Same figure with simple repaint... again, again and again.

Do you mean the mego of the man himself or the characters from his movies? The mego is weird but it's also just a con exclusive, the creatures however, especially from Pan's Labyrinth, are something I've wanted for years.

Trivial Psychic 06-01-2018 02:52 PM

It just dawned on me that the figure comes with 4 interchangeable heads....as opposed to four interchangeable masks. I'm guessing that means they are not removable?

That's another whammy...the mask on the rain sequence dream would look great on the Jason Lives figure, since it bears a more accurate shape to the wider mask of that film. You would just need to fill in the center chevron a bit to make it into a triangle. Yet, if it's not removable, it defeats the purpose.

The Mego of the man. Gimme figs of his creatures any day of the week.

Well, I'm massively disappointed. I had my heart set on a Roy, and we end up getting a Part 4 repaint (and they just re-released Ultimate Part 4 last month).

I'm hoping Roy is one of the 3 Friday releases scheduled for next year. Of course, if this Jason doesn't sell, they'll no doubt say there's no interest in Part 5, so why make a Roy?

Who am I kidding? They probably have no plans for Roy. The 3 new releases will end up being Ultimate Child Jason, Ultimate Bloody Part 2, and Ultimate Jason 3-D (a re-release of Part 3 with blurry red and green paint added).

I'm salty. :BlaBla

Yep, they confirmed on Facebook that it's four separate heads with non-removable masks. Makes sense, since you never see Dream Jason without his mask on in the movie.

And I really don't agree with you when you say that NECA are shiting all over the Friday the 13th license. Are you saying at the figures they've released so far, in addition to the accessory set, are somehow of low quality? Because I sure don't think so.

They said on Facebook that Roy is still a possibility, and that they definitely weren't saying no to him.

I will walk that statement back a little bit. They are s******* all over fans of the franchise.

NECA is a company that both delights and frustrates me in so many ways, that it has become a love/hate relationship. I love that we have Jason figures in 2018, but I am frustrated they continue to give us ones we don't need or want. The vast majority of us didn't want this. All this was was an excuse to repaint an older figure, and slap on a few new accessories that could and should have been included the first time with other releases. But hey...we get Chevy Chase Jason, so I guess we should be happy right?

Neca has had this license for close to a decade now, and they still have not given us an updated chapter 7, 8, 9, X, FvJ, Reboot or Roy (outside the Mego.) They have also not give us an updated Pamela or Child Jason (also outside the Mego.) Meanwhile, Freddy has an updated or ultimate version of nearly every one of his major looks (along with a few oddities) in both Mego and standard 7 inch forms. We have also received some oddities from out of left field like the Mego Hitch-Hiker to pack from TCM, SNDN, and freaking Paul Reiser figure (because people were just DYING for a Carter Burke I'm their collection.) Meanwhile, the rest of Jason's catalog remains in the back burner, unless it can be done for super cheap as a repaint.

After a while, you start to wonder what their level of commitment is to the franchise, especially when they remain murky when they give their reasons why, and often become confrontational when fans call them out on some of their shady responses.

As for Neca's quality...I won't dive into that rabbit hole too deep. It raises my blood pressure. They always look amazing, but all I'll say is that one shouldn't have to feel like they're excavating brittle dinosaur bones, nor using similar procedures when removing their figures from the packages.

I do want that Turtle set though...oh...but it's a very limited SDCC exclusive. Love/hate relationship. See what I mean? :p

kylactus 06-01-2018 06:31 PM

I agree with you somewhat triv, but you have to look at it from there point of view too, if they released one “definitive” version of Jason a year your looking at ten years tops and done. He ain’t exactly like Freddy with all the FX gimic potential. Once you have a perfect or “ultimate” say, part 3 Jason why would you ever buy another? And they won’t get nearly as much mileage out of a mold as say hasbro that’s sold us the same body 375 Times. So yeah I kind of roll my eyes a bit when the same figure gets ultimate treatment, or “video game” colors, but I totally get it. And once we all buy that same figures 5-7 variations they can justify make it a new mold.

And I’m happy with neca quality... except that god damn gorilla alien, it tipped over and the neck joint shattered like glass.

It would be nice if at least one of the masks was removable, but I definitely think they’re doing a great job with Friday the 13th. I mean, how can you complain? The figures cost $25, and you get so many accessories. They said there is 3 more ultimates coming in 2019. Plus part 2 and Dream Jason this year. As far as Roy, they did make him. That Mego version was pretty damn cool I thought. I think if you’ve been collecting NECA Jason figures for a while, you should probably be happy by now. They’ve made nearly every version. The only other companies currently producing F13th figures have been Mezco and Sideshow, and both companies made the same version, but the prices are at least triple what NECA charges.

