waves emerge yet at any of my stores. I've heard people are having a bit of a hard time finding them. Jackal looks cool. So does Ms. Marvel. I just really like her headsculpt and want to use it for something I was planning on for awhile.

He wore the non-symbiote black costume many times, not only a few times in McFarlane's Spider-Man but also in some of the best issues of Spectacular Spider-Man as well as during major stories like Kraven's Last Hunt featured Spidey in the black costume. He also recently wore it in the Renew Your Vows Secret Wars mini, so I think it's a viable part of Spidey's history.

Anyway this Spidey figure came with web-shooter hands in every other release along with open hands and fist hands, there doesn't seem like there's a good reason why they couldn't be thrown in for this version, too.

jestermon 01-08-2017 09:51 PM

It looks great I wonder if you painted it brown and got a wolf head from something if it would be a good werewolf by night.

Dr Kain 01-08-2017 11:55 PM

Things Hasbro can reuse this mold for:

Werewolf by Night
Beast
Mutanted Animated Morbius

I'll second his comments as I'm really not a fan of the BAF concept. I usually only ever like a few characters at most in a wave & so it means I'm left with useless body parts that take space that could have been used by character specific accessories.
