Carl Weathers' character from Rocky (and its sequels).

Just got back from the movie and I definitely want some the figures. Really enjoyed it.

Scott said its going to be 2-4 more movies before we get to Alien, which would be fine if Prometheus and Covenant were their own stories. At this point, I think I may be done with the Alien franchise outside of the first two.

Ahh there you go, thanks for the correct info. For some reason I read somewhere that Alien Covenant was supposed to be a direct prequel to Alien as well as a sequel to Prometheus. After seeing it I was like WTF, its no prequel! Heh!

Never seen the Rocky movies.

Good god, the more I think about this movie, the more I realize what a big pile of shit it was.
Like now we have the fact that the Xenomorphs were created by humans, which completely ruins the entire mystery of them. What made them terrifying creatures was the belief that they were created by nature. Now it turns out they were created by a stupid robot created by stupid people.
Ridley Scott needs to retire while he still has some dignity left.

Honestly only the first is truly worth watching at this point, it's a certified classic while the sequels range from decent to hammy crap.

Ressurection is still an unforgivable mess...and is the worst film in the franchise hands down...

Covenant is an effing disaster whether you're an Alien fan or not, and I hate to say it, but if I wasn't a completist I wouldn't touch that creature pack or Neomorph with a barge pole. They look like McDonald's toys in the pics, and in the film they're slick in every sense.

I'd just like to state that even the average Alien fan should swerve Covenant. Ridley doesn't give a flying fcuk about you or your time and money.

EDIT - Re. Neomorph. By slick in terms of CGI I mean icky and a visual mess when they're smaller.

Y'all are crazy. Covenant was disappointing but not that bad.

Admittedly, I've not seen Resurrection. But Alien 3 is one of the worst movies I have ever seen, and I would prefer to live the rest of my life forgetting it happened and never watching it again. Blomkamp's Alien 5 would be a welcome change to canon, wiping that movie away and burying it 10 feet under.

Also, I thought the characters in Covenant were one of the better parts of the movie. Certainly better than Prometheus's offerings.

suchaname 05-21-2017 03:22 AM

No, sorry, even Res ATTEMPTED pacing and answered it's own questions.

Anyone who gave Prometheus the benefit of the doubt will likely be pissed off at Covenant totally ignoring it's ending's potential.

They'll have to jump through ALL the hoops now, totally constrained by how badly they fcuked up the life cycle just to get to the end of a shameful entry in the franchise.

You couldn't even say they spent all their time on the CGI! Randy from NECA may have let the cat out of the bag, when he said their references for the figures were all from guys in suits and other material, only for these to change when CGI was introduced late in the game. And by fcuk does it show, both in the film and the toys...

Judging from the trailer I saw of it and fan reaction, I highly doubt it's better than Covenant.

It depends what you want. If you want a movie that at least looks well made, then yes, Covenant is better. If you want a movie that has very little plot, but is at least coherent and not try to sequel bait, then Resurrection is better.

But Covenant is coherent.

I haven't seen any of the movies all the way through, but my plan is to watch Rocky, Rocky Balboa, and Creed eventually.

Not even close. The movie didn't answer a single question I had about the ending to Prometheus and all it did was provide more questions for the next movie to ignore.

salsa4datass 05-21-2017 07:13 PM

I guess I'm in the minority here because the movie was badass! The ending was predictable but the horror scenes were great. I'm also a bit confused as to what questions people needed answers to from Prometheus.

Just because it didn't answer all your questions doesn't mean it wasn't coherent. Coherent means you're able to follow the plot. So, it was very coherent and straightforward.

First of all: you should get an award for your username.

But here's just some of the questions people needed answers to from Prometheus:

*What did David and Shaw do between films (only some of this is answered through a deleted scene on youtube and some of David's revelations)
*Why did David kill Shaw when they were getting along well in "The Crossing"
*Who are the Engineers?
*Why did the Engineers create us and then want to destroy us?
*Why did the Engineer who was woken up become so hostile?
*How did the ship found in Alien get there?

LOL Thanks.
I think most of the answers to your questions are that somewhere in between films he developed a full blown God complex. But I think that's what the beginning of the film shows when he tells his creator that the difference is that he can't die and then when he's fighting "Winston/Wilson?" and he tells him they made upgrades because of their design flaws. The Alien ship could just be another ship. I'm sure the engineers created/built more than just one. As far as the engineers who, what and why, I think they will answer those along the way or even a Prometheus sequel... Milk the franchise for all it's worth

How It Should Have Ended has a great answer for this. So when the Engineer wakes up and David speaks with him what he must've said was "this man slept with your wife and she liked it! And your mother thinks Alien vs Predator is awesome." This is what sends the Engineer into a rage.