Dolemite 06-01-2018 07:29 PM

I do see where Trivial Psychic is coming from now, although I certainly don't think NECA is shiting all over fans of the franchise. But that said, I do wish that they would increase their output of missing Jason figures and fill in a lot of the remaining blanks in the lineup. We've been waiting on a Part 7 in particular for a long time, and fans have really been requesting it non-stop.

However, Trivial points out that NECA has delivered Freddy in all of his signature looks, but he stopped short of noting that all of Freddy's looks are pretty much the same, and NECA can get away with re-using the same figure over and over with only minor alterations. In contrast, Jason's look as the series went on changed rather drastically from movie to movie, so NECA couldn't get away with utilizing the same sculpt over and over...they'd have to come up with 100% new sculpts for each figure, so I get why they're trying to get as much mileage as they can out of what they have. But with news that three more Ultimate Jasons are coming next year, I'm sure they'll finally start catching up and delivering us the Jasons we've been requesting. We shall see!

They made the “New Blood” Jason years ago...7” and 18” scale. Also a bust and a statue. So it’s not like they haven’t made it already. Manhattan, Goes to Hell, and Jason X are fhe ONLY Jasons not made by NECA in figure form. They’ll all come eventually, but I think the Dream version has cool accessories and well worth $25.
Also, eventhough the masks aren’t removable, you can swap the heads pretty easily between the different Jason figures.

As collectors, it's safe to say that many of us have "grails". I have a few of my own, figures that I have bought from various lines that are my definitive version, and will probably never need to pick up again unless someone REALLY hits it out of the park.

It's like this for a lot of folks with Jason. For many, part 7 is the definitive version of that character, and they let Neca know every chance they can on social media, only for Neca's to either ignore them, or turn around and say "wanna see something cool...here's another variation of part "x". The result of that, is that people go "ehh"...shrug their shoulders and walk away uninterested, causing the figure to underwhelm or flop. Enough of those flops happen, (or even one disastrous flop these days) and all of a sudden, there are no more Jason's figures period. I just want to finish my roster before that announcement comes someday.

It reminds me a lot of what Capcom has done over the years with Street Fighter. Yes, I get that Ryu is the main protagonist, but there are hundreds of characters, with over 16 in the original SSF2 alone. Yet, the same 5 of those characters get put out every time, the interest goes away, and before you know it, the line is gone without a lot of people getting their itch scratched, all because Capcom HAD to have another Ken in there instead of a Blanka or Fei Long.

I have the Mego Roy, and as a huge fan of the franchise who owns most or all that NECA has done this far, the first thing I thought was...damn..."I hope we get a regular 7" version." Then we get the hockey mask, and then the teaser after that...and...I'm thinking, "holy crap...we're really gonna get this," only to..SURPRISE!!!...another (mostly) repaint.

My problem is not the figure itself, it looks cool and who am I kidding, it'll probably be sitting on my shelf a week or two after it ships...my problem is the retread. I was really hoping for Roy, especially after the announcement over Sack-Head, a Jason I have wanted for some time. It really made me feel like we were going forward with the line and as a Friday fan, getting the same kind of love that NoES gets.

Freddy's burns and sweater patterns have varied as much as Jason's looks over the years, and NECA has done a really good job with the Freddy line, especially on the ultimate and Mego side of things. The accessories for Freddy are usually more detailed, varied and unique than Jason as well. Freddy came with those wicked Demon Dogs for example, while Jason just tends to get a few tiny new things to stab people (that said, I want a party horn and broken whiskey bottle accessory Neca!)

I'm hoping that we do see at least one more Ultimate Jason outside of this one and Sack Head during the next year. It would do a lot to restore my faith in the Neca, as the amount of retreads they have has this year across my favorite lines (Predator/Alien) has really caused me to stray away to pursue other thinga.

Don't be absolutely silly. That so-called "figure" is nothing but a statue with almost zero articulation and doesn't even remotely come close to comparing to NECA's modern stuff in terms of sculpt or paint work. It needs to be totally re-done from scratch.

I love the ultimates and all, but I love that we got him as a mego first. Makes him a little more unique. I guarantee you, if they ever do make Roy, customizers will be turning him into Ultimate Michael Myers lol

For me, Part 7 and Part 6 are kinda tied as my favorites, so I'm kinda placated at the moment that I at least have a sweet rendition of Part 6 to tide me over...for now. But yeah, I really want that Part 7, dammit!

