Where's Steel ?

John Wesley Shipp's Flash and Val Kilmer's Batman ?!?!

Those choices are so absolutely absurd, but I don't care, because if Mattel is crazy enough to give us these characters, then that could open the door to an almost equally absurd Shaquille O'neal Steel figure !
An updated version of Shaq's Steel has been on my secret shameful list of dream figures that I'd never openly admit to actually wanting :o .

On a serious note, a Tom Welling Clark Kent figure might be cool, as long as the likeness is passable. Even at $30, that figure would be a must-buy for me. I missed out on the DC Direct/Collectibles Welling figures, and they're pretty pricey on the aftermarket.

OGTrilogy 01-08-2018 09:24 PM

The character selection may have something to do with which likeness rights Mattel could get. Maybe likeness rights are part of the reason these will cost a little more. I wouldn't mind if Mattel was committed to a higher quality, collector oriented line with more accessories and better articulation.

I'm stoked for all 3 of these. Lynda Carter Wonder Woman is great but I hope the version we get doesn't have those ugly seam lines on the front of the thighs.

Even though the actual show wasn't that great, I have always loved the design for the JWS Flash costume. Was that the first time the lightning bolt belt came to a point in the center? I thought about doing a custom TV Flash figure a while back, but now I won't have to bother.

Finally, Val Kilmer's batsuit was pretty decent and I think Batman Forever has a few cool parts. The Two-Face monologue at the beginning is pretty is solid, the batmobile was alright and I like how he threw a bunch of coins in the air to confuse Two-Face at the end.

I'll definitely be pick up all 3 of these.

snake5289 01-08-2018 09:41 PM

Couldn't care less about another 6 inch DC line but I may have to pick up Flash. I love that show.

The Flash might be interesting depending on what accessories they give him, but why bother with a Val Kimer Batman? Why not start with Keaton first? Of course, it looks terrible either way. What is up with his cape?

SymbiSpidey 01-08-2018 11:25 PM

It should have been Michael Keaton instead of Val Kilmer. Was there seriously any demand for Val Kilmer Batman?

Snowflakian 01-08-2018 11:33 PM

Love that they're making these, but I do gotta agree that I wish they went 1:18th scale with them instead of 6''. Hopefully later they'll offer 1:18th scale versions.

Wonder Woman in particular seems like a missed sales opportunity because of the WWI and WWII 1:18th markets. But I guess they gotta save something for later for additional sales of the same characters from the same media.

I'd have bought these in a heartbeat in 1:18th scale. Kind of a pass on 6''. Mostly because I'm very selective on 6''.

Louise Belcher 01-09-2018 12:13 AM

Finally they update the articulation, but the joint and the sculpt are hideous as usual as stupid lazy cheapskate Mattel must make every action figure look like their dead He-Man toyline. 30$?! Nope! At this point I gave up on ever getting nice looking, well articulated and reasonably priced DC action figures (If only S.H.Figuarts made comic book/cartoon versions like ugly Revoltech) and I would just like to have simple 11~12 PoA 4" playline action figures for around 10$ like Playmates does. Like I say every year, I hope stupid Mattel will lose their DC license and have smaller toy company get it!

I’m interested in The Flash, but we all know Mattel’s multiverse figures suck. I do think these will sell way better than the DCEU stuff. Even after Christmas, places are swimming in Mattel “Justice League” figures.
Mattel is a broken record anymore. I compare them to Playmates Toys TMNT figures. Every once in a while another company squeezes out some badass figures... then Mattel wants to cash in...and they fail. I honestly hope the best for them, but damn I wish NECA could have given us a scaled down version of Pfeiffer Catwoman, DeVito Penguin, and Ward Robin.

NECA toys are fragile and they suck as toys. TMNT figures by Playmates are way better in every way; sculpt, joints' aesthetic, accessories and price. They are great playline toys and not try to fool anyone else like Mattel and Hasbro does with their poor endless repaints toyline they claim to be adult collector too.

It doesn't seem to make much sense for Mattel to offer figures with "extras" for $30 when Hasbro does the same thing for $10 less.

Also, this lineup, like others have said, is highly questionable. Like "Hey, we gave you the line you said you were interested in and you didn't bite" questionable.

You nailed it!

“Not all of them suck” lol Just most of them. Face it, Multiverse are shelf warmers. Aside from the King Shark wave, most of these went to clearance.
My comparison of Mattel’s DC license to Playmates Toys TMNT license wasn’t just how well the figures look....more about how they handle the lines. Anytime fans have a chance to get quality figures for a good price by another company, these companies jump in and have some new found interest. The small companies are pushed aside, and we’re treated to lower quality sculpts. Both these companies have always been this way. DC abandoned their own 3 3/4” movie line years ago. They may do the same with these. Playmates Toys attempted to compete with NECA’s Mirage TMNT line the same way. Only Playmates never released them until years later....and they were a total waste of plastic. Looked nothing like the prototypes.

Wonderful Toys 01-09-2018 12:56 AM

Gee, look at all the negativity. Yeah, they're a little overpriced, but the picture is pretty blurry and I don't see how anyone can judge the sculpt based on it.

I'm just happy that Mattel is finally doing something other than DCEU and CW figures and giving some of the older, more obscure(in the 90's TV Flash's case at least)stuff some love. They'll get around to Keaton and Reeve(again) eventually.

Honestly, sometimes I think people have been spoiled by Hot Toys and SH Figuarts, so if a face sculpt doesn't measure up to that hyper-realistic detail, it's considered crap. But remember, those companies' figures are usually a lot more expensive.

Jeddostotle7 01-09-2018 01:24 AM

They do seem to have double-jointed elbows, hopefully those get incorporated into the normal Multiverse line at some point.

I have 0 hot toys so I just want my figures to be recognizable, to be honest.

That explains the price increase. That'll be $5 an elbow, fellas.

Pravus Prime 01-09-2018 01:32 AM

I don't even know what to think. $30 is way too much to ask for these. Why on Earth did they choose Kilmers Batman to launch with? On the other hand, if they're finally moving away from their decade plus sculpt, that's a good thing.

Ugh, whatever. If Wonder Woman actually looks good, I'll get it on sale, I have yet to find a Wonder Woman figure I'm actually satisfied with. Though with Mattel, mostly it's just a waiting game.

Me too, they're overpriced creepy looking action dolls.

Riddick 01-09-2018 02:34 AM

Although I'd like a Flash TV figure, it being from Mattel and their god awful Multiverse doesn't leave much to be desired.

The regular Multiverse is hot garbage and them charging another 10, well these should at least be on par with Neca movie stuff now. I paid 30 dollars for Neca Superman, Batman and etc movie stuff and the sculpts were fantastic and the articulation wasn't anything to write home about but it was decent. They did fall apart if you looked at them wrong though lol.

The Justice League Muliverse figures are awful and the likeness are awful but those are around 20, I can let it slide but charging another 10, the facial likenesses better be improved. Least the articulation has been took up a notch.

If these are a step above the regular movie stuff in sculpt and paint, I'll get them. So, here's hoping.

Wishful thinking but I hope this prompts Hasbro to do 70s and 80s marvel tv heroes.

When? The closest ones I can think of to 6" Scale were the NECA 7" scale ones.

I think the AquaMamoa figures they've done so far are pretty decent sculpt-wise, but everything else has been rather disappointing