Seriously though my guess is a mixture of shock and whatever animosity the Engineers had towards humans. I mean if I'm awoken from my stasis prematurely and a bunch of weird hairless ape-men wearing fancy blue space-suits are crowding me I'm not gonna be in an awesome, friendly mood. Maybe though David is what really set him off, like seeing that David was a robot that the humans designed was insulting to him. Maybe it was some kind of jealous hate along the lines that only an Engineer is worthy of making other life like that. That's just my guess though.

It is just another ship, but it's a missed opportunity in the prequels. And then the Engineers just got sidelined in this film...literally.

The truth is, most of the questions haven't been answered. They were just ignored in favor of Xenomorph creation.

There is a deleted scene in which the Engineer speaks. Of course, there's still no subtitles, so you have no idea what he's saying, but he has very expressive body language and you can get a bit clearer picture.

Given David's personality, and that we have no idea what he said to the Engineer, it's likely that he didn't say what Mr. Weyland told him to say.

In an interview though, Ridley Scott said....and I shit you not....that the reason the Engineers want to destroy Earth is that they sent an Engineer by the name of Jesus Christ to check on Earth, and humans crucified him. They're pissed about it and want to destroy Earth because of it.

Here's one of the sources: https://geektyrant.com/news/2012/6/1...is-it-con.html

The only horror scene was when the Neomorph showed up behind the woman and killed her off screen.

What questions did I need answered from Prometheus? Are you kidding me? The movie was just one big tease for the sequel. Why were the Engineers going to attack Earth? How did they make the goo? Why does it turn creatures into things? How did it mutate Halloway and Fifield? How did it impregnate Shaw? Why did the Engineer at the beginning of the movie drink the goo? Why did the ship leave him to die? Did Shaw ever interact with the Engineers? How far did they go before they found the homeworld? Did she ever learn why they created humans? Why would she repair David when she knew he was treacherous? What happened to the Deacon during the credit sequence? Why did the Engineer attack Weyland and gang when he woke up?

Should I continue?

Yes, but nothing in this movie was coherent. Why would the people walk onto an unknown world without proper protection? Why did David kill the Engineers? Did he meet with them? Did they piss him off? How did he create the eggs and Facehuggers? Why did the spores affect these guys in mere minutes instead of hours? How come the Xeno burst through the captain's chest in minutes? How come no one questions whether or not Walter was not David BEFORE they went to sleep? Why didn't the girl just shoot the Neomorph instead of staring at it? How did she not know there was blood on the floor? What happened to the dude with the burned face?

The only question I got answered was why the Ghost in the Shell movie had no philosophical discussions. David stole them.

QuasiMort 05-21-2017 10:10 PM

I have some questions. What happened to the egg > facehugger > chestburster > adolescent > adult cycle of xeno growth featured in the other films. Instead we get a mini-me Alien that waves to David after busting out of the Captain, then its adult sized a few minutes later to chase down the colonists headed to the cargo transport. Then there is a 2nd one onboard the main ship somehow. WTF. Did David have it down his throat along with the facehugger embryos?! Thats good gag reflex! And if David created the Eggs and Facehuggers in a basement on the Engineers home planet, then how did they end up in a Engineer ship's cargo hold by the hundreds, on a different planet, in the original Alien film?

Trivial Psychic 05-21-2017 11:43 PM

What I haven't figured out, is that the Yautja have been hunting their favorite prey, the serpents, on the planet Earth as a right of passage since the dawn of mankind. They gave man language, advancements in architecture and mathematics, and were in turn worshipped by earlier civilizations as gods. The Yautja came to Earth, because they also needed man in order to create their favorite prey, and as repayment to the gods for the gifts they brought, man would willingly sacrifice themselves so the Yautja could continue the hunt.

Kind of hard to do that, when David created the damn things 2000+ years in the future.

This means that:
 1. The Yutani Corporation never recovers the Yautja plasma caster from the Colorado incident that jump-starts human technology, thus stunting advancements in the harnessing of plasma energy.

 2. The union that eventually comes when the tech giant (Yutani) and the space pioneer (Weyland) merge as Weyland-Yutani, most likely never happens, as without a cheap, efficient, and easy to reproduce energy source, space travel will never be profitable.

 3. Since these two powerhouses of space and technology never come together, humans will no longer have the long range capability and technology to reach those depths of space to begin with. With that...No space truckers. No LV426. No Fiorina 161. No Jones the cat. None of it.

 4. And this all occurs because the Yautja Youngbloods never had the damned things to hunt on Earth to begin with, because they hadn't been created yet by the Wagner loving, flute playing, synthetic from the future.

This is heavy Doc...

I'm pretty sure Fox considers the AVPverse separate from the main Alienverse. The Predatorverse might mesh okay with the AVPverse but to me it always seemed like a sticky situation guaranteed to be filled with holes and contradictions if one attempted to lay everything out from all movies and have it all make sense.

The Heat 05-22-2017 06:05 AM

Losing the AvP movies from the canon is not going to keep me up at night. Good riddance.