Quote:

Yeah, but other than the head sculpt the overall design is almost exactly the same, to the point that NECA used the same exact base figure for their NOES 2 and 3 Freddy figures. They can't really get away with that with a new Jason.

Quote:

Holy shit, yes! lol.

I always thought the whiskey bottle kill in Part 6 (I assume that is what you're referring to) is one of the more underrated Jason kills...a neat concept that could have been so awesome if R-rated F13 movies in the 80's weren't censored almost to the level of G-rated kiddie flicks.

adcatalano 06-01-2018 09:25 PM

I’ve thought neca has treated Jason much better than Freddy, so I did some digging. Using their current types of products being released, here’s a breakdown:

Freddy:
Ultimate - 3 released / 0 upcoming
Retro Cloth - 6 released / 2 upcoming
Diorama - 1 released / 1 upcoming
1/4 - 3 released / 0 upcoming

Jason:
Ultimate - 3 released / 5 upcoming
Retro Cloth - 6 released / 0 upcoming
Diorama - 1 released / 0 upcoming
1/4 - 0 released / 1 upcoming

Turns out they are pretty comparable, but it seems going forward (based on what has been announced/teased) that Jason is getting more ultimates while Freddy is getting retro cloth releases. It all matters on your style preferences, but I don’t see how anyone can make a case that Jason isn’t getting enough premium figures and that Freddy is being treated definitively better

Whoa whoa whoa...hold on. Five upcoming Ultimates?

That seems a bit inflated. Not to be rude or elitist about it, but I'm gonna need some facts to that, or I'm gonna call that number as BS.

So far, the only Jason's upcoming that I've heard of is the 1/4 scale, Sack Head and Dream. That's two Ultimates and one large scale. Sources on where 5 came from?

cambo 06-01-2018 10:40 PM

Long time lerker, first time posting..I was so happy to see this part 5 is going to be a neca ultimate!! love the packaging design.Cant wait for this release to hit the collection

Yea, Jason's face under the mask looked different in every single movie, and it wasn't shown in part 5 anyway. I guess they could have used the part 4 face, but it makes sense to not show it.

Five upcoming Ultimate Jason's is actually correct. NECA has already released Ultimate versions of Part III, Part IV and Part VI.

As for upcoming releases NECA has already stated Part II and Part V Dream sequence are coming later this year in addition to three more yet to be revealed figures planned for next year (Randy Falk stated this himself on twitter), bringing the upcoming total to five. In short before the end of 2019 next year we should have about eight different Ultimate Jason's total barring any additional announcements/ reveals that come in the mean time.

I'm happy for this release, but I figured that the tease they showed us several weeks back would end up being a repainted figure with new heads or masks. But I know this will ultimately help NECA pay for new tooling for other Jason figures which are much different than the the sculpts we've received so far so I'll be patient.

Part VII is going to be a tooling nightmare trying to incorporate articulation into such a layered and decaying sculpt. My take is that we'll see it last because of how involved it is and on account of Randy saying many times that Part VII is one of his least favorite films. My fingers are crossed that one of the upcoming figures will be an Ultimate Part IX.

If I had to take a guess the I'd say the three upcoming Ultimate for next year are likely to be Part V Roy Jason, Part VIII Jason takes Manhattan and the Reboot Jason figure from 2009.

He's 100% right, Trivial. Five - count 'em, FIVE - upcoming Jason Ultimates (which has already been stated several times in this thread). So cool out, son. ;)

Getting VERY tired of Randy letting his personal feelings get in the way of business and giving the fans what they want. This is supposed to be NECA, not Randy's Playroom.

SpasticPlastic 06-02-2018 06:14 AM

Just because he doesn't like a movie, doesn't mean they won't get made. They've done a lot of figures from movies that he really dislikes. "Aliens 3", "Predators", "AVP", "AVPR", "Prometheus", "Aliens: Covenant"…just to name a few.

Fully agree! I think when people say this, it’s just a way of them expressing not getting what THEY wanted.
Also, someone mentioned that 0 1/4 scale Jason figures were made and 1 upcoming. That’s not true...They made “New Blood” “Freddy vs Jason” and the 2009 Remake in 1/4 scale. I love talking on here, but very few of you seem to have collected NECA for more than 2-3 years...at least NECA Jasons. Seems like people get mad that they are remaking versions to ultimates, yet you want them to remake the one you want...such as New Blood.
